Since now Batman is an outlaw, the city hires Riddler since he seems to be the only guy who can match wits with Batman, so he is hired as senior private investigator. Being as it may, Batman has had to tone down fighting crime because of all the publicity surrounding his "actions" from the last movie. Due to this, the crime rate increases due to a new crime lord; Penguin. Riddler himself has a bit of a dark side as he believes to be infallible, he starts committing crimes and allowing for Batman to take the fall for them. He also takes payoffs from Penguin, who is secretly prepping an all out artillery war on Gotham. Batman, once again HAS TO become the hero and prove to Gotham that he is in fact innocent and the only way to do this is to take down Riddler before things get too messy. Or Now while I hate the female villians, Catwoman has potential to happen. However I WILL NOT watch this movie if they fall for eachother while they fight, like they did in Returns. What COULD work is that Wayne could date Selena to help "get over" Rachel's death and spoil her in a way. She gets used to this way and eventually finds out that Wayne is Batman. After they break up, she is cut off from those luxuries and goes to great lengths including stealing equipment from Wayne to help aid her in robbing jewelry. Caught in the predicament of both know who he is and knowing that still kinda cares for her since he's got that void in his life, Batman has a hard time bringing her to justice. Although I got this from wiki: Nolan is not committed to another sequel, explaining that he does not normally line up projects after completing a film. Gary Oldman is confident Nolan will return, and Bale said he would return if Nolan did. Oldman hinted in the third film Gordon would have to hunt down Batman. He has also mentioned that the villain of the upcoming film may be The Riddler. Nolan explained that as long as he is directing, he is not including Robin in the franchise because Bale is portraying a "young Batman", which meant "Robin's not for a few films". Nolan jokingly listed Frankie Muniz as a potential choice, if the studio forced him to cast. Bale joked "I'll be chaining myself up somewhere and refusing to go to work" if Robin is introduced. In addition, Nolan considered the Penguin difficult to portray on film, explaining, "There are certain characters that are easier to mesh with the more real take on Batman we're doing. The Penguin would be tricky." Christina Ricci, Sarah Michelle Gellar and Kate Beckinsale have shown interest in playing Catwoman, while David Tennant wishes to play the Riddler. Prior to the release of The Dark Knight in 2008, David Goyer ruled out using the Penguin or Catwoman as a villain in a future film, prefering to use antagonists from the comic that had not yet been portrayed on the big screen. Take it for what you will... As far as Catwoman goes.....I would say that if Marvel doesn't snap her up for Black Cat, then Scarlett Johannson should definitely be locked up for the role of Selina Kyle by Nolan and Co. If not her, than Doomsday's Rhona Mitra would be my second choice. And my choice for Riddler? Alan Cumming, AKA Nightcrawler. I think that Selina Kyle should be a brunette instead of a blonde since that is what she was in the comics. My choices are either Rhona Mitra or Kate Beckinsale.

I like Cummings for Riddler, that could be cool. No SJ for Catwoman though. I would kind of like Monica Belucci as a bit older more experienced type. Maybe she even helps mentor Batman as she has been a thief for years and yet no one ever knew. She teaches him more and better ways to avoid the law now that he is being hunted.

For those who never saw Doomsday (and shame on you for missing it!), this is Rhona Mitra: FYI, she's also going to be taking over for Kate Beckinsale in Underworld 3: Rise of the Lycans.

Just got back from seeing it a second time. Still awesome but I guess the only problems I had with it are that the Joker seems almost too diabolical. I had a hard time believing that he could commit all these acts like wiring an entire hospital with explosives without anyone noticing. Also, his timing seemed a little too perfect. Everything was just one plan after another in perfect order. It's no big deal or anything. Just something they probably had to overlook in order to make the movie work out.

I just saw this movie, yeah I'm slow....
Amazing movie, I didn't want to buy the hype (as many people on this board have). But Ledger won me over. His voice and mannerisms were the epitome of the Joker.
If I could still a line from the Amazing Atheist. "This wasn't apples and oranges, This was a Watermelon that Heath Ledger in his Gallagher-like fashion smashed to pieces."

I think Heath Ledger should win for best actor and Aaron Eckhart should win for best supporting actor. You could flip those around and I'd be satisfied. Eckhart was on-screen more than Ledger was, I think. But either way would be good (and there's still a few months left, but it would also be deserving). I'll agree with those who say Aaron Eckhart was amazing. Seen the film thrice now and his performance is breath-taking. Harvey Dent's fall couldn't have been executed any better. That said, though I haven't seen it too much, I completely disagree with the notion that Ledger would not be getting praise or Oscar buzz if he hadn't died. The buzz was already there before he had gone, it may have been a little amped up, but it was definitely already there. And it's deserving, the performance is flawless because it's not even so much a 'performance' as it is him completely blending into the role, which is even greater. if The Joker wasn't already, Heath made him into an iconic villain to the masses. On a side-note, I do find it quite amusing that we've had more iconic villains (Anton Chigurh, The Joker, Daniel Plainview on a smaller scale) in the past two years than in the past 17.

I had finals due last weekend, so I didn't see it on opening weekend. I got my finals all cleared up and saw it Friday. It was incredible. Ledger was unforgettable. I am conflicted about what they should do for the next one. Part of me says recast the Joker and the other half says to let the Riddler essentially do what the Joker was going to be doing and maybe try to explain away Joker's absence.

Be interesting to see what theme they'd go with in a 3rd. Since now Batman is an outlaw, the city hires Riddler since he seems to be the only guy who can match wits with Batman, so he is hired as senior private investigator. Take it for what you will... I wouldn't mind Tennant as the Riddler, but how about the man that voiced him in the original Animated Series: John Glover? He's a fantastic actor, and I still think that he can pull it off despite being up there in years.

MiLo Crapper....the great thing about that scene is unless you go by frames and in slow motion, you dont know where that pen went. You just know that it went into the other guy.
And El Crapper.....I think there is an easy way to explain Joker's absense by just saying he got locked up.

can i ask is Robin in the film?? everyone is convinced he is, Gordon's son but i keep saying its not, if Robin was in ti he would be called Dick Grayson Robin doesn't fit in the Nolan-verse, as we all know full well. James' daughter was shown, so there's your homage to Batgirl, but that'll be about it for the Bats sidekicks, probably, at least while Nolan is in charge. At least one professional film critic has said that whereas, Ledger's performance was very good, if he had not died, nobody would be screaming for Oscar. He also said Ledger acted better in Brokeback Mountain (please, no silly 'teh gayz' comments). What do yo guys think about that? Heath rocked in both Brokeback and Knight, but they're two completely different type of performances from a gifted actor. Personally, I like his Joker best over Del Mar, since there was technically more layers to the character, maybe...I forget. And also, in Brokeback he was doing his best Tommy Lee Jones impersonation, whereas in Knight he was doing it all, from the Tramp, Kane, Alex, and many other influences wrapped that performance into something legendary. I'm going to go see it again on Wednesday, for the fourth and final time.

Kate is hot as hell in those movies! Also, just got back from my second veiwing. There were some small things I didn't notice last time that I did this time around. Like Batman telling Dent, "You're going to leave a man's life to chance?" when he interupted him flipping the coin on that one guy. Dent replied "Not completely..." The first time I paid that no mind, this time I realize it meant because as much as he wanted to kill that guy as long as heads was "Live" that coin would always land on heads.

I think Rhona is even hotter than Kate, personally.
And did ya catch Dent referring to his "family" this time, DP? I think Rachel may have been preggers.

I caught that the first time but I figured he just meant because Rachel agreed to marry him right before she died that he was refering to her as his family, as in would be wife. Could have been pregnant though because she was trying to tell him something else before the bomb went off. Like Batman telling Dent, "You're going to leave a man's life to chance?" when he interupted him flipping the coin on that one guy. Dent replied "Not completely..." Exactly, now that I know what fits where, and what each word is a refrence to, I could tie the peices together better. There was a lot of foreshadowing in this movie, there was another example of something that was said early in the movie and came into play later. I can't remember what it was right now though.

Also, I want to say that Batman should have beaten the Joker more severely at the end than he did. Would have been a nice visual to have Batman hunched over the Joker, just BEATING the bejeesus out of him, and then the chopper spotlights him.....and he has blood all over his suit, and it's dripping off of his hand.
Might be tough to get the PG with that kind of stuff though. LOL!

One thing was Harvey saying to Alfred "You've known Rachel her whole life" and Alfred replies "Not yet." Ends up being a zing.
