Yeah, I'm being hypocritical here. I preach of how I don't hold expectations when seeing films, since I argue that a movie usually, in spite of cast/crew pedigree, has a solid chance of both failure and passage.
That said, in this Hollywood epoch where trailers practically spoil the movie whole, since it reaffirms people that they'll get what they're being promised*, my gut instincts usually is on-spot whatever a movie will be good or bad from such glorified edited film clips.
BUT...what movies have you surprisingly liked or disliked despite your expectations (or umm, my knee-jerk thought)?
My next review is a good example, where faint hope that a franchise could return to its roots is not rewarded, but overwhelmed, and a star that had the promising goods is allowed to f***ing cash the check. A pleasant surprise, in other words.
Yet, what of you folks?

I was once dragged to Sky High, kicking and screaming.
I came out and said "Damn....That was actually good."
Although a kid's movie, I highly recommend it.

The most recent one I can think of was I Am Legend. I went into this movie pretty much for The Dark Knight preview and thought this was just going to be another zombie movie but Will Smith puts on a great performance and although the last half doesn't live up to the first part, it was still much better then I thought it would be.

I was expecting to hate the hell out of Stealth. The commercials just screamed lame to me. My wife made me watch it last week.
I liked it.

Everybody hated Blair Witch 2. I don't blame them, because it was a weak movie.
I, however, love the hell out of it. Not because I actually like the movie itself. I don't even remember hardly a damned thing about it. No, I liked it because the makers of the movie knew it would suck and turned it into a damned scavenger hunt instead. Not a single minute goes by in the movie without a couple of hidden images in the background appearing. It is a challenge to see what you can find each time.

I never laughed at any point, while watching My Big Fat Greek Wedding. I enjoyed it, but then again maybe you have to have rude, obnoxious parents to truly care for it.

I had absolutely no desire to go see the Truman Show, but went with my brother anyway to make him happy...it turned out to be one of my all time favorite movies!
I took my godson to Batman Begins, expecting to see the greatness of the Tim Burton films, and instead got a crap fest of whiney Bruce Wayne, his hag girlfriend, and seemingly everyone in the western hemisphere ULTIMATELY responsible for Thomas Wayne's death (seriously, they went through like 8 guys before Bruce "found out" who was really the person that killed his dad.)

X-Men 3. I went in a fan of the previous movies, and I went out a bitter, confused mess.
But as far as ones I found surprisingly good, uh...i'll go with Barbershop. I didn't expect much, but now it's one of my favourite movies.

I meant to post: *=Which is a shame since ads outright lie in order to get as much cash back as possible. See BLADE RUNNER's trailer advertize it as an action movie, when its anything but. See THE FOUNTAIN ads that make it out to be some chick flick, when in fact, its the most surreal 2006 movie you can watch without being on nyquil.

The Girl Next Door. I really don't like 'teen sex comedies', but this movie was pretty good.
