It'll be a few weeks before we get to see what they have in mind for Colt. He could go the way of Braden Walker or he could end up like Punk. It wasn't a great debut, but it wasn't horrible. Plus, I marked for the Butt-Butt.

I don't know why, but when I hear Kendrick talking like that, he reminds me of Mission Vao talking about Zaalbar in Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic.

I thought he was pretty great, myself. I mean, it was a little 10 second promo to introduce himself to the audience. If you were expecting to fall out of your chair from that, youre expectations were too high. What if I did fall out of my chair. Get a new chair.

I've only ever seen one Colt Cabana/Scotty Goldman promo. One from OVW where Mike Kruel's faction are arguing and Colt is in the locker room singing "Copacabana" off to the side. Vladimir Kozlov starts dancing for some reason...
My thoughts...
He's there in WWE, an achievement in itself.
He's using the same kind of gimmick.
Just because you lose your first match doesn't mean no one will give a damn about you.
IT'S JUST A NAME!

I won't lie, I had no idea who he was. I've heard the name Colt Cabana thrown around here often enough, but I didn't know it was him until I came on here. So I'll go with the gut reaction, typical Smackdown fan first impression;
"Who the f*** is THIS loser?"
The "in a box" comment was hideous. I can't understand how people would even begin to find that funny - if Cena had said the same thing there would be 20 threads talking about how terrible he is.
OK, it was his first match and his first 20 second promo. But I can imagine Vince watching that and adding Scotty Goldman's name right under Colin Delaney's.
Who the hell is going to root for some tubby, unfunny, corny goofball babyface with "boom boom" written on his outfit? Like I said, I have no idea how good he was elsewhere, but can you REALLY see something like that being a hit in WWE?

Is it actually a well known joke? I may be showing my ignorance here, but I just think that it was something to make him look wacky, a bit zany. I don't think it was actually meant to have people laughing that much.

So, being in Australia I get to see SmackDown aired earlier here than in the US. Today I was unfortunate enough to see Colt Cabana's debut as Scotty Goldman. I won't spoil it for those of you who have yet to see it. But man... it is LAME. He's not just there as a jobber (I actually felt better for him when he was jobbing on Heat, sice I didn't cringe like this), he gets a proper sort of introduction via a little pre-taped interview in the top left hand corner. And that's where it all goes horribly, horribly wrong. Scotty Goldman is made of FAIL. And for the record, if you've never seen the guy work and you're going to judge him and immediately bury him based on a 10 second promo that most people thought was funny and a short match that was pretty good all things considered, you might wanna get off your high horse and, oh I dunno, give the guy a chance for more than 5 minutes. Have some smurfin' patience. It's a virtue you know.

Sure, one match and a 20 seconds, laaaame, promo aren't enough to judge. But after having read so much about that Cabana guy being so awesome, I felt underwhelmed... Is it all? What's so great about him again? Probably, like 531525632 other Awesome Indy Superstars, Cabana was amazing and had a cult following, for reasons I can't quite figure, but WWE and its audience are a totally different beast. And, at least to me, Cabana/Goldman looks unimpressive and goofy. Not someone I can care about, let alone mark for.

I think there's two groups of people here:
A) Those who knew of Cabana, and his style of comedy, and found the 'in a box' promo funny. B) Those who never saw him before, and found the promo very lame.
I stand by my comments earlier, that maybe that promo might have worked for a more established character. It seems those who were already Cabana fans liked it. People like myself who really haven't seen much, if anything of him didn't seem to like it.
And there lies the problem. I just think it was a really poor way to give people a first impression of him. Everything else about his debut seemed fine to me. The promo made him look like a dork, and not in a good way.

It depends really, if you're not into that over the top goofyness, then he might not be your cup of tea. I think he's alright, but of course everyone has their views on it. Some like the guy, some don't.

Alright, I've kinda studied him a bit, and I dont think his gimmick is "Not being all there". Here is what I think: Promowise, he is just a goofy guy who says what he wants, when he wants. He doesn't take people seriously unless he feels that he needs to. Otherwise, he just has fun. In the ring though, it's gonna sound weird, but he is kinda like bizarro-Undertaker. He plays mind games with his opponents, but not in the way most people think (ala Taker/Kane fear play). His whole thing is playing with his opponent to try and make them lose their focus and lose their cool. Once he does that, it's a cake walk from there. There's my two cents I think the bizarro-Undertaker comment is a very good description. Instead of scaring his opponents like Taker does he frustrates them by not taking things seriously/having fun with his opponent. Hopefully Scotty will be able to display his comedy European style soon so everyone can get what he is aboot. In all honesty, Colt/Scotty is the goofy friend that everyone has and loves.

What sucks is that there's going to be a small but strong contingent of people on this board who are going to hate ScottyColt because he's been so hyped by us fans and because he's an IWC favorite. Bank on it.

How was it a poor way to give people the first impression of him? He kinda seprated himself mildly from the lot of the "New guy on TV" with that little dumb promo which was slightly funny, his outfit which was at the very least attention grabbing. And he got to debut. Now if he had won, I'd be willing to bet we'd have another thread on "Vince has given up on Brian Kendrick already" and people would say it was dumb to have him job to a rookie nobody. It was his debut. He's not going to/nor should he come in and run through a 5 year undefeated streak. But he's there, they've already gone out and tried to show some of his character. I'd say it was a winning debut for the guy.
