What exactly is a run sheet? That was the first mention I've ever heard of the term. It is just a timetable, or is it a complete script?
My lack of smarkiness in this situation surprises me.

While the segment had its moments I was able to pause my DVD recording for 6:00+ minutes of nonsense in the midst.

I'm actually picturing this It may be fairly popular with younger fans as Hornswoggle does have charisma and Khali's size alone draws attention. Only if thier Entrance music is Two lost souls www.youtube.com/watch?v=lNccTAxNgOABut Khali and Hornswaggle singing it I would soo mark for this but where do you add the pyros?

There was a time when kayfabe was like law in and out of the ring.
I remember a Wrestlecrap induction about a WWF music video in which the faces and the heels sang apart.

Verne Gagne is rolling in his grave because of the death of kayfabe I'm surprised Flair didn't run into the ring foaming at the mouth. Arn Anderson isn't allowed to watch in fear of his head exploding.

Wait...how are fans supposed to think the show is run?
That there is no order and people just randomly go out to the ring? Then how could announcers say "Hey! This isn't his time! Why is he interrupting?!"
There would have to be SOME order to the show. How else would people know when their matches were? "Um, I'll have some coffee and...is that my frickin music?!"
The only thing I saw/heard that "Exposes" the business was HHH's crack about how Michaels has his run sheet in order to remember his lines and even THAT is pushing it.

Question about this segment... Does anyone else think Khali may be turning face soon? He came out to "join DX", brain chops The Coach, and has a match scheduled against Hornswoggle. Does anyone else think that this is leading to a Hornswoggle/Khali big buddy and little buddy comedic attraction team?

I loved this segment. I mark for the corny, lame DX over the old incarnations.

It was funny indeed, but it's a stupid move nonetheless. We know it's scripted, the vast majority of fans know it's scripted, Superstars are portrayed as "performers" by WWE etc BUT having your "actors" referring to a script while ON AIR is dumb and counterproductive. Especially if we have to believe the same guys are gonna "putting their career on the line" in another segment later in the night, or at the next PPV. HHH and HBK crackes jokes about a script, about who writes "such crap", about past storylines... how can we buy into the fierce rivalry against Umaga and Orton just an hour later? Kayfabe being "dead" is one thing, exposing its corpse while still pretending she's alive (a la "weekend at Barney's") it's bad business. Just imagine watching SAW XVI and have Jigsaw saying "wow, these traps are sick! who came up with such ideas?" before moving on with the normal flow of the action... It's Weekend at Bernie's not Weekend at Barney's.

Great beginning for Raw in a long while. I'm glad I didn't have to work that day.

I agree with the statement that someone has to plan the show, if people were allowed to come out during any match and ruin it or come out late and miss thier cues or mess up thier lines because they weren't scripted....
Well they'd watch TNA.

In my business we call them run-downs...but it is the same thing.
Not only do you have to plan. or stack, the show to keep the flow and let people know what to do and when to do it...but it is also for advertising. When someone buys an add on a show, often times they are buying the ad for a specific time during the show. Ads placed during a "down quarter-hour" are cheaper than an ad placed during a rating peak.
For example...if the second 15 minutes of a show are typically lower rated than say...the over-run...the ads that run during that second 15 minutes will not be as expensive. Why do you think they ALWAYS run a commerical break just before the overrun? It is because advertisers pay BIG money to be a part of that last block of show.
A run sheet helps to keep the show running on time, so the ads run when they are supposed to run...which keeps advertisers happy...which keeps the money coming in.
As a side note...having to so carefully time a show is also the reason why it is so tough to put a show on when there are last minute changes...like a wrestler killing his family the night before a RAW. Even 24 hours is not enough lead-time to properly redo and re-time a complete 2 hours of TV.

The only thing I saw/heard that "Exposes" the business was HHH's crack about how Michaels has his run sheet in order to remember his lines and even THAT is pushing it. Sure fans "know" there's an order, and a strict one, to the show. BUT, acknowledging that on-air, and having your "actors" referring to the script during their performance is lame IMO Metatheater and pro-wrestling don't click too well... especially because, to an extent, kayfabe is still there. Weren't we mad at the Jackass guy for laughing during the match against Umaga? That's more or less the same issue: breaking the flow and the "reality" of the show. What's next? HHH hits the pedigree on HBK, Shawn stands up a la Ultimate Warrior and says "oh man, you're getting old! it's not as painful as it used to be..."?
