Well, in comic book land the Joker and Goblin come along and they realize they never should have been fighting in the first place.

And with their guards down, Wade Wilson will sneak up behind them and shank them through their hearts. Spidey-sense be damned.

Spider-Man.
He, along with the Fantastic Four, saved comicdom in the early 60's.
Making superheroes HUMAN, actually having a person under the mask, was a big step, and it eventually led to more serious topics being covered in comic books, and moving away from the cookie cutter I HAVE POWERS AND I DO NICE THINGS BECAUSE I SAID SO aspect of it all.

Yes, but he needs more variety than all of them being are doctor or scientist at one point in their lives. Batman fights flat out crazies from all walks of life. Scorpion, Kangaroo, Kraven, Venom, Carnage, Shocker, Rhino, Hobgoblin, Mysterio...yeah all doctors or scientists. Or none are. If the kids pick Bats as their favorite, that is fine and well. If they think he beats Spidey in a fight, they are insane. But some of them were science experiments (Scorpion, Sandman and Rhino) or came to Earth due to science (Venom and Carnage). But I know what you'r saying.

But you can apply it to every villain and hero ever then pretty much. Nah, most of Batman's villains are just crazy people. I mean, what is scientific about the Joker? Riddler? Scarecrow(original)? Penguin? Granted Man-Bat, ClayFace and the other non-human-type villains were created by science and the likes of Mr. Freeze and FireFly created their powers through science, but still Batman had a lot of villains that were just humans tipped over the edge. Even Two Face belongs with the crazed humans cause all that happened to him was acid was spilled on half of his face, it didn't give him powers or anything, just a physical manifestation of his inner two sides.

Spider-Man.
edit: I see that a reason is requested. In the movies I like Batman more than Spider-Man, although that has a lot more to do with Christopher Nolan and Christian Bale than the fact that it's Batman, but Spidey has always interested me more in the comics. I give him an edge more because of the humor of the character and that he always seems closer to being just a regular person. Also, I think he has the advantage that none of his villains have ever been more interesting than him to me, whereas Batman usually falls behind The Joker, and some other characters now and then.

Um, dude, Joker's original, well one of them, Robbing a chemical plant, falls in to a chemical, face is messed up screws up his brain. That is science.
Wasn't Riddler a Scientist in his previous life, or a Doctor or some such.
Any of them who use gadgets(penguin's umbrellas, Batman's belt, whatever).
Seriously, everything comes back to science is what I am saying.

I'm gonna go with...god, this is tough. Both great characters, brilliant villians, both have had some....regretable moments(50's and 60's Batman, Clone Saga Spidey and Iron Spider), but for me, the edge goes to the man from Gotham City. JUST barely edges out Spidey in the cool factor.

Oh I just noticed I was supposed to give a reason earlier. Well... I really don't have one. Two of my all time favorite characters here and I had to pick one. I went with Batman because I love the complete dedication he has to what he does. He's willing to sacrafice ANY symblance of a normal life in the hopes of finishing a cause that deep down he knows will never happen, the ending of crime.

Hey, when I found out Way was doing away with Bob, I got a little emotional and haven't recovered.... I never justified for Spidey either. I voted for him because, well, his is a bit of the every man style hero, the one I can related to(in spades generally). And the Stan Lee run is pretty much unparalleled in comics for relatability.
