WOW @ some of the Rage Hate in here
Anything to give RATM more spotlight (and hopefully nudging them to record more songs) the better.
Also I highly enjoyed Zack and John Theodore( Of the Equally Awesome Mars VOlta) Project "One Day as a Lion"

I find the whole thing stupid, the fact is that the RATM backers are saying that Cowell is controling the music industry by forcing his people on top...WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING THEN!? Because obviously like any music fan should know, Christmas=Killing in the Name Of. It's hypocritical in my opinion and is not only damaging Joe's carrer, but also people that have put songs out as well this week that have lost the attention that they rightfully deserve because some Facebook group decided to stand up to the "coprate fat cats".

Isn't the whole point of this campaign the fact that a large portion of music consumers are sick of Simon "controlling the music industry by forcing his people on top" and are thus taking back the control, if only for a week? Sure, Killing In The Name Of isn't a Christmas song, but neither is a freakin' cover of The Climb. And how is this damaging to his career? The kid is 18 and has an entire career ahead of him; not having the #1 song for a week isn't exactly career-ending. Hell, it got his name further out to the masses, didn't it? If anything, I completely support the Rage Against The Machine campaign because I've always been taught that if you don't like the way something's being done, you stop complaining and do something about it.

They should have picked "Bulls On Parade," it was a better song.

So Christmas = Random talent show contestant singing a Miley Cyrus/Hannah Montana song in your opinion then? Also I scoff at the idea of RATM holding down all these artists you speak of, as if anyone normally ever has a chance going up against an X-Factor winner

I love Joe and I actually like his winners song. Couldn't they have done this last year? I was pulling for Jeff Buckley's Hallelujah but that campaign never took off.

No, Rage against the Machine is merely a stand in for every other band of the 90s with delusions of their own importance, like the Insane Clown Posse or the No Doubts and "Girl Power", or Marilyn Manson, or every Rap act that took the Scareface Fanboy act to a new level. Apparently Teenagers of that era were too ironic to enjoy music on it's own terms, and were required to have a cause to listen to it.

I never got the th Joe love, he was average, had the same expression all the time,in my eyes Olly and Jamie were much better (Jamie Afro shoulda won the whole thing)

No one would mind if the X-Factor winner was released for the 2nd week of January but every year it is the Christmas number one spot, and frankly it shouldn't be an x-factor song. It should be something christmassy or stupid (Mr Blobby or bob the builder)
I however won't be buying the RATM song, because A) I have it already and B) I have a 50 pound bet on with my mate that Joe would take the number one spot.
Not that I want Joe to win.

As far Jamie I take Louis' side on that one. Joe has a great voice in my opinion and was the deserving winner (behind Jedward of course)

I'm past caring. All this just seems like a waste of time at this point and all the stories about it are just making me seperate myself from mainstream music even more. Heck, it's reminding me why I haven't listened to the radio since I started Uni.
I don't care who makes it to number one tommorow (or today depending on what side of the world you're reading this on), I don't care whether Cowell is laughing at the end of it or Facebook booms in celebration because of it. I've said my view on it and I got bombarded with negative comments (not from here, of course) so there's no point.
People are taking this way too seriously when, at the end of the day, it's music. It's not a battle of life and death, noone's going to die if Joe or Rage get to number one and I have my own MP3 player with tonnes of tracks that I love and will add whenever I think of tracks I love to have on it. When people talk about 'principles', I shake my head and I can't help but think that, if they can put this effort into this, we'd have everything we want right now in terms of a more stable society.
Like I said, I'm just tired of hearing about it. Let whoever wins win and move on with our lives.

I still think we should have gone for "Don't Stop Believing" instead of "Killing in the Name of" You know, to show Joe how the song is MEANT to be sang. {Spoiler}And the fact John and Edward should have won. ;D

I think it's perfectly reasonable to be drawn to musicians who speak about things you believe in or things that interests you. There is nothing wrong with just liking a band for the music, but there is nothing wrong with appreciating a band for what it stands for either.

There are a huge amount of 60s/70s bands that were closely tied to social causes too. It didn't make their music and less viable. The alternative is robosingers manufactured by Simon Cowell.
I'm not saying RATM is even a band I like very much, but acting like the music scene now is vastly superior to that of the 90s is ridiculous. Almost all the bands now given "a push" are horrid electronic robots. Do we really want a world where the only things people listen to are Miley Cyrus and Lady Gaga?

If I lived in the UK, I would buy about 50 copies of Killing in the Name.
Stop Cowell!
