As most of us know, Mikey Whipwreck spent a living getting his butt whooped, and cheered for it. People LOVED to see his ass get kicked to hell and back.
However, Colin Delany, a young man with a similar, if not the exact same gimmick on ECW, is NOT getting cheered. In fact, when Tazz asked the audience to applaud his bravery for coming out tonight, he was resoundly BOOED.
So is Colin Delaney the anti-Whipwreck? Is he just not pitiful enough? Why do people not like seeing him die?

If you try to force it on them, it won't work.

I guess it's because they've seen it and want something else.

Fans now dont care about low card guys/jobbers. If its not Cena, HHH, Taker, HBK, Batista, etc. It's just taking up time and in the way.
Seriously, I cant think of one guy below upper midcard status that is actually over/gets heat. And no, thats not all the writers fault.

I think Colin is pretty funny actually.... all his bandages this week made him look like Wile E Coyote. If he comes out next week in a body cast, I'll be officially on his bandwagon.

Also, you have to take into account that Paul Heyman isn't there. He did book Whipwreck to the ECW Title, and the fans were all behind it.

Whipwreck got over because he was like any reguluar ECW fan. He didn't have big muscles, a bit weird looking, undersized and not all that athletic. He was what the fans of ECW wanted. The same attributes that got Whipwreck over, are working against Delaney in the WWE.

ECW had a personal relationship with their fans. It was the same people every week coming out to watch, so the Mikey Whipwreck character worked as the fans got to know him and love him like a cult hero.
Now, if this gimmick or Charlie Haas's new "Random Luchador" gimmick was used in ROH, it'd be getting over like gangbusters just because it's a cult character in a cult company. WWE is far too large to have that personal relationship, so the majority of the fans don't care about the loveable loser... they want the dominant face or heel.

I just don't get interviewing a jobber everyweek right before he loses another match. There is no reason for anyone to support this story line.

If Colin Delaney was somehow winning these matches, he would be over with the WWE fans.

And the new (and overly f***ing pathetic) ECW is full of fans that would rather watch Smackdown and "Da Big guyz, j00!". The wrestling business will never be the same again. When ECW died, most of its' fans went to ROH, CZW and to other organizations that are far more intimate with their fans.

I remember that time he interrupted Santino when he was doing the review of the Condemned and it was dead silent when his theme hit.

1-2-3 Kid and Whipwreck worked so well because they were so profusely beat week to week.
If they had colin job for 3 straight months on the show. Then eventually getting a roll up victory, to the shock of everyone, and then they gave him promo time it would have worked.

Ask people to cheer someone and they'll boo. It's Tazz's way of putting Colin down even more.
Tazz seems to hate Colin. What the frick, Tazz?

So, WWE decided to basically decided to change the formula on how to get a jobber over as an underdog, and it's backfiring.
