Can someone give me a quick overview of the RoH happenings that were similar to this? Long story short. In June, people at a ROH show started finding flyers on their seats and a message on the bathroom mirrors that said PROJECT 161. Soon after that, cryptic messages began to pop up on a blog for something that at different times was called No Honor Society and Project 161. many people speculated that the 161 was ROH's Chicago show in Sept., the 161'st show. Mentions of 161 on the ROH board were quickly deleted, especially after pics of Gabe and his wife started to pop up on the 161 blog. Soon, more pictures began to pop up on the project161 site, featuring 2 boys (who many believed to be ROH tag champs the Briscoes), themes of war, and even a shot of the Lincoln asassination conspiurators being hung. These were followed by stories and musings on the blog that accompanied it. The show rolled around with the blog saying that Project 161 was called The Age Of The Fall and instructions for people to show up at the show in ski masks and black bandanas. Some actually did this, and after the Briscoes won their tag match, people rushed forward and the Briscoes were attacked by Necro Butcher, Jimmy Jacobs, and Tyler Black. They took out Jay, strung a bloodied Mark up by the belt hangers from the match, and Jacobs cut a promo while Mark bled like a stuck pig over him. Here is the footage. youtube.com/watch?v=L3MKZiDO0nI

Isnt Jericho just doing his book thing and nothing else? So it's perfect time for him to return right?

I don't think stretching it all the way to the rumble is a good idea. Doing this for another 4 months will eventually have people just going 'come on, we know it's Jericho, we've known for ages, hurry up and reveal him'.
No Mercy is too soon though. The commentators haven't even mentioned it yet so blowing it off a week from now wastes a ton of potential. Cyber Sunday isn't a big enough PPV for an angle such as this in my opinion. Survivor Series though, would be a perfect time span to play all the hints out. Build up an angle that has one team against the other, with one team seemingly needing to be 'saved' otherwise they will lose their jobs, the WWE will spontaneously combust, whatever. Then we can have Jericho/Jericho leading a new Hart Foundation/Jericho leading a new stable to come in as mystery entrants and save whichever team they bat for at the event.

This just screams Nine Inch Nails year zero I mean come on it is just that.. Yep, but it's pretty original in pro wrestling, and originality hasn't really been a part of WWE these past few years. There is Project 161, but this is on a much larger scale. Let's give credit where credit is due here. The only thing that's larger about it is that it's on a bigger show. AOTF took more time, built more suspense, and had more components to the mystery through different websites. And people were scratching their heads about it for months as to who it could be. WWE left so many clues to who it was that it took less than a day for people to break down all of the information. And if it ISN'T Jericho, then there's going to be a lot of pissed off people here.

I think Oct. 7th is not the debut date, but perhaps the next time we'll get more hints. Like a new video or something.
Also, these threads are so long, but has anyone noticed the bottom left corner of wwe.com??

It must be a returning superstar or I'll be pissed. It said in the video "I'm baaack" what else could that mean?

I was waiting for an Axe Body Spray commercial to be in front of that, just to break the idea that the site had been hacked or something.

Yeah, it's in that No Mercy article about Orton now. I love how this is going with the video and flyers and stuff, but I'm starting to think it's getting on the edge of overkill.

You'll have some midcarders thinking a higher power (not McMahon) is on the horizons and get all excited, almost in cult-like fashion. And then you have the pessimists, most likely Triple H, saying it's all crap and an internal war begins, with it taking place on all shows. I could easily see Stevie being the first guy to join up.

Unless you've spent the last 7 days obsessing over this, it's not overkill. For some kid who doesn't go on forums, finding all these hidden links is pretty damn awesome.

They've done nothing so far compared to the level of other internet viral campaigns. Yeah, I know. There have been worse, but I would like it if the same video wasn't linked in nearly every new article. Plus, it's more of a fear that it WILL become overkill, especially if it lasts until Cyber Sunday or Survivor Series.

Also, these threads are so long, but has anyone noticed the bottom left corner of wwe.com?? I love how it says save us 222 in clear, plain English, but they put it at the very bottom of the page where no one really bothers to look. And I haven't really bothered watching other videos on wwe.com, so this may be irrelevant. But it's funny how when watching this anywhere on the website, it skips over the sponsors' advertisements. "Your video selection will begin following a brief word from our sponsor." And then, nothing.

I think the initial plan for WWE was to probably drag out this whole Save_Us.222 ordeal as long as possible, and then reveal what or who exactly it is about. However, I think that its obviously Jericho, and the internet wrestling community realized that, so now WWE is just going to rush this thing and get it out of the way at No Mercy, rather than drag it out for months and months with people saying, "Okay, we get it. It's Jericho. Just get it over with."
Kind of like an opposite DX 2006. They dragged that out for a month longer than necessary, when it became crystal clear to everyone that DX was reuniting somewhere between WrestleMania 22 and Backlash.
