> JIM JOHNSTON RECEIVES BMI AWARD FOR WWE MUSIC - WWE Music Director Jim Johnston was honored with a 2008 BMI Award for his work on Monday Night RAW. This was Johnston's seventh award by the BMI which is an organization representing more than 375,000 songwriters, composers, and publishers. He's been producing music for WWE since 1985 and is said to be departing the company in a few weeks after some disagreements. That will be a big blow to WWE as Johnston was in charge of creating theme songs for all the WWE Superstars and was involved in everything related to any kind of music that is played on WWE television.
> WWE'S EXECUTIVE VP, GENERAL COUNSEL LEAVING WWE - As if the departures of the Executive Vice President of Marketing Bob Collins and Music Director Jim Johnston weren't enough, Executive Vice President, General Counsel, Ed Kaufman is also quitting the company. The 49 year old has been employed by WWE since the beginning of 1997 where he first served as Vice President and General Counsel till March 1998 and then was appointed Senior Vice President and General Counsel from March 1998 to July 2003. After that he was given the position of Executive Vice President and in May 2001 became the Company's Secretary, two positions that he held on to this day. In his 11 year stint with the company, Kaufman put an overhaul in WWE's legal department and expanded the team to around a dozen of people working in the area. I hate to say the sky is falling here, but it is odd how some important people are suddenly leaving the company. Hopefully it's just a coincidence.

JJ leaving?
GOOD~!
Ok, he produced some of the most classic entrance themes ever, credit for that, but what has he produced of any consequence in the last 10, no 15 years?

He has the looks of Andre the Giant, and the strength of Barry Windham. Not to mention he's a hero to a few armadillos, a kangaroo and a small herd of bison.

JJ leaving? GOOD~! Ok, he produced some of the most classic entrance themes ever, credit for that, but what has he produced of any consequence in the last 10, no 15 years? Last 10-15 years? Hmmmmm, this is going to be tough: "My Time" Yo, Jimmy...hit me with that Triple H. "I'm Coming" Jim on that track. MVP "You Think you Know Me?" Edge "Burned" Kane "Break it Down" D-X "Oh, You Didn't Know?" NAO "Break the Walls Down" Jericho "No Chance in Hell" Corporation/Vince McMahon "Wreck" Mankind/Foley "Medal" Kurt Angle And, let's see...maybe one or two more...oh yeah... *GLASS SHATTERS!* and "DO YOU SMELL/IF YA SMEEEEEEEL...WHAT THE ROCK...IS COOKIN'!" Yeah, nothing that good in the past 10 or so years. I'm glad he's leaving too.

I'm sorry, but none of them to me are iconic theme music, other than the DX theme and Our Time which are credited to the Chris Warren Band.

Not quite the same person.

The Chris Warren band wouldn't be anywhere if Johnston hadn't offered them a job. And The Rock and Austin's themes aren't some of the most recognizable and iconic themes in wrestling history? You know exactly who is coming out when you hear a car crash or the trumpets in Foley's and Angle's music. Johnston has done an incredible job.

Vince's perhaps, Angle's was a re-hash of the patriot and just a bit bland, and NAO I couldn't pick it out for you, I don't remember it at all.

Using that logic Vince should get credit for writing them because its his money that payrolled the CWB. Austin's was glass smashing followed by generic rock I couldn't recite to you. The Rock was a sample of the Rock churning out an annoying (in my opinion) catchphrase. Angle I covered in a previous post, and Foley's I'm not aware of. The piano theme for Mankind was halfway decent though.

The crowd would explode for those guys. Angle's was bland, but that was supposed to be his character when he first came out. Moral-authority, Kurt Angle. He made it iconic with his in ring and mic skills. Edge is tearing it up now, he's used the same theme for years now, except when he used the Rob Zombie song, even then he had the, "You Think You Know Me", to start it.
