The Problem With WWE's Wellness PolicyMasters: Hey guys, look at me, I am off steroids now! WWE: LOL!!! Look at you, now you are skinny!!!! Orton: Hey guys, while recovering from an injury, I lost musclemass. WWE: LOL!!!! Look at you, now you are a pencil necked geek!!!! WWE.COM.....Chris Mordetsky has been suspended for substance use. WWE has no idea why this could possibly have happened. Remember when Triple H publically made fun of Chris Master's size on Raw? Then they wonder why these guys go back to getting bigger again.

To be fair, we don't know how exactly both men failed the Wellness Policy. It could just as easily be for using painkillers they don't have a prescription for, than anything steroid related.
I know that isn't sexy and everyone wants to go roids, roids, roids.....but failing a wellness test doesn't 100% equal roids, when Masters was sent to rehab it was for a painkiller addiction.

Remember when Triple H publically made fun of Chris Master's size on Raw? Then they wonder why these guys go back to getting bigger again. My thoughts exactly. While I've never been a big fan of Masters, I was honestly impressed that he made it back to RAW after slimming down and reworking his moveset to compliment that slimmer physique. Then HHH/Michaels bury him on national television. It not only sent the message that "bulk (even unnatural) = good", but also that "trying to do the right thing = bad". Stupid WWE.

I guess the D in DH Smith stands for Dumbass. Seriously, that's what Harry is for taking anything, especially after seeing how it helped KILL his father at a young age.

Amen, brutha. As long as Vince McMantard has a perpetual hardon for Batista-ish frames, and as long as guys are judged harshly for their cosmetic inadequacies, I'm afraid the problem is always going to be genocide. In the wake of the Chris Benoit tragedy, I applauded Vince for not only defending the industry, but having the courage to make some changes within the industry. Apparently, those changes aren't yet enough. And if he doesn't act fast, then he's only serving to offer the same media he faced and quietly conquered a heap of ammunition to the tune of "We told you so." At the risk of sounding like Phil Mushnik, WAKE UP, VINCE MCMAHON!! The answer isn't in the wellness policy itself. The answer is tossing out your delusional, antiquated 80's view of what a wrestler *should* look like and start paying closer attention to what your preformers need. Not for the future of your company. But for the future of the industry as a whole. You wanted to be the only game in town? Guess what. You win the prize. That, and everything else that comes with it, good and bad. How you chose to wave your flag in this hour may very well define the future of this industry.

Vince will never learn his lesson about steroids and musclemen.
More will die for sure and WWE will send more shills out onto news programs to make their excuses for the company.

I'm sure that you're right, HRH. That in and of itself may be the most troubling truth of all this mess.

What is Masters supposed to do? They packaged him and made money off him as the Masterpiece.

Agreed, I think McMahon has serious difficulty grasping that it's not 1986 anymore. These days, you don't need to be over 6" and really muscular to be taken seriously. Maybe it was like that in the mid-80's when Vince was expanding the WWF, but certainly not in 2007 when more information is known about steroids, and the amount of drug-related tragedies that have occurred in the business within the past few years. It's been proven with the rise of smaller wrestlers like Mysterio, Jericho, Benoit and Guerrero - as long as the particular wrestler has a way with connecting with the fans, they can get over. But Vince's backwards influence can be seen all over their television shows. They all seem so far behind the times, it's not even funny anymore.

I can not count the number of people that bitched when Mysterio got pushed that he was "to small" to be a world champion...
Vice likes big guys and has conditioned that but it's just as much fans fault. Even smarky fans who bitch about Vince's big man fetish turned around and bitched about Mysterio....
The same as the people who bitch they don't make new stars then when they do they bitch "no not that guy!" some people just like to bitch to bitch.
You can call Vince all the names in the world problem is, his company is the the only wrestling company that is extremely successful and profitable on a world wide level...so he must not be that stupid.

It's still a bad thing no matter what. Davey Boy had a big painkiller problem to go along with the steroids.

Sheesh, imagine if they had brought up the Hart Foundation 2.0 sooner than they did? Teddy gets fired and Harry gets suspended after a couple of weeks of them debuting

You can call Vince all the names in the world problem is, his company is the the only wrestling company that is extremely successful and profitable on a world wide level...so he must not be that stupid. Maybe the reason people complained about Mysterio's title run was because he was pretty much burried each week, and not given the chance to shine as a legitimate champion. And comparitively speaking, who could blame us? If Mark Henry comes out and destroys Rey every week, how is he supposed to build any credibility whatsoever? However that may be, that isn't the issue, is it? No. It isn't. The real issue is that there still exists a system where big, muscle-bound, juiced up tools (Batista) succeed and fly under the radar despite a wellness policy in place designed to protect him from doing harm to himself or others, while guys like Masters get publicly chastised on TV by the boss's son-in-law for getting caught in the wellness policy, and as a result, going to rehab, losing muscle mass in the process. Do you seriously not see anything wrong with that? Make no mistake. I'm not bitching for the sake of complaining. My complaint is legitimate and life-threatening. It is also industry threatening. All of this PR that the WWE has done in the wake of the Benoit tragedy will be for not if just *one* more current star dies on Vince's watch. If you don't see that, then perhaps I'm not the one with delusions as to how this whole thing will ultimately unfold. It is Vince's company, and yes, he can run it as he sees fit. He can run it right into the ground with his lack of foresight and inability to change with the times. Just like all of those other "old, dinosaur promoters" he put out of business years ago. What goes around comes around, they say. Except in this instance? If Vince goes down? So does the entire industry. Nobody will likely put or promote a televised wrestling card for some time to come when the WWE ship finally sinks because of this tragedy. Nobody will want to sponsor a man labeled a murderer, and rightly so. To that degree, Vince McMahon is very stupid. If he choses not to forego his antiquated ideas of what a wrestler *should* look like, he will most certainly lose his empire to his own pig headedness. And if that happens, then everyone suffers.

This is why something needs to be done, and it needs to be done NOW. The sheer amount of drug-related deaths in pro wrestling over the past ten years is absolutely ridiculous. If WWE are not careful, this generation's wrestlers will also go the same way and I simply do not want to see that happen to anyone else. Of course, it's bound to happen again, but what can we do about it? These men and women are working nearly every night. I firmly believe that some sort of Off-Season needs to be implemented within the next couple of years and random Drug Tests will have to become more regular. Also, the mental and physical health of everyone under contract will have to be monitored. If McMahon wants to survive, he'll do this. Because if we have something like another Benoit (I hope to God that there isn't), then WWE will struggle.
