Well, what if you got to meet IRS and said "Nice to meet you Mr. Rotunda." Would that be disrespectful, i mean he did go by his real name for a few years.

That's OK cause most of his career he used that name. You wouldn't call Sting "Mr. Borden" or Hulk Hogan "Terry". It's total disrespect. Hollywood actors and musicians change their names all the time once the get into movies. But you would still call Bono "Bono" and not Paul if you met him or Christopher Walken "Ronald".

Ok, back to IRS/Rotunda. What if you referred to him as "Michael Wall Street." Disrespectful, or should he be grateful that somebody knows something about the end of his career?

I dunno. I'd hate to call Undertaker by his ring name. "Hey, Undertaker, I'm a big fan." I'd prefer to call him Mr. Calaway. And he'd prefer to punch you directly in the face. He's bled, sweat, broken bones and torn muscles to be called "the Undertaker." If you call him anything but, that's like saying "yeah, I don't respect you and what you've done enough to call you that." Basically, my rule is "never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever call a wrestler anything other than his ring name." It's just respect. I hate when people refer to wrestlers by their real names. Not only is it disrespectful, it's just plain markish. Someone on here put it brilliantly once; it's like a doctor. They bust their asses to earn the title of "Doctor," and that's what they want to be called. Yeah but I still think it sucked that my father used to make me call him Dr Dad. I don't care how hard he worked.

I remember Lance Storm said that he didn't like it when fans called him by his real name because using his real name suggests that you know him personally and most fans of course don't.

It would probably be best to call wrestlers by the name that they're currently using or last used on TV. Especially refrain from using any past Wrestlecrap names like Sparky Plugg, GI Bro, or The Ringmaster.

Unless their ring name is their real name, no. Beat me to it. I'd guess Bret Hart would like to be referred to by his real name instead of "Hitman". But, it's completely opposite with guys like Taker.

But, it's completely opposite with guys like Taker. I'd still think nicknames would be fine. I don't think Flair would mind being called "The Nature Boy" or Bret "The Hitman" since that's part of their ring names. Just don't call Vader "a fat piece of $***" just because he once referred to himself as one on TV. That argument probably isn't going to help you while he's stomping your guts in.

I agree. We don't know any of these people personally so there's no reason why we should feel compelled to call them by their real names. I wouldn't dare call Taker by his real name, or anyone else for that matter. It's just disrespectful IMO. Hell, a dude I knew for 10 damn years became a wrestler, and even I call him by his ring name.

Unless their ring name is their real name, no. If it's their real name, it's not really a ring name then, is it? Don't split hairs. You call them what their character's name is, period.

You wouldn't call Sting "Mr. Borden" or Hulk Hogan "Terry". It's total disrespect. On a Robot Chicken commentary track, one of the guys talk about when Hogan came in to record. Even though he basically said "Hi, I'm Terry", they didn't call him anything other than Hogan.

Whether it's the 'correct' thing to do or not, I personally would still feel strange calling him "Undertaker", you know?

Can I go to a TNA taping and ask road agent Paul Taylor III for an autograph? Do I have the right to get pissy if he doesen't sign it as the Red Rooster? Can I refer to Jerome Young by his real name?

Unless you know them outside of the ring such as a friend it is rude to call them by their giving name
