-Funny that you mention people usually fall into the "love it" or "hate it" camps, with no middle ground, because I am the middle ground. I think its okay, but don't particularly love it or hate it.
-No nudity, and very little bloodshed...not cool, in my book.
-The comedy is meh, it doesn't entirely work for me, but its not quite as groan-inducing as Jason X's attempts at humor.
-That Frankenstein-like resurrection of Jason scene is incredibly badass, though. This movie is where the supernatural finally comes into the F13 series.
-This movie at least brings cops to the scene of the massacre, since they've been mostly missing for the first 5 movies.
-I honestly can't come up with anything else to say about this movie. It just comes off incredibly bland, in my opinion. *shrug*

The only thing that really stands out to me about this movie is the two boys who are really nonchalant about the whole situation, kind of sad thats the only thing that sticks out.

It's certainly not horrible, but "bland" is a good word for it.

I'm a big fan of this movie. It was made by a genuine FAN of the series in Tom McLoughlin, and it shows. Love love LOVE the "James Bond"-shot before the opening credits, and I actually like the humor in this movie - particularly the little snide jabs at slasher flicks in general (the caretaker saying "some folks have a STRANGE idea of entertainment!" while looking directly at the camera and the paintballers with "DEAD" headbands on just before they die come to mind immediately - not to mention the "smiley face" tree kill).
One other thing that I'd add, Erisi, is that in this movie it almost feels like Jason isn't fully AWARE of his own newfound undead power. When he rips one of the paintballers' arms off, he kind of subtly looks at it like "How the f*** did I do THAT??" That's another lol moment for me.
While I love TFC and think that movie would have made the perfect ending to the series, this movie would have made an amazing ending to the franchise as well. Grown-up Jarvis and Jason have a final confrontation, and Jason drowns again.

Okay, some stuff to add:
-I find it odd that Jason wouldn't kill the kids in this movie, considering he at least put in an effort to kill Tommy in Final Chapter (pre-head shave). I know "children are innocent, Jason kills sinners" but...
-There's very little of what one could define as sin happening this time around.
-Jason Lives ultimately comes off feeling "safest" of all the F13 movies. Meaning, there's way too many characters that are off-limits by Hollywood's rules of movie making, that its difficult to build any sort of dramatic tension.

Just gonna add this - the triple decapitation death was awesome.
Good to have another post, Erisi. There was a mini-revolution in the "Friday the 13th Poll" thread last night - some 30+ posts in just a little over two hours. We need our F13 fix!

I'm a bigger fan of the "Human Jason" movies, so thus, I don't have the encyclopedic knowledge of THESE movies that I do of the earlier flicks (read: I read these chapters of "Crystal Lake Memories" once while I read those earlier ones - oh, five or six times) - was the sheriff's brutal death hacked up by the MPAA as well?

Yup The whole thing was shown in the real version as opposed to the before and after effect we get in the ending product. It's still available in the workprint/bootleg version tho'. Other then 7 who's cuts are legendary 6 and 2 are the most chopped up.

On the the The Friday The 13th Chronicles DVD for part 6 I loved the story that Tom McLoughlin talks about where he kept Jason's tombstone from the film and has it in his backyard and that the light people were afraid to go to check the meter. They thought that there was a real person buried in the backyard

Imagine the HEATZ on Jason if he had slaughtered those kids. Well, he's still technically the villain of the story. I think I'd rather have the most hate-able Jason over Captain Cuddly Jason. While I certainly love the Human Jason cycle of movies, I've seen parts 5 though 8 more often. I'm gonna have to pick up that damn book one of these days, though. I really want to see a Director's Cut of New Blood. I wanna see those removed pieces in all their glory, and I'd like to see the ending the way it was originally intended, with Tina's dad being more of a decayed apparition. As it stands, New Blood has probably the most "wait...what?" ending of the series. I probably should've saved that last bit for tomorrow, but f*** it.

LOL @ Captain Cuddly Jason.
Speaking of that, however, I understand that a lot of people bash Freddy vs. Jason, but believe me, people - of all the screenplays that were written for the project over the years, that was the BEST one they could have possibly went with. Because Good God did they have some crappy ones...the Captain Cuddly Jason remark reminded me of one.
In one of the screenplays, Jason was presented as a VERY sympathetic character who only kills out of self-defense. I swear I'm not making that up. Freddy uses his dream powers to commandeer Jason's body and attempt to kill everyone in Springwood, but Jason manages to drag Freddy out of dream world and defeat him mano-e-mano. Just to complete the cheese, the screenplay ends with a big, sappy zoom-in (complete with *tender music* beats in the script) on an old photo of child Jason's big, happy, smiling face.
To anyone who complains about the Freddy vs. Jason that we got, just remember - it could have been a LOT worse. In the movie we have, Jason gets the victory over Freddy because he's the lesser of two evils, not because he deserves our sympathy.
And Erisi, I think I know where you're going with the "Jason in water" comments. ;D

I actually like Freddy vs. Jason. I thought it was much better then both Freddy and Jason had been in recent years.

And man, it sounds atrocious. I've got some stuff to say about the later Jason movies (if you remember my posts from earlier F13 threads, though, you probably won't be surprised by what that stuff is). I'm willing to wait for Erisi's posts, but man, this crap's just sitting in my brain waiting to pour out. And I may very well mean "crap" when I say that. And yeah, I know exactly what Erisi's leading to with "Jason in water."
