There may be a HUGE possibility that it was all scripted, can't it? Certainly it was, and I'm sure at the time they had designs on making the ECW product somewhat resemble the old one, but in retrospect it is hypocritical if you're going by that particular promo. Not saying there's anything wrong with staying on in WWE or anything, but if you're going by the storyline he's doing everything that he was against. Wrestlers contradict themselves all the time, especially on cases where a wrestler turns heel or face. I don't see where the complaint is really.

He's not a wrestler, or a "superstar" so why does he get to be hypocritical? It reminds me of Bill Hicks "suck satans cock" routine honestly. Fair enough, the guy has to make a living, but if you don't wanna do something, don't.

He wasn't a wrestler and this was a promo to start the rebirth of ECW a month or so after this, so if it had stayed along those lines of being the old ECW, than this promo wouldn't be contradictory to what he is actually doing.

Why should he have anyways? Despite being a wrestler, he is still a wrestling figure. IIRC, Jerry Lawler has wrestled in ECW a couple of times, yet talks how bad the company is. Why isn't he getting any heat for it?

"Maybe Joey Styles would feel more at home in a bingo hall kissing Paul Heyman's ass". You said it King! Styles is the worst commentator I've ever heard.

Pertaining to the context it was used in (that is, Joey berating WWE to go to "ECW"), that shoot was awesome.
I also liked how it felt, as in it was not unlike the employee anywhere who is mis-used and overlooked for too long, and that glorious time-span when he lets EVERYONE have it.

If ECW was anything slightly resembling the original, instead of smckdown light, the promo would have been more than appropriate. Unfortunately though......

I don't think it's fair at all to call Joey Styles a hypocrite, because this wasn't a shoot. It was worked shoot. Yes I am sure that a lot of it was based on his real feelings, but that speech had the full WWE stamp of approval on it because the original idea was to relaunch ECW as a "rebel" brand. If I recall correctly, Tazz quit Smackdown in a somewhat similar fashion. I forget exactly how he left, but I seem to remember him kinda telling Cole off or something.
So the fact that Styles is doing the exact same storytelling now in the new ECW should not be a testament to any hypocrisy on Styles part -- it is much more of a testament to WWE's failure to actually create something new and different like they originally wanted.

This was in no way a shoot. It was part of a storyline.

All I got from this video is: "I'm so glad the Spirit Squad have gone."

This was in no way a shoot. It was part of a storyline. You're right, but Styles the character ended up doing the things he was so vehemently against in this promo.

On another note, the fans in attendance come across as such idiots.
They cheer Styles' points about sports entertainment, you know, the stuff they've paid to see.
Then they boo him for pointing that fact out to him.
To all those who cheered at the declaration of "sports entertainment sucks"; I wonder how many cheered for Cena or Orton later on?

The only thing I get from this is "God, why can't the writing team script anything this provocative today?"

Well I for one loved the speech, because it mirrored what I was thinking at that time. I was sick of the semen jokes and male cheerleaders and the mocking god and what have you. Joey basically read my mind on camera.

I thought it was a pointless speech to give him, since ECW is presented as being virtually identical to everything else in the WWE.
