I saw it last night and really liked it, though I felt like they could have made two different movies with what was contained. They really could have used Two-Face for the inevitable sequel if the movie would have ended about an hour earlier. The thing with Nolan is, though, that he doesn't like making movies with a sequel in mind. He wants the movies to stand on their own.

Ok, but he did a similair thing at the end of Begins in that the Joker was set up as the villain in the next film. I remember hearing at the time that they put that in as a treat for the fans, but recently he's said that he always planned to have Joker in BB 2. I would have much prefered if Two face was set up in TDK but only revealed at the end and saved for the next film.

I would have much prefered if Two face was set up in TDK but only revealed at the end and saved for the next film. Well, even if BB had been a stand-alone, teasing the Joker at the end wouldn't have made a sequel necessary, as everybody watching knows who Joker is. But it's a good strategy. If it had ended after only one film, it'd have done a good job establishing that Batman has now officially taken on the role of protector of Gotham. If TDK stood alone, it'd have done a good job of establishing Batman as the "unhero", perpetually misunderstood and willing to sacrifice his own standing for the greater good. Be interesting to see what theme they'd go with in a 3rd.

Be interesting to see what theme they'd go with in a 3rd. Since now Batman is an outlaw, the city hires Riddler since he seems to be the only guy who can match wits with Batman, so he is hired as senior private investigator. Being as it may, Batman has had to tone down fighting crime because of all the publicity surrounding his "actions" from the last movie. Due to this, the crime rate increases due to a new crime lord; Penguin. Riddler himself has a bit of a dark side as he believes to be infallible, he starts committing crimes and allowing for Batman to take the fall for them. He also takes payoffs from Penguin, who is secretly prepping an all out artillery war on Gotham. Batman, once again HAS TO become the hero and prove to Gotham that he is in fact innocent and the only way to do this is to take down Riddler before things get too messy. Or Now while I hate the female villians, Catwoman has potential to happen. However I WILL NOT watch this movie if they fall for eachother while they fight, like they did in Returns. What COULD work is that Wayne could date Selena to help "get over" Rachel's death and spoil her in a way. She gets used to this way and eventually finds out that Wayne is Batman. After they break up, she is cut off from those luxuries and goes to great lengths including stealing equipment from Wayne to help aid her in robbing jewelry. Caught in the predicament of both know who he is and knowing that still kinda cares for her since he's got that void in his life, Batman has a hard time bringing her to justice. Although I got this from wiki: Nolan is not committed to another sequel, explaining that he does not normally line up projects after completing a film. Gary Oldman is confident Nolan will return, and Bale said he would return if Nolan did. Oldman hinted in the third film Gordon would have to hunt down Batman. He has also mentioned that the villain of the upcoming film may be The Riddler. Nolan explained that as long as he is directing, he is not including Robin in the franchise because Bale is portraying a "young Batman", which meant "Robin's not for a few films". Nolan jokingly listed Frankie Muniz as a potential choice, if the studio forced him to cast. Bale joked "I'll be chaining myself up somewhere and refusing to go to work" if Robin is introduced. In addition, Nolan considered the Penguin difficult to portray on film, explaining, "There are certain characters that are easier to mesh with the more real take on Batman we're doing. The Penguin would be tricky." Christina Ricci, Sarah Michelle Gellar and Kate Beckinsale have shown interest in playing Catwoman, while David Tennant wishes to play the Riddler. Prior to the release of The Dark Knight in 2008, David Goyer ruled out using the Penguin or Catwoman as a villain in a future film, prefering to use antagonists from the comic that had not yet been portrayed on the big screen. Take it for what you will...

At least one professional film critic has said that whereas, Ledger's performance was very good, if he had not died, nobody would be screaming for Oscar. He also said Ledger acted better in Brokeback Mountain (please, no silly 'teh gayz' comments).
What do yo guys think about that?

Ledger is great but no oscars. Although a special recognition Oscar for his career would be good

Heath did a great job, but the character was pretty shallow over all, he was damned near a running plot device. Dent had so much depth and duality it could have easily gone to hell really fast.

I'd really like to see the Penguin, Riddler, Catwoman, Mad Hatter (a small side role) and eventually Bane (done right) in the future.

I almost think they should use Holiday. It'd be perfect for the tone of the movies. But of course with how The Long Halloween ended that doesn't work so well.

Just sae the film today and I have to say it is awesome. From the Jokers pencil magic trick to the big action scenes, right down to the corruption and reveal of Harvey Dent as Two-Face (The Make Up/Computer effects for him were amazing and very creepy.)
Also enjoyed the fact that Joker was arrested (Not killed off) was horribly malevolent throughout and just brilliant.
I also liked the nod to the extreme mobile phone bat sonar being similar to the bat computer, and the epic scale of the scene where they arrested the Joker.
I also thought that Bale did a good job with Wayne/Batman.
Overall fantastic.

Maybe the Oscar talk wouldn't be as loud, but Ledger did what Johnny Depp did in the original Pirates movie; bring a ton of life and definition to what will now be an iconic cinematic character. I think, even if he had lived, Ledger's Joker would still go down as maybe the best movie villain in 20 years. And, of course, Depp was nominated for Jack Sparrow. Ledger could've definitely, while alive, been nominated for Joker.

Reasking because it didn't get answered in the last thread:
For those of you who have seen it in IMAX, which 4 scenes were the ones that were filmed with the IMAX camera? Which ones stood out the most?

I think Heath Ledger should win for best actor and Aaron Eckhart should win for best supporting actor.

If they did Bane that would have to be probably later and it would be nice to see them adapt the initial Vengence of Bane comic that was released, as that was to me such a good story on its very own.

Which ones stood out the most? The big action scenes (Bank heist, prison escort, hospital explosion and the final Joker scenes in the unfinished building) also pretty much every aerial shot of Gotham City and Hong Kong are shot with Imax cameras.

As far as Catwoman goes.....I would say that if Marvel doesn't snap her up for Black Cat, then Scarlett Johannson should definitely be locked up for the role of Selina Kyle by Nolan and Co. If not her, than Doomsday's Rhona Mitra would be my second choice. And my choice for Riddler? Alan Cumming, AKA Nightcrawler.
