From PWInsider.com If you can believe this (and I can't fathom who in the world would book this in 2007), this past weekend's Ohio Valley Wrestling TV featured a segment where Justin LaRouche was in full black face makeup mocking Charles "The Hammer" Evans (who is African American), with his face and arms painted black while wearing an afro. There were a ton of developmental guys shaking their heads at that one and it didn't get any reaction live. I've heard it was an Al Snow idea. Uh, public company folks? WTF?

Maybe next week, Col. DeBeers can run in and whip him with a chain or something.

I don't see how this is any different then DX making fun of the NOD.
Still probably not in the best of taste but I can understand the mindset and see how he figured this would be harmless.
Not the greatest idea ever but I don't see it on the list of TERRIBLY offensive.

Saying "African American" is just as racist as blackface.

Saw it and I don't remember the first thing really being mentioned about "blackness" or anything of the sort. The paint SEEMED just to be an attempt to make a white guy do the infamous impersonation bit, except his target was not white. If Hammer did a "lame white guy" impersonation and went to the extreme of painting his arms and face pasty white, it'd be pretty funny in making fun of LaRoche. The most "offensive" thing during the segment was aligning "The Hammer" with homosexuality since he was/is a drill sergeant in the army. Really? Did Cena not do the same thing every other feud in his own way?
The crowd went total silence for a good portion of the promo. They DID chant "We want Hammer" a lot during it though, to which LaRoche said, "I'm right here; don't worry."

WHo cares what Ox dressed up like... the real thing that's so messed up on that picture is the monstrosity sitting ringside behind him... in the Atlas T-shirt... dear god It wears makeup

Holy damn, that's kinda...wow. For the love of God, please tell me he didn't start scraming "Mammy, don't you love your sonny boy" over and over. I mean, if everyone backstage was cool with it, no harm no foul, but why take that risk in this day and age? What's the payoff, if any? Is it gonna get him more over as a heel since he did it?
As for the Billy Gunn pic, Z, thank you for the mental image. I will now, every time I see Gunn, er Kyp, or whatever on my TV, I will start loudly demanding Cadbury products.

Didn't we have a thread a while back of unlikely storylines and somebody mentioned a minstrel show being an unlikely one? Guess that one is off the list now.
