Looks pretty awesome to me. Jackie looks like he might just pull this off.

On one hand, it's one of the great character actors of this time. On the other hand, he's in yet another slasher film remake. I'm not against the idea of Jackie doing horror. However, I'd wish he'd get an original series.

I actually thought it was pretty cool to see some of those same shots used. But the question is... why? if I want to see those shots I'll watch the original with robert englund, with this why can't we do something totally new that'll freak people out?

Fans of film will find something, anything, to bitch about the remake of said film. Normally the bitching is because it isn't being faithful to the original, now we have someone complaining that it is being TOO faithful?! Make up your minds people! Either a remake is going to not be faithful or too faithful. Personally, I find the fact that they are using those shots again is paying tribute and acknowledging how iconic those scenes were in the original.

It's like 1984's A Nightmare On Elm Street, only.. uh.. newer... What's the point, exactly? This reminds me of the shot-for-shot remake of Psycho- I'm getting the same vibes... and the actress playing Nancy isn't anywhere near as pretty or charasmatic as heather langenkamp.
Pass. They'd have been better off doing a total re-imaging of the story and character's history even if they still kept the same character design.

Where seeing a trailer can give you enough information to evaluate every single thing about a movie.

This looks incredible. No two words about it. Jackie Earle Hailey has got the part nailed, and Elm Street needed some kind of remake.
Stoked beyond all reason for this.

There always was a leaked script floating about and it was, by all accounts, pretty lousy. Most of the bitching is based on that.
I think Jackie Earl Haley might end up playing Freddy even creepier than Englund going on the brief snippet. On the other hand, with this stuff anbout Freddy being genuinely wrongly accused in this version, as opposed to being let off on a technicality in the original, we may just get a more extreme version of Rorshach. I do think they made a mistake showing him at the end there. The first shot of Freddy in full make-up is the proverbial money shot. I don't see why they gave it away like that, darkly lit as it was.
I don't think anyone has fully tapped into the potential of the Nightmare Killer idea as yet, not even Wes Craven himself. Maybe it's just me, but the idea of a guy who can use your worst nightmare to kill you has been a rather damp squib so far. People complain about the lighter tone the series took but Freddy was verging towards clown back in the first one. The guy should be terrifying, not tossing off one liners. But again, maybe that's just me.

When Haley tore off the jacket and revealed the sweater, I got goosebumps. GOOSEBUMPS!!!
Yeah. Pretty interested in this.

Wes Craven must be just sighing and shaking his head right now... much like he must've done when he saw ANOES 2...

So because their were some shots in the trailer that looked like famous shots from the original, we're just gonna assume that the entire movie is a shot for shot remake?
The trailer itself is awesome. Im not expecting too much from the actual movie. The writers havent done anything good, and the director is a music video director, whose videos kind of sucked. The only reason his 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' video was great was because Kurt Cobain himself edited it. Its really disappointing too, cause a movie like this has huge potential. Especially with all the crazy dream stuff they can do now in 2009.
I think the new Freddy will be good though. No Robert Englund, but still...

Wes Craven must be just sighing and shaking his head right now... much like he must've done when he saw ANOES 2... Uh.....He had a direct hand in Hills have eyes 2 (The sequel to the remake) He has no room to sigh and shake his head at ANYTHING.

It looks okay. Is it just me or does the face shot of Freddy look kind of weird? It almost looks like a mouse or a ground hogs face. Then against it might just be because it is a different actor.
One good vibe I get from the trailer is that the Freddy character won't be all that comical. I'd like to see them take him in more of a darker direction like they did in New Nightmare.
