In short, who do you think has been the best heel of WWE in this current (from 2002 onward) era, and why?

Triple H, without a shadow of a doubt.

Edge started off on the brand split weak as the ignorable face, but once he hit Rated R superstar mode. He's brought out the best in Cena and Matt Hardy... plus really heel Edge is always the best.

Edge leaves everyone else in the dust. HHH's best work was from 99-00 IMO.
Cena is probably second for me.

Edge, for the simple fact that he bumped up the ratings in a time when ratings were on a slow decline.

Edge for me as well. He comes off as a real threat and has had to earn his spot so he carries himself like a maineventer.

JBL. He was much more hated than Edge. Even the internet hated JBL and while he was often accused of "Xpac heat" people sure couldn't seem to stop talking about how much they hated him and arenas were full of anti-JBL crowd signs.
Edge is really more of a T-shirt selling semi-face.

Edge is really more of a T-shirt selling semi-face. Huh? I mean not disputing your JBL love, that's your opinion, but Edge has pissed off a lot of people (including me) with his heel stuff. You can't tell me Edge is a semi-face when you had the entire arena booing him when he nabbed Taker and Cena's titles. At worst Edge MAY have the "cool heel" thing going, but he always eems to be able to turn the crowd to hating him.

What I'm saying is, Edge has the crowd against him but is one of the most popular wrestlers on the internet. JBL has the crowd heat and the 'net heat, which puts him above IMO.

Eh I don't think the internet loves him as much as you may think. He's got a devoted net following, but so do JBL, Orton, and hell even Khali. It's not REALLY fair to include the IWC as we tend to like heels more anyway.

That's true. I actually sort of doubted my own argument after posting because I remembered the whole Matt Hardy incident. Edge certainly has been whined about on the internet (that's not a shot at Hardy by the way).

Of the options definitely Edge. Although I am surprised that Hollywood Rock was not on there. He wins for this alone: www.youtube.com/watch?v=8G8u1ErQTO0And what about HBKs all too brief heel turn for the Hogan feud: www.youtube.com/watch?v=buPuPzJJtU8Yet both HBK and the Rock's heel runs post the brand split were sadly brief, so Edge probably gets the still gets the nod.

Edge in the long run, JBL is pretty much a close second. I thought Edge and Cena brought the best out of each other, it was a pretty good feud.

Around the brand split people were just getting bored with HHH, so I'm going to have to give it to Edge- I love how he avoids smoothness and just focuses on being obnoxious and grating.
JBL and Hollywood Rock are tied for very close seconds because while they were great villains, they would still make me chuckle from time to time. Edge just makes you want to see him get pummeled.
EDIT: And face Rock is still better anyway, regardless of the general consensus.

Edge has been better for longer, but Brock as a heel was a revelation for me.

I find it mind-boggling that Edge is ahead by as much as he is. I voted for JBL, mostly because I tuned into SmackDown a great deal while he was champion, silently hoping for his defeat. He was great because he was like McMahon who could actually wrestle and sometimes back up his promos with title defenses. I didn't see RAW much during the zenith of Edge's heel run.
So, Crappers, what makes Edge the best heel of this era?

Well, long term heel, it'd definately be Edge.
But I'd count HBK's little heel run for Summerslam.
