I've never really been a fan of Hogan, but the fans' reactions to him these last few days have surprised me:
When Sting was going through all these wrestling mentors on Impact, the crowd chanted "overrated" when Hogan's pic came up.
And tonight on RAW, when Hickenbottom teased (im)possible partners, the crowd gave huge reactions to Austin and Hart, but Hogan... nuthin'!
Did he very recently do something bad, that I missed? Or is this just Hogan hate in general, coincidentally just days apart?

Because half the crowd didn't get the reference.

Because half the crowd didn't get the reference. Half of a pro wrestling crowd didn't get the Real American reference? Really...? It's the equivalent of saying "The Game". And personally, I marked out a little when the TNA crowd buried him.

I think a prerequisite of being a smark is to hate Hulk Hogan.
And if anyone's overrated, it's the Nature Boy.

I guess that his reality show plus that car accident involving his son made even marks and non-wrestling fans realize that he is an annoying jerk.

The Hogan hate annoys me. I know a lot of people - mostly smarks - dislike him a lot, for his work as much as anything else, but very few of the shoots I've seen or books I've read have buried the guy. He seems to have been nice to almost everyone even if he was fairly aloof in WCW. And you can't blame a guy from being arrogant when he made as much money as he did. Plus in his 2002/2003 run he actually put over a lot of people and had some good matches. The match with Brock was brilliant. I don't think Hogan deserves the flak he gets.
My main problem with him is I think he should've jobbed to Randy Orton. I think that would've put Randy into the stratosphere.

I'm not a fan and i certainly don't consider myself to have an atitude of a tpyical, or what's defined as a typical, 'smark' fan, a term which i absolutely hate whether it's being used with pride or as an insult.
There's a thousand guys from that era i prefer to Hogan, obviously i can understand why some people find it hard to comprehend a guy who was so huge is hated by some people and consider it to be purposely going against the grain, which i'm sure some people do, but in all honesty he just bores the crap out of me, always has, regardless of what's good for business - i don't care.

Hickenbottom? I guess you mean Shawn.
As far as Hogan, I totally agree with drbackflips above me.

his comments after Nick's incarceration didn't help much Exactly what I was thinking. And a few other of his shennanigans added to it.

Quite honestly, the "Real American" moniker could apply to quite a few people.... now, if HBK would have said, "A Real American, Brother.." it would've gotten a bigger reaction. That's just my opinion, though.
At the same time, Hogan HAS been trashed by the media and is dangerously overexposed these days. The same way nobody takes Ozzy seriously anymore.

I don't know about what happened on RAW but the chants on Impact were just the Impact Zone being the Impact Zone.
Overrated? Give me a break. Hogan's a lot of things but "overrated" doesn't really come to mind.

I think that the show and the whole Nick thing has done a number on his public image, particularly among casual fans. Besides, it's easier to like Shawn when he's poking fun at someone.

I wonder if he appeared on Raw next week would he get a pop like he did in 2003 after the Rumble or will he be castigated by the crowd

They'd cheer him out the door. They always do.
But they'd still laugh at Shawn taking the piss out of him.

He was there in December and within seconds the crowd was chanting his name during his confrontation with Khali. I'd ascertain it would be the same if he appeared before a live crowd today.

I thought Michaels was referring to Dusty Rhodes until this thread. Maybe there are other dopes like me and that's why there was no reaction.
