When was the first time that you learned about the true story, the behind the curtain story of what happened at Survivor Series, 1997?
Better yet, where did you hear it from? Meltzer's newsletter? Your friends?
For me, it was the doc WRESTLING WITH SHADOWS.
You?

Internet wrestling community. And when was that? 1997 or later? Just curious.

Internet wrestling community. Nice screen name, why didn't you choose Hopsiah the Kanga-Jew at the bottom instead of that goat? In addition to Wrestling With Shadows, the first time I actually was aware of what I was hearing about was from the IWC around 2000 when I was getting back into the WWF.

I would agree with Vince if Bret didn't have creative control.

I had seen some stuff written on the net after the show, but I wasn't on as regularly then, and I only really grasped it when watching "Wrestling With Shadows".

I heard about it on ECW the following weekend, on the Hotline commercial where Joey Styles mentioned it briefly.

Hmmm, well this was about the time I was starting to check the net for news, but I'm not sure it's where I got the scoop. I'm not sure how deep the Aptermags dug into it

If you were on the internet then, you knew what happened immediately.
I remember reading one of those match-by-match results sites - I think wrestleline.com back then. I think they described it as a screwjob immediately when it happened. Then when Mick Foley and others boycotted RAW the next night, you knew for sure what happened. There was a lot of tension going into that match. Everyone knew Bret was leaving, and everyone knew about the heat between the two. A stiff brawl was expected (and there seemed a chance it would get out of hand). I don't think anyone expected that though.

I would agree with Vince if Bret didn't have creative control. He only had reasonable Creative control over his character. So agree with Vince with all your heart!

That is one PPV I would love to back in time to watch as it happened-If I had gotten satellite just a few months earlier, I'm sure I would have seen it live

I did watch the PPV, and was shocked at the ending, simply because Bret didn't tap out.
I then saw Nitro the next day and Rick Rude blasted Vince and Shawn, and I was confused.
It wasn't until years later that I read a few articles on the Screwjob, most notably Meltzer's detailed account of the entire situation behind the scenes, and Kirsty Quested's excellent articles on both Bret and Shawn from ObsessedwithWrestling.com, and realized just how complicated, emotional, and ultimately disappointing this entire incident was.
