Gotta love the optimism on these boards about this kind of stuff, right?
Okay, here is my 2 cents: this isn't entirely a bad move by TNA. Lashley has some good exposure from MMA and his previous WWE run. He's big and green but he can get better. My guess is he will have a brief flirtation with TNA's main event to help hype his "momentous" arrival, then he will move a bit down the latter to the upper mid-card-I can see monster vs. monster feuds with the likes of Rhino or Abyss coming very easily. I can pretty easily see him going the way of Gail Kim: getting a lot more experience and exposure in TNA for a few years, then probably going back to WWE full time as a much more well rounded performer.
And lets just wait and see, can't we? The guy only just debuted, and instantly there is all this pessimism. TNA is gonna use him bad, he'll get overpushed, another ex-WWE loser, etc. Lashley's run with WWE as so short I think he barely qualifies as a burned up cast off. He is still young and he DOES have potential. He's semi-decent in the ring and can probably get better with time, he has a good look, and he has a sort of limited charisma. His mic work was his biggest fallback in WWE, and if TNA can give him a mouthpiece like a manager or a partner to work with while he improves, he could be potentially awesome.

He never said "bathturd." What the hell? I don't believe he ever said "bath turd," what he was trying to say was the other word for an illegitimate child, but with his lips it came out as "bathturd" instead of the actual pronunciation. And it just caught on here on the boards, much like the idea of basketballs not holding grudges.

According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer, here is the latest on the future of Bobby Lashley. Lashley's camp has stated that Lashley has not signed a contract with TNA Wrestling, and that his appearance last night was for he and the company to become acquainted with each other. The plan would be for Lashley to do wrestling for TNA on a limited basis, while still training for MMA. Lashley, who is 2-0 in his MMA career, is negotiating a contract with Strikeforce as well as negotiating for a June 27th fight with Bob Sapp. That fight would take place at the Mississippi Gulf Coast Coliseum for Biloxi for Prize Fight Promotions. Sapp has not agreed to the deal, but is reviewing the contract. Lashley could agree to the bout as early as later this evening. www.411mania.com/MMA/news/102496So TNA are putting another guy in a featured position, sans contract? He isn't Rikishi I grant you, but surely they are making the same mistake here. If he gets punked out in an MMA match, his tough image is shattered, if wrestling starts to hurt his physical condition for MMA, he could bail. Stuff like this makes me shake my head.

You know, I don't care about TNA's fondness for "WWE Rejectz"...I just really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really don't want to see Bobby Lashley ever again. I could not STAND the guy in WWE and unless he improves to Rock/Austin levels, I wil still loathe the guy. ugh...2006 is coming back to me now...nooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

I know the promo in question and he clearly says "bastard."
It just became bathturd around here because it's (supposedly) funnier.

They gotta be smart about this, only be as committed to Lashley as he is to them, so they won't be left holding the bag.
If Lashley is allied to MEM it will help. Once he leaves they still have enough guys to adapt and keep going. Every guy in the group is good on the mic and can compensate some for Lashley's mic-skills.
He was just dull as a face hopefully as a heel TNA can liven him up some. I'd go for arrogant uberjock.

Posted on: April 20th, 2009 Bobby Lashley will work Full Time for TNA UK Newspaper The Sun this morning have confirmed that Bobby Lashley is under contract with TNA and will work full time with the company as well as MMA.
Simon Rothstein who was present at Lockdown confirmed this morning that he had spoken to Dixie Carter, Jeff Jarrett and Bobby Lashley himself and they all confirmed he is now a full time TNA worker.
Bobby’s debut is certainly one of the biggest shocks for TNA fans and it’s going to real interesting to see what direction they go with Lashley and who he will feud with first.

Remember Test and Rikishi's ground-breaking runs? Angle,Christian,Nash,3D and Bashir say Not Really *Singing* "One of these things is not like the others. One of these things does not belong". Also, Christian's gone.

Frankly, this move has very little downside for TNA.
Like Lashley or not (and, honestly, I rarely saw him work, since I had stopped watching WWE well before he debuted), he was making his name pretty well before he left, and people will know/remember him.
More than that, though, he's still young and likely working to improve. He's not broken down, he's not living off of reputation, etc., instead he's actually looking to build a reputation.
And if he doesn't work out? Well, then he doesn't work out. But his upside, if he's rounded out his game, could be pretty damn big.

I really hate that he's choosing to do both.
Doing wrestling will effect his MMA career because of all the bumps he's most likely going to take.
A really light schedule would be cool, but he wouldn't be that big of a force in MMA, we always hear about guys getting hurt in training.
I don't really want to see Lashley fall back into wrestling, he showed that he's got some skill in real fighting, and I hope he doesn't waste his potential in pro wrestling for the full time.
If he does wrestle, I don't think he'd be booked to lose, or even take some horrendous bumps.
To keep face he has to NOT LOSE

I think he can do both. TNA has a very limited schedule. He could also do less house shows. So I don't think he will be broken down much.

I'm firmly "meh" on the prospect of Bobby in TNA, just like I'm "meh" on the man himself. When used right and kept FAR, FAR, FAR away from a microphone, I think he can do wonders, but if he's used wrong, then it'll stink, and badly. Hopefully, TNA can take the high road.

Thats the most dangerous thing about this situation...his last fight against Guida was not that impressive His tough image would not be shattered if he loses an MMA fight, especially in the world of wrestling. OMG, a professional MMA fighter beat Bobby Lashley, how are we supposed to buy him as a legit threat to AJ Styles? come on.
