Art Monk only went to three Pro Bowls (and this was before they were voted on by fans and turned into a popularity contest or an excuse to put crappy player on your team to a trip to Hawaii....looking at you Roy Williams), only led in any statistical category once in his career and is basically an instance of a guy being above average for an extended period of time. On top of it all, he was never the top performer on his team and never truly had any defining moments in his career that would propel someone to the HOF, like a Lynn Swann (whose career was shorter, but compares favorably to Monk).
I hear he's a great guy and has nice statistics, but I don't think you let a guy in because he hung around for an extremely long time at a consistently above average performance level.

I'd like to see Paul Tagliabue, Cris Carter, Gary Zimmerman and, Ray Guy get in this year. The HOF Voters seem really down on Tags, for whatever reason. It's kind of surprising, but if you read a few voters news articles about the process, a number have alluded to a very vocal group who have effectively stone walled him last year and seem likely to do it again this year. Interesting, to say the least, as the league grew leaps and bounds under his watch.

The growth the league had under him and expansion to a more global game would seem to be the kind of thing that would warrant a spot in there.

This whole announcement=fail if Derrick Thomas gets snubbed. I have a feeling Derrick Thomas has too many strikes against him to get in. 1) The "Monday Night Meltdown" he had against the Broncos 2) The Bills made him a non-factor in the only championship game he played in. 3) Bob Gretz is the KC "delegate" for the Football HOF. In addition to being Carl Petersen's lackey (allegedly), Gretz has already pissed off some of the heavy hitters in that group (namely Peter King and Dr. Z) and I think that they will stonewall anything that Gretz tries to present. 4) Character issues. All the illegitimate kids that DT had in his lifetime. I'd love to see him get in, but I'm not going to get my hopes up.

Did Chris Carter run over someone's puppy? Give me a break. The media's been screwing up all sports hall of fames. They should come up with some other way of voting or something.

Chris Carter getting snubbed really did surprise me. But you know what? Those that did get elected....they deserved it. Zimmerman was a GREAT offensive lineman, good for him. Fred Dean and Tippett getting in surprised me too, but so was the Roger Wherli election from last year. They deserve it. But as a long time Art Monk pimp, its about time. Way to go dude. P.S. - Hey, Michael Irvin had to wait 3 years. Carter is in next year.

With Monk now in, who becomes the cause of the media, Carter, Guy or someone else?

Yes, the Pro Football HOF should be like Baseball. Not what I said, read my post again.
