What happened to this thread, anyway? Did Jason disapprove of it and decide to slaughter Erisi?

I like the next two movies in the series, but the two after that...yikes. There's some disheartening stuff to go through. If you remember WAY BACK when I did the F13 review thread, I couldn't even review JGTH or Jason X because it would have just been too sad.

On Friday the 13th, Jason will meet his match. Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood~ "There's a legend 'round here." I love this opening for some reason, sure it's just a wrap up of the first few Fridays but somehow it's cool ~ That creepy music for the Paramount mountain is also cool. ~ Now when does this take place? We see Jason lying in his watery grave right at the start but there's a house there and all that, did the camp close down and people build houses in the area in between 6 and the start of 7? Did anyone notice a dead masked man not 4 feet below the water just beyond the pier? ~ Tina really has a snippy attitude when she first meets Nick, he's just trying to help. ~ Now, Dr Crews, he obviously has some ulterior motives for getting Tina to use her powers, but what are those motives is he working with the Government or something? ~ I guess the name Forrest Green never took cuz it's right back to Crystal Lake again. ~ You can run, and run and run, but no matter how fast you are, Jason is still right on your ass. ~ How did Mellisa ever end up with this crowd? She's really apart from the rest being as awesome as she is and all. ~ Speaking of crowd, this really is one, there's tons of people in this one probably too many as I can't remember hardly any names. ~ Hey Jason you need a weapon? Jason don't need no stinking weapons *heart punch* ~ Damn girl, using a sleeping bag?! This'll fix her good. ~ Tina sure does a quick turn around on Nick, making out with him the very next day. ~ Lol, Mellisa hiding behind a tree. ~ There goes Jason killing people in the water again, the guy must really like being in it. ~ Why does Maddy go looking for that guy out in the woods, did he say he was going out there or did I miss something here? ~ I got a date with a soap on a rope. ;D ~ For all the build up, the long long build up, that stoner chicks death really sucks, thrown out a window, how brutal. ~ Jason using power tools? This is an outrage! ~ Mellisa should have listened! Why didn't she listen! ~ Jasons seeming confusion over Tinas powers is pretty damn funny. ~ His "oh you're gunna get it Bitch" look is even funnier. ;D ~ Does anyone else pack 100 tons of explosives in their basement? Cuz the Shepards obviously do. ~ Yeah.... that ending what the Hell happened? Was Tinas dad just moldering down there along with Jason? Do they ever fish bodies out of Crystal Lake? Was it just a dream? If so what happened to Jason? Weird, just weird. ~ For a movie about an undead serial killer brought back by psychic powers it comes off as an honest effort at least, sure the plot sounds goofy but they really do play it straight, much more so then VI. ~ The MPAA slaughtered this movie worse then Jason ever could. Every single death in this is cut in some way, and if you watch the outtakes you really have to wonder why some of them are so messed up, they ever cut out a bunch of Jason just walking around cuz the MPAA said he was "too decomposed" or some such nonsense. This movie badly needs an uncut version to be released. ~ Friday the 13th & Theme ~ meh, just meh. uk.youtube.com/watch?v=NEwzAAjxk8Y

Glad to see Erisi has truly brought this thread...BACK FROM THE DEAD!!! HAHAHAHAHA *cough cough cough* Anyway: -Man, this movie is filled with hate-able characters! At least people who don't particularly like each other have a reason to go to a camp counseling seminar or become counselors...how in the hell are the people at this party even friends? -I don't think Dr. Crews works for anybody in particular. I think he's just looking for some s*** so he can write a book and make a lot of money. Dr. Crews is also the most hate-able dude in the movie. -Speaking of hate-able people, the concept works AND doesn't work in this movie at the same time. Seeing Tina get treated like crap makes the scenes where she uses her psychokinesis have more meaning, you have a reason to root for her to stand up for herself. Problem is, it also gives you a reason to root for Jason to slaughter the hell out of these annoying f***s. Which, I prefer when Jason isn't meant to be the hero of the movie. -Welcome back to the franchise, boobies. You were sorely missed in Part 6. Also, goodbye "wink at the camera" comedy. It's a shame you couldn't stay gone. -I do love the design on Jason in this one. I really like how he bears the scars of just about everything he's been through over the course of the series, PLUS the decomposition of years spent underwater. -Jason's fall through the stairs was pretty badass, too! -Tina's dad was originally supposed to be much more decomposed and ghostly in appearance, which would've made more sense than what we got, but still wouldn't have made a whole lot of sense overall. -Yeah, but he also doesn't spend anytime swapping bodies with people, or hunting down his supposed sister! Where's your precious comedy in regards to that, good sir?! -Probably because it's the voice of Crazy Ralph from Parts 1 and 2. Or so I've been told. I don't quite remember that, but it's been a long time, so cut me some slack. At any rate, yeah, Goes to Hell and Jason X are certainly "ugh" movies, but for the sake of completion, you really have to take in the misses as well as the hits.I just noticed I use the Italics button way too much around here. ;D

You keep saying that. Boo for you. Goes To Hell is my favorite of the series and Jason X was just fun for me. A big, hearty thumbs down for you, Mister. Did I ever say you weren't allowed to like them? ~ The MPAA slaughtered this movie worse then Jason ever could. Every single death in this is cut in some way, and if you watch the outtakes you really have to wonder why some of them are so messed up, they ever cut out a bunch of Jason just walking around cuz the MPAA said he was "too decomposed" or some such nonsense. This movie badly needs an uncut version to be released. A lot of fans absolutely adore this movie likely for this reason. The kills, with John Carl Buechler in charge, are indeed epic, and could have been even MORE epic as evidenced by the special features on the DVD - having said that, this is the FIRST F13 movie that did not hold my attention very well in the scenes featuring people doing things BESIDES getting killed. Thus, The New Blood gets a middle-ground review from me - I certainly didn't hate it, but it doesn't have quite the same status in my own mind as the first four movies in the franchise do. ~ Jasons seeming confusion over Tinas powers is pretty damn funny. ~ His "oh you're gunna get it Bitch" look is even funnier. ;D The best aspect of the movie, hands down -- it's amazing that by having a guy who honestly cares about being in a silent role behind a mask can make such a difference, but it's the little touches in Hodder's portrayal of Jason that really stick with you. One of my favorite moments in the film occurs in the climactic scenes set in Tina's house - after she dumps Jason into the basement and Jason grabs her, Hodder does some SERIOUS acting through a mask to get his face to contort into some hardcore expressions of rage. Hard to imagine any of the other actors/stuntmen in the series doing anything like it. That, and after the sleeping bag kill, there's that quick shot of Jason's head snapping around, eagerly looking for more victims. A+ for Mr. Hodder.

TR, I'm inclined to agree with this in regards to the "party house." The people there being either incredibly hate-able/annoying (as I've said before) or really quite bland (the male lead). The Tina/Tina's mom/Dr. Crews triumvirate is pretty good at keeping my interest, though. Dr. Crews is a first-class asshole, and its really easy to hate him and what he does to Tina and her mom. And seeing Tina confused and scared of her powers just makes it better when she gets to go all-out with them against Jason. I don't hold this movie in quite as high regards as most fans of the series, but I'd put it at slightly above "middle." Then again, I'm about to gush with enthusiasm when Erisi posts his thoughts on Jason Takes Manhattan, so it's quite possible I'm just a horrible barometer for taste.

If I remember right it was in part 6 or 7 and they wanted him to kick this dog and he said "Jason wouldn't do that"

And I'm fine with that. But you have to be able to admit there are some stupid things in that movie. Even for it being a movie about an undead killer stalking kids from a remote camp all the way to NY.

I thought it was one of the last ones from Paramount series. I would have liked to had Hodder back as Jason but it didn't bother me he wasn't in it. I thought Kirzinger did a okay job. I want to see how Derek Mears does as the new Jason.

I also agree with you on the family/Dr. Crews storyline being pretty good and especially on the Dr. Crews character itself; he's both written and portrayed (in quite a good performance by Terry Kiser, btw) as a really, really disgusting sleazebag. While I agree that the crowd, by and large, shouldn't be cheering Jason on, it certainly doesn't hurt to have one VERY dislikable character in these types of movies. Given that fact, Dr. Crews' original, uncut death would have been such an awesome, crowd-pleasing moment.

-Jason's fall through the stairs was pretty badass, too! Yarrgh! Cool as it was, I didn't like how at times Jason just seemed to stand there and wait for Tina to work her T.K. powers against him. Also, I think I'm the only guy here that DOESN'T like how Jason's face looked in this installment.
