Why couldn't he just be Colt Cabana? smurfing WWE has to ruin everything. Yeah, a name change just ruins everything! How will we survive?

Look at the name change this way. It's like playing SvR08 and creating a character perfectly but you can't find his name so you just pick whatever's best and pretend not to hear it when his name is announced. But Scott Goldman works because it's Colt.

Colt Cabana is such a better name, but he's still himself.

I don't get the name change. But then again, I don't really get the idea behind the E making new names for their guys. Where would they jump ship too after making a name in WWE? What promotion could POSSIBLY be bigger than WWE and pay better that they would jump, or request release, to go to?
TNA used to be an option, but by now we all know it won't break it's 1.1 mold. It's been years and no new fans have been gained. What makes people think they'll grow? They've tried many booking styles and none of them stick. The company is just riddled with stupidity...
Also, when you sign with WWE you sign a non-compete clause now. It's standard. So why don't they envoke a clause that they can't use the name elsewhere unless they are granted release from WWE?
This way we get the totally awesome names like Matt Sydal and Colt Cabana, and WWE knows they won't jump ship. But like I said, who would jump ship in this day and age?

Scotty Goldman as a ring name > Evan Bourne, Braden Walker, and Ricky Ortiz.

I just want to say this because it's been bothering me. Ok WWE didn't use Colt Cabana but, Colt could have made up with the Scotty Goldman name himself. On one of the WWE round tables Mick Foley said that Vince was going to name him Mason The Mutilater and well he said you can't tell Vince no, you can come up with something better and he might take it, so Foley came up with Mankind. This was also reported about Sydal. He came up Evan Bourne after he turned down other names. So once again Colt could have made up with the name so don't bitch about it.

Scotty Goldman is close enough to his real name(Scott Colton), so it doesn't bother me.

Well, if he would've come in as Colt Cabana, there's a good chance he'd never be able to use the name after WWE.
I honestly believe one of the things that sealed the deal for Punk to join WWE is he is allowed to keep the rights to his name, most people aren't given that option though. In all honesty, being in the WWE is a crapshoot, especially if you rose to fame on the indies and are unsure if the character you perfected there is who the WWE wants. So, just showing up on TV, doesn't mean you'll live a long life on RAW, Smackdown or ECW. So, it's a good idea to play it safe and keep your indie name and suggest a new one.
At least that's my theory on guys like Cabana and Matt Sydal. There's not much, if any, difference between Sydal and Bourne, or Goldman and Cabana.
Of course... it'll take a while to get used to the new name. But, the most important thing is that he gets to do what he does best.

Frankly, on the name issue, WWE can call him whatever the hell they want, as long as they don't call him Matt Classic.

Well, remember, Evan Bourne didn't exactly have the best debut either and he's doing pretty well for himself now. Didn't Jay Bradley have a match this week too? Of the no-entrance, no trapped in a box variety? Pretty much a squash but he got ring music Who cares about Colt. Jay Bradley should have been treated better. A true talent and good heel Oh and he is friends as well with internet icon CM Punk

"Woah, I'm in a box."
"Woah, two Scotty Goldmans?"
Ha bloody ha, you spaz.
I don't think he's ruined but a few more weeks of that and he'll be a no-hoper.

Personally, I loved the in-box promo. I was greatly entertained. I'm also very easily entertained at times, but still, funny stuff as far as I'm concerned.
I'm also glad to see Colt/Scotty was able to get some offense in, even getting a near fall from "the flying a-hole". Hopefully this will mean good things for the future of a certain Scotty Goldman.

IF they continue to use him as a one off character, simply appearing here and there, spouting one liners, or making observations around other WWE talent....he might just take the Santino route and become a fringe star who begins to gain more and more applause, before finally breaking out huge with one big match, or one CLASSIC skit.
Heck, it took Mick Foley more than a little while, and quite a few big time matches and ONE classic, sweatsock infused promo before people FINALLY got behind Mankind and cheered their asses off for him. Give Scotty some time.
Oh and one other reason for the WWE not using the Cabana name: They might just have plans for the return of Carlito's Cabana.

That would be kinda funny if people started giving him Goldberg style "Goooold-man Goooooold-man" chants. That would be pretty awesome if enough people did it.
