What to you was the most most shocking rumble win of all time?, the one that you were least expecting?
It only dawned on me today that the only rumbles I've watched live are 2001, 2008 and 2009.
2001 I didn't find shocking, I was just disappointed because I was such a Kane mark back then.
2008 I had been out of the loop to long to know what to expect.
2009 didn't surprise me.
I therefore feel I have no credible opinion on the matter and would like to know what you think.

Probably 2006 with Rey Mysterio. Despite all the rumors at the time and the angle behind it, I REALLY didn't expect them to actually get behind Mysterio to that degree. I expected Triple H to win it.

2008, because nobody saw Cena being in the Rumble. Once he entered you knew he was winning, but he wasn't even supposed to be back till after Mania.
I'll completely admit, I marked big time when his music hit. I hadn't marked like that for years.

I guess I could also say 1995 with Shawn Michaels. I was young at the time, but even I was shocked he won it.
The thing you have to remember is at that time he had basically been out of ring action for the most part since WrestleMania X. He was basically managing Diesel for most of 1994 until the turn at Survivor Series. He mostly only worked tag matches with Diesel during their tag title run. So I thought maybe he was winding down as a wrestler or something, so I didn't expect him to win the Rumble.

1993 and Yokozuna. A guy who'd only been in the promotion for a few months and squashed random jobbers was the no 1 contender to the WWF title thanks to winning the Rumble. Since then the subsequent winners haven't surprised me (yes even Vince in '99).

Big John Studd. He beat Hogan, Andre, Dibiase, and Savage (who was the champ at the time). He pretty much did nothing else his entire career.

Cena in 2008 since I didn't think he would return till after Wrestlemania. The only other one that comes close was Vince in 99, I thought he had an outside chance that was it.

I'll say Mysterio in 2006. Though I didn't see Cena winning in 2008 (since nobody knew he was even going to be in the match), I could at least say I could see him winning one eventually. I never would've guessed Mysterio would have won one.

Cena, only because he was supposed to be out for months.
Ive been telling anyone who will listen that they need to have someone unexpected win the rumble. Im not talking like, Jimmy Wang Yang or anything. Someone like Morrison or Kofi
It'd really give the feel that anyone can win it.

Since I started watching in mid-1998...
1999 - Pretty clear that Vince was going to win, I'd say. Especially with all of the teases of him getting a higher number, like the Corporation / DX battle royal. 2000 - Ditto for the Rock, even if I personally consider Big Show the winner thanks to the later retcon. 2001 - Wasn't really watching at the time, but it's Austin - not exactly shocking. 2002 - Triple H winning it was clear months in advance. 2003 - Lesnar had done everything else, why not? 2004 - Benoit was pretty heavily telegraphed, between the storyline he was in at the time and getting number one. 2005 - Batista and John Cena were the leading options going in by far, and Batista winning made much more sense for the storylines that were going on. 2006 - I thought it was pretty likely Mysterio would win. Him winning from number two was what was surprising. 2007 - With all of the rumors that had been flying around for months of Undertaker / Batista and the way WWE had kept them apart for years, seemed fairly obvious. 2008 - Easy winner. Just days earlier a news report had come out saying that Cena was going to be out longer than expected, but apparently he's made from the same alien space metal as Vince McMahon. 2009 - What had happened a few days before made it pretty clear that Randy Orton was going to win, if it wasn't easy to surmise before then. The fact that they didn't go with the routes they seemed to have set up months before of Orton / Cena and Edge / Triple H was the surprising thing but then, both of those were overdone.

Just like how this is my first post after a few year exodus from the forum, the first Royal Rumble was the most shocking. Jim f***ing Duggan won that one. Jim Duggan shouldn't have won anything ever, let alone a prestigeous event

Cena in 2008, since we all thought he'd be out until the summer.

The only other guy with a halfway decent chance in all of that, was Goldberg. And that was only for the possibility of Goldberg vs Lesnar for the WWE Title. But Benoit's win telegraphed completely, with him being announced as the number 1 entrant, and Heyman saying he would never get a shot at the WWE Title.

Possibly, I see where you're coming from however considering The Ultimate Warrior and Jake Roberts were in there as well, I'd still say it's the most shocking ones, considering the question is "What was the most shocking win at the Rumble". Nothing was said about popularity, hype or rules.

Vince in '99 was pretty shocking to me. I mean, they telegraphed it, but I really didn't think they'd do it. I fully expected an Austin win.
Cena in '08 was less of a "surprise" and more of a "for the love of all that is good in this world PLEASE go away and never come back."

Anyway, Ric Flair was shocking for me, I was hoping and expecting Hogan to win.
