What the hell is Lugo doing? He's 2-for-2 with a BB today, raising his average to .294. He's supposed to lay down and die while Jed Lowrie sneaks in and takes his job. HE'S smurfING EVERYTHING UP!!! Lugo has to big off a salary to move so I never thought he was really going anywhere. Rotoworld was even speculating that Lowrie would be the one moved. I think that would be a terrible idea.

The death in question, Mr. SeemsToKnowEverything, was caused by a pepper spray projectile fired by police in an attempt to quell rioting. It struck Victoria Snelgrove (the fatality in question) in the eye, causing excessive bleeding and damaged her brain, eventually leading to deaath. She was also a Red Sox fan. But of course you decided to try and be funny, and act like nobody in New York ever rioted over anything like oh say, an Opera, or gangs, or a draft (by the way, all of those happened). But hey, why let facts get in the way of your jingoism? What happened was both accidental and caused by police incompetence, not by a Boston cop who wanted to off a random Yankees fan too overcome by depression at seeing his team completely blow a 3-0 game lead Please tell me, at what point was I trying to be funny? And, while you're at it, also riddle me how an opera, gang violence or a draft has to do with baseball-related incident, in this case, rioting. You mean to tell me, just because NY has had riots over trivial things, then the incident in Boston no less of a debacle? Smacks of self-righteous BS to me. I was already informed that Ms. Snelgrove was a Red Sox fan. The point that I'm trying to convey is that if those particular Sox fans weren't being total drunken assholes, the whole incident would not have taken place. And if I know at least nothing else, I know when the Yanks won it all in '96, there weren't any incidents of the sort. In light of that, I can understand why there's so few Yankee fans that go to Fenway Park in comparison to the Sox fans who often make the pilgrimage to the Stadium; the same fanatics who started that riot situation. And if I happen to be dead wrong about it, then smurf it. I am saying that the riots the New Yorkers had over more trival things were worse because of a larger loss of life. I don't condone overzealous celebrating by any means but the fact you're acting like the fact that we went a little overboard in celebrating an ALCS win means we're going to gun down Yankees fans in the streets smacks of an irrational phobia towards people from Massachusetts. It might as well be Xenophobia for the way you're acting like the place is a dark location on a map that only says "Here be Dragons" And given how you responded to the ass-kicking comment, you were either trying to be funny or trying to be vindictive.

Rotoworld was even speculating that Lowrie would be the one moved. I think that would be a terrible idea. Lowrie can be very valuable to this team if he can somehow learn to play a corner OF position. Then again, he's already very valuable. I think he should probably go back down to AAA for a while once either Lowell or Cora gets healthy, but this guy definitely needs to be on the roster next year. His defense is suspect, but he swings a solid bat and has good speed.

Yawn. Hank needs to stop running his mouth every few weeks. The guy is an attention whore if you ask me Here here. Hank Steinbrenner is his own greatest publicist. He realizes that his name isn't being thrown around much, so he just comes out and makes an absolutely outlandish comment that has no rationale or common sense behind it. And as soon as he says it, he sits back and lets the public eye settle back on him. That being said, I will continue to perpetuate every Hank Steinbrenner comment, because I enjoy his irrational and foolish comments that make both himself and the Yankee organization look like a farm team.

Two things about Hank's comments:
(1) "We need him [in the rotation] now" -- First, you can't just throw him into the rotation now. He'd need to go down to AA or AAA and make a few starts to build up his arm and stamina. It's not like you can flip a switch and go from pitching 1 inning a night every 2-3 nights, to pitching 5-7 innings every 5 nights. Doesn't work that way. That means while he's in the minors, the Yankees will be without him for probably a solid 20 days.
(2) "...you don't have a guy with a 100-mile-per-hour fastball and keep him as a setup guy" -- No reasonable Yankee fan can expect that 100 MPH fastball to remain constant throughout an entire game. Maybe for a few innings, but by the end, it'll be down in the 96 range, making it a lot more hittable than before. Still a good fastball, but nothing like before. Throughout the course of a game, he'll lose velocity on all his pitches. It just happens that way. And when you see him 2-3 times a game, that doesn't help, either. He's extremely dominant right now, but there's no way to be sure it stays like this if he moves to the rotation.
Also, as said on Rotoworld, he pitched about 112 innings last year. Any significant jump to this season is the kind of thing that can cause injury. And when you have a guy with so much potential, I don't think that's the kind of thing you want to risk.
Throw in the fact that the Yankees have no setup man, and it just creates another problem to worry about. I personally think they should wait until next season to make him a starter. I just don't like the idea of switching him mid-season. Maybe it works, maybe it doesn't. But it doesn't seem like a smart move. Let him spend the the 2008 offseason building himself up so he can start 2009 in the rotation. Unfortunately, when a team's mentality is that they have to win the World Series every season, the words "wait" and "next year" don't exist.
EDIT: Third comment from Hank: "[Mussina] just needs to learn how to pitch like [45-year-old Phillies pitcher] Jamie Moyer" -- So Hank is saying that for Moose to improve, he needs to pitch like another crapty starter? Yikes.

"Cashman said Joba Chamberlain would remain in the bullpen for now. At some point (Page 1 of the Secret Plan), he will make the transition to the bullpen." From the bullpen to the bullpen? Terrible journalism right there. They're on the same page...for now. They'll argue again no doubt about it.

Did you expect Cashman to say, "He needs to mind his own business. I'm the GM, I make the decisions"? Of course he's going to say they're on the same page. After ESPN ran that front page article that made those two look like a bitter couple that can't come to an agreement, you know Cashman will try to calm things down. And as for my team... ... things are looking pretty, pretty, pretty good

You'll believe the Steinbrenner beefing with Cashman, but you won't believe Cashman dispelling that? Why, it's as if you want the Yanks to mire in discord. The Sox are doing real well. In fact, I think they need to take another trip to Japan.

Steinbrenner: "Only an idiot would keep Joba in the bullpen" Cashman: "We're keeping Joba in the bullpen" Do you think everything is fine and dandy? Not saying that there's no chance that everything is well with the Empire, but it seems unlikely when it comes to this subject. Unless Hank was just on one of his random tantrum's until Cashman calmed him down with his bottle and a fresh diaper change ;D

How much does it cost to ship a former Notre Dame baseball player out of NY?
I can't take Heilman anymore. If he sucks it up again...

One thing I've learned about the Yankees is that this is par for the course. Last year should teach everyone not to count them out until they are mathmaticaly eliminated.
Believe me... I don't like saying that either.

I don't like saying that either. I don't think anyone's counting them out, especially not after ~20 games. Just talking about how Hank and Brian clearly aren't on the same page. They weren't during the Santana trade talks, and they aren't when it comes to Joba. If I were Hank, I'd just let Cashman do his job. He's been involved in the baseball world just a little longer.

Oh yeah, they aren't on the same page at all, I agree with that. That's what I get for reading only this page of the conversation.

Even if Cashman and Steinbrenner ARE on the same page, what the hell does that have to do with anything? It has nothing to do with the Yankees' performance. Hell, even if it were Girardi and Steinbrenner who "weren't on the same page" it wouldn't matter unless one REALLY wanted control of everything, and even then, A-Rod will strike out because he sucks with men on base, not because Steinbrenner wants Joba in the rotation! ;P
