ROH is holding a PPV October 5th right by a place I pass everyday going to work. I've talked to some friends, and we're gonna try to go see it.
But I can't figure out why. I don't get what ROH is all about. I've posted something like this before, but let's make this current. What about the ROH product should hook me?
Reading this "Project 161" thing makes me semi-interested in ROH. I like the whole hanging guys upsidedown thing, but I don't like the emo stable. Or the thing where theres like 7 stables for the entire fed. It's been played out before...the time for stables is over, unless you have an elite Horseman like group.
Anywho, reading the rosters of these stables, I grow even more disinterested. Who the f*** are half these guys? And where did they come up with these dumb roster names? Like I said in another post, they all seem really emo. Some people like it, but I think it's dumb and pointless.
Plus, how can you tell all the talent apart? When they all use their real names and don't use stage monikers, it bores me. I like creative names for guys. Like Cactus Jack and Vader. How am I supposed to get behind a BJ Whitamer or a Jimmy Jacobs when he sounds just as generic as the guy he's facing? What gives each of these guys the presence of being "better than the rest" and being a true star. I think each wrestler should be unique and try to stand out to the crowd to try to outshine everyone else in the roster in at least one way, and a name is a big part of that. Again, why should I care for someone named BJ Whitamer or Claudio Castaravoli or whatever? Coming in new, these guys have no face value to me. This is where the Briscoes and Delirious stand out to me though, because they have unique looks.
After bashing the company everyone holds so damn dearly, please, try to get me into it, using current events and matches with people on the roster now. I'm sure ROH was good when Punk and Raven and Joe and AJ and Daniels were on it, but don't show me those. I wanna see stuff from now. I want to get behind it. It's like me and Linux, I always wanted to get into it to stray from Windows, but its not until I actually tried it I fell in love.

No offense, but reading this post, it already sounds like your mind's made up on the product as it stands.

I don't know if any thing that anyone says would get you into it, since you put it like that.
As for the groups, I don't mind it as much, as ROH had many stables at one time before, but it seems people have forgotten about 03-04.

It sounds like you've already flat out decided to dislike it. and if you can't tell BJ Whitmer and Jimmy Jacobs apart, you've obviously never watched a show, so why should we bother? You've already made up your mind.
EDIT: And stables are not played out. They will always have a place in wrestling, and ROH is completely revamping the concept.

Best wrestling matches you'll see in America. The storylines aren't the worst, but watch it mostly for the action. I was skeptical last year but now I own almost all of the first two years of the promotion on DVD.

Tickets for ROH are not expensive. Just go and if you you don't like it, don't go to any more. If you do like it, then you will want to go more.
No disrespect, but I tend to agree with the posters above me that you already have your mind made up. My advice is seriously just go to it and see if you like it. Worst case scenario: if you absolutely hate it, you will just be down 20 dollars and will have wasted about 3 hours.

Do you like wrestling?
I assume so, or else you wouldn't post on a wrestling board.
So, if you like wrestling, you should go to a wrestling show.

yeah, I say just buy some GA(General Admission) tickets, which are usually pretty cheap. If you like it, or at least don't hate it, then ask us in the DVD thread, where a few(actually now its getting close to a dozen) of us will help you buy some of the better DVDs.
And just because the guys don't have stupid stage names doesn't mean that they're all generic. You brought up Claudio and Whitmer. BJ Whitmer is a brawler, who now is sporting a bleach-blonde crew-cut. Claudio is a legit Swiss wrestler, who uses a European style of stiff uppercuts and joint-locks, and his gimmick is that he is a Rich Swiss guy(or, in his words, THE MOST MONEY MAKING MAN!). They're worlds apart, both in and out of the ring. Thats like saying there are no differences between John Cena, Bobby Lashley and Chavo Guerrerro because they don't have stupid stage names.

To elaborate: ROH isn't for everyone, and it really sounds like it's not for you based on your post. The uniqueness of the wrestlers comes out in the ring based on how they wrestle and on the feuds they're in. If you want characters and crazy personalities and favor that in a promotion, ROH probably isn't for you. I'd suggest checking out CHIKARA. They have a show in Philly (which is a bit of a drive, I realize) this Saturday (which will be my first CHIKARA show. Can't wait!).

Everyone's pretty much already voiced the same opinion I would: you're already determined to dislike it, so why bother. But hey, if you go with an open mind, you may just enjoy yourself. You're going to see some really good wrestling while you're there, which, if you're a wrestling fan, can't be a bad thing. EDIT: And I was just about to make a Chikara reference...but Spankypac beat me to it! lol

But whatever - I get to see the Kings of Wrestling demolish some goats.

Yeah, I got probably the best tickets available (front row, right side of the isle) for just fifty bucks. I'm actually going to the same show you're considering and went last time they came around as well. The general admission at that place is pretty damn sweet. For fifteen dollars you get bleacher seats only about ten or fifteen feet from the ring. I only got front row tickets this time because they were available at the last show I went to and, in my opinion, at RoH shows if you can't get front row seats there's no point in getting anything but general admission.

ROH currently has the best tag team in US wrestling right now (sorry MCMG) in the Briscoes. The best wrestler in the US (possibly the world) in Bryan Danielson. They have a strong relationship with Dragon Gate and NOAH so you get some great ROH vs. Japanese matches. The best stable in the world; Sweet and Sour Inc. And the Necro Butcher just rejoined the roster. How could you not want to start watching ROH.
Oh yeah, if you really want to get into ROH watch the shows from the ROH/CZW feud from last year.

I've got general admission to the Dayton show in November. I'm pretty psuched about it! Yea, that really has nothing to do with this thread, but I just wanted to mention it.
