I mean he was a talented wrestler with a decent amount of charisma, but you could hear a pin drop when he came out. What made him such a bomb? His Randy Newman theme song? His Mr. Slave look?

It was just a gimmick that's been done a thousand times before and there wasn't much that was fresh or original about it.
Plus, didn't really help that he got very little in the way of a push.

It was his trunks that made him look to gay to want to watch wrestle

I don't think people could separate him from his La Resistance character. The same goes for Rene Dupree and Sylvan Grenier, which is why all three failed as singles wrestlers.
Anyone remember when they repackaged Doug Basham as "The Bash Man"?
As if "The Con Man" wasn't bombing enough, did they really think this was going to work?

He may have had a chance if they pushed him longer. If someone ends up primarily appearing on Heat (which the average fan doesn't watch), and losing almost every match for about a year, they're not gonna be popular.

Well, remember when Conway was the legend killer.. the guy that was picking fight with legends. Then all of a sudden that gimmick got transferred to someone else when they realized people didn't like wrestlers who picked on nostalgia.

They gave him a look, not a character.

I don't really agree on Dupree and Grenier's singles runs, I thought Dupree showed potential and showed he could get over early on in his singles run. In my opinion, it was the fact that he kept getting derailed by injuries and then towards the end of his run, by wellness issues. With Sylvain, I think it was simply just a case of him not being very good.

His gimmick didn't get any heat. With most heels, you usually have a reason to hate them. But with Conway, he got no reaction because nobody had any real reason to hate him, or any real reason to care about him. He rarely did anything too heelish, but people knew he was a heel, so that's why he ended up getting the Conway Pop. He had a gimmick nobody cared about.

Because we need a name for someone who doesn't get a reaction at all, and we thought "conway pop" sounded good, so he was our victim

I guess we were supposed to dislike him because he loved himself and had a ridiculous outfit, but other than that he didn't do anything to make you hate him.

He wasn't a sight to see. The whole damn world didn't want to look like him. And we don't, so we just didn't look at him.

They did kind of drop the gimmick from him and made him a jobber and pretty much just let Orton have the exact same gimmick. I always thought Rob Conway could have gone a lot further if they had pushed him towards the IC title.

All I remember him doing was coming to the ring with a smug look on his face, looking like the bastard son of Marty Jannety and a Zebra. That's not really much motivation to start booing him, or caring about him for that matter. That, and he would job all the time. It's hard to take someone as any sort of threat when they're losing to Hacksaw Jim Duggan on Heat.

He didn't have enough charisma to pull off a successful egomaniac gimmick.
I think that's pretty much the reason why he failed. He was basically given one of the default heel gimmicks and very little else to make it work. And Conway wasn't the right man to run with such a small ball...
