After hearing so much about Crash being overrated and being simply about racism I was suprised about how much deeper the movie went and how much I enjoyed it.
To me..it was just as much or more about every human being having a really good and really bad aspect to their natures; that if you show each of us at our best moment we're all a hero..and at our worst we are all a villian.
I don't get the "OMG ITS ABOUT RACISM WE GET IT ALREADY" criticism after seeing it.

Just saw SAHARA a few days ago. I expected to greatly dislike it.
I quite liked it. A lot.

I really had no big expectations going into V For Vendetta. But by the end, it became my favorite movie, doing the impossible. The Boondock Saints was my favorite movie before I saw V.

I was surprised by how completely I hated the Lord of the Rings trilogy.
The first one I went into on opening day with all my friends. I just remember sitting at the diner afterwards feeling numb as they all talked about it. I'd go into more detail on my reasons as I have in the past, but what's the point?

Here's where I destroy whatever "cool guy" cred I've ever built up on this board:
When I walked in with a couple of friends to see Enchanted, I was expecting your typical stupid modern Disney movie, but honestly, for what it was, it wasn't bad. Very enjoyable movie. Plus that, Amy Adams is just plain hot.

I'm disappointed to say this.... but "Good Luck Chuck" was actually way better than I thought it would be. Of course, I thought it'd be unbearable... so "slightly entertaining" is leaps and bounds what I was expecting.
I honestly think the only reason I did enjoy it though, was the fact that I thought the premise was Jessica Alba being extremely accident-prone, and Dane Cook's character putting up with it. Turns out, that wasn't the actual story... plus, I hated "Employee Of The Month" because Dane Cook was playing a cool, calm, collected guy where everything went his way. In this movie, he was the spastic, crazy guy he does during his standup so it just seemed more natural.
And to maintain some shred of credibility.. I still hated it, because I'm supposed to hate it.. .because it's cool to hate all things Dane Cook.

I didnt hate SAW 3, but I really didnt like it. I was so ready to see it and stuff. I mean SAW was awesome and SAW 2 just built on that so by the time the SAW 3 trailers started I was on the sites for updates everyday and thought it was gonna be great, but it was just kinda meh. They traded Jigsaw wondering if he really was a murderer for brain surgery...

KINGPIN: Back in the day, somebody recommended this movie to me. When I asked them what it was about, and they told me that it's about a guy with one hand who's training an Amish guy how to bowl, I thought that it sounded EXTREMELY dumb and didn't want to see it. But I did watch it - it's funnier than hell, you laugh your ass off, but it's about so much more than that - morality, friendship, redemption - it's VERY deep for a supposed screwball comedy.
WITNESS: Just saw this movie for the first time about a year ago, rented it when I was on my renting binge at Hollywood Video. I thought it was going to be just another action movie time passer, but for some reason this flick just really resonated with me. Really enjoyed Harrison Ford's performance and the ending.
WILD WILD WEST: The most disappointed I'd ever been in a movie theater. I had loved "Men in Black," and thought that another movie with the same director and star would be action-comedy gold. Man, was I wrong. Absolute turd on all levels.
EDIT: Man, what are the odds? Two movies that exceeded my expectations both involve Amish people, lol.

I went to Cloverfield, I WANTED TO LIKE Cloverfield, but I just couldnt, very disappointed in it.
Also I noticed several people mention V for Vendetta. I actually went to this movie knowing very very very little about it, it has now become on of my favorites, so, I guess that could be listed as surprisingly liked.

"The Marine" with John Cena.I just knew for sure that I would hate it.As it turned out,it wasn't half bad. Yeah, it was better than I thought it would be. Of course I just watched it for the mindless action. Same with The Condemned. I heard so many good things about Napoleon Dynamite, so I watched it one day. Oh god, I thought it was just ... blah. It went nowhere fast and stayed there. I watched the movie Sideways with friends expecting to hate it with a passion. It was actually a decent flick. Films that people love that I seem to hate are Kingpin and Dumb and Dumber. I just failed to see the humor in it all.

Oh, also, for some mysterious reason I hated "Gangs of New York" and Daniel Day-king of overacting-Lewis. But everybody else seems to think it's the cinematic equivalent of Jesus.

The Good Shepard. From the previews it look like a good spy thriller. By god the movie was so boring. Nothing exciting happens. There is only one exciting part and that is when Jolie and Damon have sex and it was only three minutes long.

Yeah, that was a loser...and considering the subject material, you could make a compelling cinematic history of the CIA's birth, and their crazyness they orchestrated in the 50s. Worse, the Damon/Jolie angle is so boring and a waste of time. Household melodrama (you aren't ever HOOOOOME!) and that whole "you knocked her up, marry!" angle was just goofy. Robert DeNiro is a great actor, arguably the greatest ever....but keep him away from a camera. Please.
