Just found this video via Deadspin: www.youtube.com/watch?v=jHPu8gpur10So it appears that nowadays the Red Sox are kicking the Yankees' asses both on the field and in the crowd.

A 3-2 margin in a season series counts ass kicking another team's ass these days? I'm just glad that Yankee fans are civilized enough to let visiting fans in the Stadium. Undoubtedly, Red Sox fans are much too raucous to do that. How else does one explain a fatality in the celebration of their first championship?

The death in question, Mr. SeemsToKnowEverything, was caused by a pepper spray projectile fired by police in an attempt to quell rioting. It struck Victoria Snelgrove (the fatality in question) in the eye, causing excessive bleeding and damaged her brain, eventually leading to deaath. She was also a Red Sox fan. But of course you decided to try and be funny, and act like nobody in New York ever rioted over anything like oh say, an Opera, or gangs, or a draft (by the way, all of those happened). But hey, why let facts get in the way of your jingoism? What happened was both accidental and caused by police incompetence, not by a Boston cop who wanted to off a random Yankees fan too overcome by depression at seeing his team completely blow a 3-0 game lead

But hey, why let facts get in the way of your jingoism? What happened was both accidental and caused by police incompetence, not by a Boston cop who wanted to off a random Yankees fan too overcome by depression at seeing his team completely blow a 3-0 game lead Please tell me, at what point was I trying to be funny? And, while you're at it, also riddle me how an opera, gang violence or a draft has to do with baseball-related incident, in this case, rioting. You mean to tell me, just because NY has had riots over trivial things, then the incident in Boston no less of a debacle? Smacks of self-righteous BS to me. I was already informed that Ms. Snelgrove was a Red Sox fan. The point that I'm trying to convey is that if those particular Sox fans weren't being total drunken assholes, the whole incident would not have taken place. And if I know at least nothing else, I know when the Yanks won it all in '96, there weren't any incidents of the sort. In light of that, I can understand why there's so few Yankee fans that go to Fenway Park in comparison to the Sox fans who often make the pilgrimage to the Stadium; the same fanatics who started that riot situation. And if I happen to be dead wrong about it, then f*** it.

Yawn. Hank needs to stop running his mouth every few weeks. The guy is an attention whore if you ask me I like how he says "only an idiot would leave Joba in the pen"...despite the fact he's one of the best setup men in the game. That's like saying "only an idiot would leaven Papelbon in the pen."

What the hell is Lugo doing? He's 2-for-2 with a BB today, raising his average to .294. He's supposed to lay down and die while Jed Lowrie sneaks in and takes his job. HE'S smurfING EVERYTHING UP!!!
And it looks like a series against Texas is just what the doctor ordered for Papi. 7-for-16 so far with 1 HR, 11 RBI, and 4 R. Just about everyone else is clicking in this Boston lineup so if Papi can get on track, this offense can be as dangerous as any in the game. Now all they need is the rotation to turn things around and all will be well.
As for Joba going to the rotation, this is always a discussion where I never have a clear answer. The "Should the awesome young reliever leave the bullpen" discussion. You have to decide whether you'd rather have a guy pitch 6-7 innings every 5 days, or have him pitch one late inning every 2-3 games on average. It's a tough decision because the Yankees need him as a setup man. They don't really have anyone else who's reliable that can step in and form a bridge to Mariano. Joba's easily the best setup man in baseball, and replacing him with a guy like Hawkins is a major downgrade. Then again, would you rather him pitch every 5 days and potentially dominate for 6-7 innings? I don't think he'll dominate like he does as a setup man, mainly because opposing lineups will see him 2-3 times a game. I think it's unrealistic to expect the same level of dominance, but he should still be excellent. And throwing him into the rotation lets them knock out someone like Kennedy or Mussina, who have been largely ineffective so far. So that's an upgrade there.
I think when you really look at the stats, you're better off having a great starter than an elite closer. Then again, I've already seen this Red Sox team without a legit closer (2003), and I don't like the way it worked out.
BTW, Lugo now batting .304. Actually, maybe Lowrie has rejuvenated Lugo. He's been playing pretty decently since Lowrie started getting regular PT. Then again, it's probably just the result of batting against Texas pitching.
