Jorge Sosa and Nelson Figueroa DFA'd according to Metsblog. The Jorge Sosa era is apparently over thank god. Wonder if they could get something for Nelson? Maybe they can bring back Armando Benitez.

Over my dead body they will! By the way, Marty Noble reports that the Mets are shopping Sosa. Maybe they get someone if they eat his contract ala when they traded Mota to the Brewers.

With the season 1/4 over, here is a look at what the playoffs would be if the season ended tonight:
AMERICAN LEAGUE (1E) Boston Red Sox vs. (3C) Minnesota Twins (2W) Oakland Athletics vs. (4WC) Tampa Bay Rays
NATIONAL LEAGUE (1E) Florida Marlins vs. (4WC) St. Louis Cardinals (2W) Arizona Diamondbacks vs. (3C) Chicago Cubs
They won't hold up, but it sure would be interesting to see playoff baseball at Tropicana Field, the ratings of an Oakland vs. Tampa Bay series or a Chicago vs. Florida NLCS rematch.

Also, its been awhile since I've had some fun at the expense of the New York Yankees, so why not...
YANKEES HATIN' YANKEES:
{Rich 'Goose' Gossage in reference to Joba Chamberlain celebrating after striking out Cleveland's David Delucci last week.}

YANKEES HATIN' YANKEES: {Rich 'Goose' Gossage in reference to Joba Chamberlain celebrating after striking out Cleveland's David Delucci last week.} Two things to say about this: (1) I agree with Delucci (I think it was Delucci who said it in the ESPN.com article) that there's a double standard when it comes to pitchers and hitters celebrating. It seems to be accepted when a pitcher yells out and pumps their fist if they get a big strikeout in the 8th inning. But if a hitter hits a go-ahead HR in the 8th and they did something similar, it would be more likely to be frowned upon. (2) Goose Gossage should just shut up. If the kid wants to scream and get excited, let him.

This is why we suck on the road. I wish we could play all our games at home.

Sure it did Goose. We celebrated so much in 2006 that we almost went to the WS.
Just zip it.

As an amusing aside:
Tom Hamilton ends every Indians win with the proclamation "BALLGAME!". Incidentally, his announcing partner is Mike Hegan.
Unfortunately, he doesn't have the Southern drawl with which to elicit a proper "BALLGAME MAGGLE!".

In the bottom of the 4th in the Red Sox/Orioles, Manny Ramirez made a catch with his back turned against the wall, his momentum carried him into the wall, where he jumped and high-fived a fan, and still had time to throw out Aubrey Huff at first for a DP. Undoubtedly one of the finest plays I've seen from him not against the Yankees.
Sox still lost, 6-3. ;D

#1 in the division baby. I told ya'll in the Rays name change thread, this was our year! Or, the year it starts to turn around, at least. Just like when the Bucs changed looks in 97.
Props to the Marlins so far as well.

My buddy said it best right after the play occured, "I'll be impressed when he does that at Fenway." All he would have to do is switch to RF, I'm sure those drunken bums over by the Pesky Pole would him lots of love.
