I was watching Dark Knight yesterday, and was considering what direction the third film would go, seeing as how Joker isn't really an option.
That being said, remember the black gangster leader that Joker gave a Glasgow smile not unlike his own, who collapsed after the slice with the knife? Did it explicitly say if he died from it?
Because, if he didn't, he was a pretty good actor. I wonder, if they were fine re-imagining Joker, what about HUSH or Black Mask?
(And no, not Black Mask because of the actor being black. It's because the character often obsessed over things like scars and masks. This would be less silly than the comic background likely would.)

It's implied he died.

Oh, okay. Though, usually in movies, as in comics, an implied death is as good as "maybe he'll be in the sequel". ;D

Joker may still be back - but recast though. I think that may have been Nolan's original idea. I don't know who would be willing to step into the role to replace Ledger. It'd be a heck of a job.

I could see them doing that down the line, but only one film removed, fans would probably crap on it. Luckily, the makeup makes it easier to recast than it might of been.

I honestly hope if Nolan does make a third Batman film that The Joker isn't in it. Just think that needs to be left alone. Mention him fine but its too tough to re cast after Heath.

If HARLEY QUINN is the villain in the next Batman film......bad things will happen to that franchise.

I never said it'd be THE villain, but A villain, I can tolerate that, especially since copycat killers are nothing new. Now, if we're talking the main villain, I would rather it be Bane, Riddler, or maybe Catwoman, since the series already has Batman blurring the lines of whether or not he fits the general idea of a hero.

Catwoman COULD work, but only if it was legitimately sexy, and not the sort of crap Halle Berry tried to do. Bane would definitely work, even if they just had him be like Brock Lesnar sized, and not necessarily super strong. Just focus on how he was when he debuted, outthinking Batman. Maybe the police would hire him to bring Batman to justice for Dent's death.

Damn straight. Though, the way I picture it, he lifts Bale for the backbreaker, and he narrowly escapes. I know a lot of animated shows have already done that, but that's because it's a great throwback. ;D

Then the movie flash forwards a year, and the city's gone to hell. (And by that, I mean the way it was before Batman showed up.) After the end of The Dark Knight, I think that'd be a great way to redeem Batman. Show them how much good he's really done by making them experience how bad things are with him gone.

I want to see a pedophile-like Mad Hatter as the villain. It would fit with the real-world feel of Nolan's Batman, and it would be flat-out creepy.

Well, maybe not going that far, it might seem like a copout. I'd have him be beat within an inch of his life, but escape the breaking. He'd take a few weeks to recover, and it could all go to hell. If it took a year, it would be too gradual for anyone to know Batman was the saving grace.
