Oh, I know you are just messing around with me Insomniac, but I do feel the need to state to remember that Smoltz is 4 away from 3,000 AND he spent 3 1/2 years in the bullpen as well as on the DL sometimes. Quite frankly, Smoltz has been a pleasure for this Braves fan to watch his whole carrer. Oh, I'm not messing around. I'm 100%* serious when I say that Smoltz needs an asterisk next to his name when they give him credit for 3000 Ks. It's a tainted number and everyone should know it. *: 100% = 0%It is nice that he's spent all his career with the same team and will end his career with the Braves. You rarely see that in sports anymore. And the Red Sox overcame the sucktitude of Dave Pauley and his hanging sinker, and have taken a 6-5 lead against the California Anaheim Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim (further known as CALAAOA). Julio Lugo now batting an astonishing .329, after being as low as .238 10 days ago. My mind is going to explode any second. And Jacoby has 2 HR tonight. He has an OBP up around .470 now. Dude, I was there tonight. The place is electric when Jacoby is up. I found out en route that Beckettt was scratched and damn near had a stroke. But they beat Anaheim and their shitty bullpen. good times, good times

Because of various injuries, sicknesses, and having to make changes after Beckett was scratched, the Red Sox bench for tonight will consist of the following: Jed Lowrie That's it. Dustin Pedroia is the emergency catcher should Kevin Cash get hurt. It'll be a miracle if Boston pulls off the win tonight. Do you believe in miracles? YES! Okay, enough with the exaggerating, but how in the blue hell does this team keep coming back and winning? This is the first Red Sox team since 2003 that didn't roll over and die if they were trailing in the 8th inning.* * - Not counting David Ortiz.Considering I expected the Red Sox to finish April under .500 after the crazy road trip of Fort Myers, FL. to Tokyo, Japan to Los Angeles, CA. to Oakland, CA. to Toronto, Ontario to Boston, MA. to Cleveland, OH. to Bronx, NY and finally back to Boston. Add to that the loss of Curt Schilling and Josh Beckett for the first week of the season. On top of that, they had a doozy of a schedule, with thirteen games against playoff contenders. I'm not going to sit here and say that the 2008 Red Sox are an underdog and that they're this amazing group of no-names that are pulling together and shocking the world, but this 15-7 start has been a pleasant surprise to this Red Sox fan.

Don't blame them. The replacement is a legend.

The Red Sox have not just caught the flu bug, but rather they have been destroyed by it. The list of names that will be inactive for tonight's game due to the flu or flu-related symptoms:
- Manny Delcarmen - Daisuke Matsuzaka - Jason Varitek - Kevin Youkilis - Coco Crisp
Thus, the Red Sox bench for tonight's game against the Angels will consist of:
Nobody.
The Red Sox have zero players available on the bench for tonight's game.

This is going to be a fun game. We're looking at a lineup of:
Ellsbury Pedroia Ortiz Ramirez Drew Casey Lowrie Lugo Cash
And the bullpen is also very roughed up at the moment. No MDC, but fortunately Craig Hansen was called up and should get a couple innings (he's looked terrific in AAA since changing his mechanics). Probably looking at a lot of Aardsma and Lopez as well.
Oh well, they'll get through this. They're facing John Garland tonight. Contact all night off this guy.

I'm very worried about Lester pitching on short rest. If he can go 4-5 innings, I'll be ecstatic. Hansen can pitch 2 innings, then some Lopez/Timlin/Aardsma to set up Papelbon.

I know what's wrong with Boston. They came down with the dreaded Osaka Flu:

They already have an oft-injured DH with Mike Sweeney. If he wasn't pissed about not playing in Toronto, imagine how he'll feel now. Why couldn't Minnesota or Baltimore snap him up?

2-1 Nats. Santana let a 2 out RBI hit to the f***ing pitcher.
Mets also can't hit but you already knew that.

WHAT!!?!?! If this is true, the Phillies entire medical staff should be fired! He walked around for 2 weeks and pinch hit a few times with that ankle, how can they miss a break?! Hurry back Shane Victorino! We need you! We still have Chase Utley and hopefully Pat "The Bat" Burrell can keep his hot start going and we can make it to June with a decent record.

When I saw Thomas got released, my first thought was that he'd go to Seattle. Tough loss for Boston tonight. I guess when you play with backup 1B and 3B, your catcher can't hit a HR out of a little league park, and you start a guy on 3 days rest with only a couple hours notice, you can't be expected to win. The fact that they were even in the game near the end is something to be happy about. BTW, Justin Masterson (AA prospect who nearly got dealt in a trade for Santana) makes a start tomorrow. So for the series, Boston will have started Dave Pauley, Jon Lester on 3 days rest, and Portland Seadogs ace Justin Masterson. If they can take 2 out of 3, I'll be a happy camper.
