Im just wondering, what in your opinion, has been the most pointless feud that has led to a match on a pay-per-view event. One that comes up often is the Edge-Booker shampoo feud going into WrestleMania 18. I wont use that one though since its brought up so much.
Mine has to be the Gregory Helms-Jerry Lawler feud that led to the match at New Years Revolution '06. Basically, Helms had just dumped the Hurricane gimmick and was angry at Lawler because Lawler had made fun of the Hurricane during his commentary over the last year or so. So because of that Helms and Lawler enter into a feud. Even worse, Lawler WINS the match CLEAN. But seriously, if every wrestler feuded with an announcer because they said something negative about them, we'd have endless wrestler-announcer matches, and nobody wants that.
So post away your pointless feud/PPV matches.....

I think there was a match in 2004, Bob Holly vs. Mordecai.
Basically, all that happened was they had a fight backstage for no reason and it actually went to a PPV match.

Sad to say, but Brian Pillman vs. Dude Love from No Mercy 1997. It was SUPPOSED to happen, but why? I mean Pillman had Terri for a month, why not against Goldust for a third time?
As we know the match did not take place due to his death that day.

2 people have mentioned the Hardcore Holly vs. Mordecai match so far, the PPV was the 2004 Great American Bash.
And yes, their match was set up by cutting backstage on the Smackdown before the PPV to see them fighting for no specific reason.

I suppose the whole feud could've been based on beating up Hardcore Holly because he's, well, Hardcore Holly.
No other reason needed.

that shampoo feud must be a terrible one. As soon as I read the title of the thread, it immediately popped into my mind.

wasn't there a feud between Sylvian and Holly (when Sylvian was doing his model gimmick ) and it was worked on for weeks and the smackdown before..i think it was no mercy..and Kennedy just decided to punch Holly, before you knew it it was holly vs kennedy, that really was daft as it shoulda been Sylvian getting the ppv match with Holly
that musta destroyed the guys confidence to no end

The Kenzo Suzuki/Scotty 2 Hotty match at the same PPV happened for the same reason. No wonder it's considered one of the worst PPVs of all time.

I want to see 2 people - say, Cody Rhodes and Nunzio, walk into each other backstage and:
Cody Rhodes: "Wanna fight?" Nunzio: "Them's fightin' words."
And cue the ***** mat classic.

HBK-Orton's Judgment Day match, which was the genesis of Orton's Legend Killer II gimmick had an awful leadup.
The Raw prior to Judgment Day, HBK walks up to Orton in the locker room and says something along the lines of "I've got nothing to do Sunday night." and thus the match is created.
It's lead to a good fued between the two, but there was zero build or hype for two of the biggest names on Raw at the time.

The Kenzo Suzuki/Scotty 2 Hotty match at the same PPV happened for the same reason. No wonder it's considered one of the worst PPVs of all time. Actually, Kenzo fought Billy Gunn. If it had been Scotty, at least we might have gotten some credible bumping. Okay, I lie, ol' Kip can bump like a superball when he wants to. But that match was just lame as all hell. And Kenzo finishes with...wait for it...Christian's old Backbreaker setup move! Where he makes you think he's going to give him a reverse DDT but instead drops the man's head across his knee? Always seemed more like a neckbreaker to me, and this was the context in which Kenzo used it. But yeah, bad match. Inf act, that PPV was just the balls of all balls. Don't forget, it's where Torrie lost a divas match despite her shoulders being so far off the mat that the announcers had to mention the obvious botch by the referee (Charles Robinson).

The Kenzo Suzuki/Scotty 2 Hotty match at the same PPV happened for the same reason. No wonder it's considered one of the worst PPVs of all time. Don't forget about Luther Reigns vs Charlie Haas Reigns and Haas, as far as i can remember, were both fighting for Kurt Angle's affection. So, there was a backstory, just not a very good one. Also, I've said it before, but that Mickie pic in your sig is one of my favorites of all-time. YOWZA!
