Why were you watching The Patriot? Its terrible, everything about it is completely untrue. As someone that studied history at school that annoyed the hell out of me.

Ya know, if I was slightly more awake I would applaud you and then make a multi-page rant on why Braveheart is the worst film ever created for that same reason.. But I'm too tired.

Yeah, pretty much everything historical that Mel Gibson makes suffers from inaccuracy throughout. My favorite part of The Patriot is when the evil Colonel William Tavington burns a whole town alive inside a church, not only would have never ever happened in a million years, but it would have lost the British the war immediately, by alienating the half of the American population who were still loyal to the king. Oh yeah also the fact that Colonel William Tavington is killed in the movie when in real life the guy lived until 1833.

Eh, Mel Gibson, Heath Ledger and Jason Isaacs are worth watching. I'm pretty sure is was never intended to be a Ken Burns-ish documentary, just a drama set during the Revolution, so rampant inaccuracy is something I can forgive. I'm just a total sucker for period piece war movies no matter how untrue.

Ahem... I believe this thread is about the Valentines Day Simpsons episode. Great episode but its a bit strange to watch because of how Ralph's voice is and how he acts differently from how he did later on.

I don't think historical inaccuracies automatically make a movie bad any more than historic faithfulness automatically makes a movie good.
But what do I know? I liked Apocalypto.

Xerxes himself must still be rolling around in his grave from that one.
