I've never really been a fan of Hogan, but the fans' reactions to him these last few days have surprised me: When Sting was going through all these wrestling mentors on Impact, the crowd chanted "overrated" when Hogan's pic came up. i have to see this. From whatever I've read Hogan almost always comes across as a pompous ass that only gave a shit about money, and not all that much about his Hulkamaniacs. I'd nail brooke though. Just to see the look on hogans face when he found out.

Just to see the look on hogans face when he found out. Guys like Raven, Nash and others have said the guy was always cordial and nice to fans. Raven tells a story on the shoot he did with Sullivan about how he was at the airport hanging with Hogan in the early part of the morning and how he signed every single autograph that came his way and didn't turn anyone away. Doesn't sound like this pompous ass to me. But of course if you're the top guy you're always going to get hated on in some fashion or another, especially if you're not a workrate machine.

Well, i started watching in 1992, so i didn't see Hulkamania in full swing. But i do respect what he has done in wrestling, the impact he had on the sport. Not a huge fan, but i respect him nonetheless. However, i will never, EVER, forgive him for what he did to WCW- along with Bischoff, Russo and Nash. hogan didnt kill wcw, if anything he saved it by going there. aol cancelled them, thus killing wcw... hulk was over even as funb hulk. wcw died 2 years after the fingerpoke. like them or not hogan and nash were over, why wouldnt yo uuse hulk as an asset,he has a proven track record. if hulk started losing left and right, ppl would be like wtf, hulk used to be unbeatable.

I loved Hogan as a kid, but the older I got the more I saw this guy with an ego so massive that I'm surprised it doesn't have it's own congressman.
While I don't hate Hogan per se, I just don't like guys with huge egos like that.

Maybe, but at the same time, it was Hulk Hogan that was featured on the cover of Sports Illustrated, and Hogan that was primarily featured on Saturday Night Live. Were there many factors that went into the first Wrestlemania? Of course. But it's impossible to discount or downplay Hulk's importance in the formula. And following Wrestlemania I, Hogan had the company on his back for the better part of the next decade, and in a business where many guys on top either burn themselves out (Warrior, Lesnar) or become physically incapable of performing (Austin) after a few years on top, for the guy to have that long of a run is nothing less then extraordinary. And in addition to that, the guy turning heel and joining the nWo was the single driving force that piqued mainstream interest in wrestling for the second time. Sting, Savage, or anyone else wouldn't have had the impact that Hogan turning had. And the WWE owed that nWo angle with expanding the wrestling audience in general, giving the WWE the platform to push Austin as the new face of wrestling and eventually overtaking WCW. Long story short, Hogan's influence over professional wrestling in the United States is staggering. Easily the most influential wrestler of all time, and as wrestling fans, it's unfortunate how many people look past all he's done to bring wrestling to the point it's at now and improve the quality of life for people directly involved with the business. Saying Hogan is the reason for Austin's popularity in the late 90s is ludicrous. WWF was going under and nobody gave a crap. If anything, people changed channels because they were sick of Hogan's old song and dance.

Hogan was gone from WCW for almost a year before they went out of business. Please everyone try and remember this.

Personally speaking, I was around for the 80's boom and Hogan did nothing for me. I found him obnoxious, tedius, and a glory hog. And I figured this out when I was still in grade school. But I do admit that pro wrestling wouldn't be what it is, good or ill, without him. Without Hulk, there would be no WWF, WWE, WCW, or any of the indies that started up around the turn of the century. Think about it.
No Hogan, no WWF. No WWF, No WCW. No WCW, no Jushin Lyger vs Brian Pillman No Lyger/Pillman, no Mike Quackenbush No Quack, no CHIKARA.
Like it or not, wrestling as we know and love it wouldn't be possible without Hogan. And this coming from one of his biggest critics.
