Okay... this may be offensive and this may piss a lot of people off but I'm about to go on a rant here. I tuned into a couple minutes of WWE tonight and watched wrestling for probably the first time in a year or two. For some background, I was a huge wrestling fan during the boom period because of how edgy, engrossing and creative the WWF and ECW products were. I still try to follow wrestling through the internet and shoot interviews. However I turned on Raw tonight and was treated to an entire propaganda filled segment featuring Chris Jericho in Iraq. I thought it was funny that there was a Canadian wrestler running around orally fellating the United States military. And that was the entire segment, just Jericho running around talking about how great the military is. Then a commercial break about the Summerslam PPV and a whole bunch of products. Then an entire segment of a reindeer droppingsty DX entrance with the commentators busy fellating the military and the substance of DX on the mic doing a half-assed job fellating the military. Then Umaga and Kennedy came out to face DX... gee I wonder who was going to win that match. As soon as I heard Kennedy's music I changed the channel. I mean the music smurfing sucks in the WWE now between the Raw theme and Kennedys entrance I was struggling to continue watching as long as I did. Where the hell did the interesting bad ass wrestling show with the cool music and over the top in your face personalities go? Why has been replaced with this ultra-nationalistic untalented boring generic consumer-inducing trash? Man... WWE is horrible. You guys are going to go ape-reindeer droppings on me saying I'm not a wrestling fan or support troops or some other incoherent non-sense but my god this product has dropped through the basement.
End Rant.

You picked the wrong night to start watching again. The "Tribute to the Troops" show is not usually a good gauge of where they are.
I'm not saying WWE is perfect - far from it - but yeah ... bad timing.

Indeed. I intentionally didn't watch RAW tonight, both for personal reasons(which I will not discuss) and because, wrestling wise, both in-ring wise and storyline progression wise, the shows are very skippable.

Nevermind I misread it. My bad man. Yeah the DX match sucked because the outcome was obvious.

The Tribute to the Troops specials are a yearly thing that WWE does around this time of year. It is a special show to treat the troops stationed in the Middle East and has no bearing on the current state of the product whatsoever. ECW and Smackdown are doing Best Of shows this week, too, so it's pretty much a skippable week for WWE programming.
Watch RAW next week and you'll get a better idea.

I watched tonight and I've watched every one they've done. As a vet I appreciate what they do each year. Unless you've served you just can't understand what it's like to decide to take that oath. And I support anyone who supports my Brothers and sisters who serve. It has nothing to do with the war or the current administration whom I oppose as strongly as I support those young men and women who serve. I'm willing to give up one night of wrestling a year so they can forget where they are for a few hours.

I usually enjoy the Tribute shows. They're a nice change of pace. I wouldn't necessarily say that people were "fellating" the troops since it is a TRIBUTE show after all.

And btw, Jericho was born in the United States...thus making him an American, so I see no problem with him supporting and giving thanks to American troops....and really, I've wouldn't have a problem with it even if he was Canadian...

Exactly. And Im sure there was some troops from other countries too. Why else would they be flying flags like Denmark, England, Germany etc. Above the entrance?

These people are braver than hell, and deserve to have something to take them away from the situation they are in for a while. And WWE shills their stuff all the time, so that's nothing new. Jillian has a freaking album on iTunes for Christ sake. The tribute shows usually have predictable matches, just for the troops' enjoyment. I felt nothing wrong with Jericho talking about the troops and the Military/Army like he was. It was a TRIBUTE show after all. And what's him being Canadian have to do with anything? He lives in the USA now, right? What's wrong with him supporting the place where he lives now? And BTW, I like your sig

I think Tribute to the Troops is a noble cause, but it's essentially a glorified house show. I don't usually expect much from it in the way of "cutting edge" WWE programming.

I felt that the propaganda was pretty sickening.
I think that the WWE did a good job putting on a show for the troops.

So, you tuned in and happened to find a Tribute show and then got disgusted because the people the show were being Tributed to were being complemented, on the Tribute show. Got it.

Tribute shows are never good. As for the rest of the year it's like a rollercoaster. Some weeks it's good...some weeks it flat out sucks.
I blame it on the boring storylines & shoving the wrong people down our throats (Ken Kennedy) being at the top of the list.
