Point Break was awesome. Cheesily awesome, but awesome nonetheless. Also cheesy awesome, if not as cheesy awesome as Point Break, was Bigelow's Blue Steel. I mean that ending alone was the tits. Indeed.

I'm not taking sides in the argument, but I have to point out that Cameron directed that as one of his first I think, and Alien et al came after. I suppose it's the inverse of his ex-wife. Fair, though I'm not the only one to have noted how Avatar was his weakest screenplay. How can a guy in writing go from Aliens, Terminator, and Abyss to being less compelling than friggin Titanic?

I don't think Point Break sucked. Strange Days was a great film and Near Dark is f***ing awesome. Ok, K19 isn't very good but there's not many directors who have a perfect success record. Even precious James Cameron directed Piranha 2. I'm not taking sides in the argument, but I have to point out that Cameron directed that as one of his first I think, and Alien et al came after. I suppose it's the inverse of his ex-wife. He also directed True Lies right in the middle.

I don't care for her politics, but you know Streisand there really genuinely choked for a moment there. So yes, the director of Near Dark is an Oscar winner. Fixed for Awesomeness!!

I just really find KB winning to be so...weird. I mean, Hurt Locker is like the only film of her's that is even passable as a decent or good film. Point Break, K-19, etc. All sucked something fierce. It is like the opposite of most Best Director winners, who make mostly good films and a few bad ones. KB made nearly all bad films and one good film. That would be like giving Ed Wood an award for Best Director if he came out with one good film. I don't think Point Break sucked. Strange Days was a great film and Near Dark is f***ing awesome. Ok, K19 isn't very good but there's not many directors who have a perfect success record. Even precious James Cameron directed Piranha 2. Well to be fair James Cameron was promoted from Special Effects supervisor to director because the original director quit for obvious reasons and James Cameron basically had no power. Hell he wasn't allowed to do any post production work on the film. There is a famous story of him breaking into the studio in the night to try and edit the film.

When The Hurt Locker (Good film but not my favourite of the 10 nominated) won I flashed back to Naked Gun 33 3/4
*four of these films were financial successes except one*

There will be no Point Break bashing!
If I were a moderator, it would be a bannable offense...

Here's an awesome stat, all the acting winners tonight were first time winners, and 3 of them were first time noms as well.

The following films needed more love: A Serious Man, Moon, Up in the Air, Up.
I hope they don't do ten nominations next year, that was a bit ridiculous. Even the announcer lady was like "Who's going to win Best Picture? Hurt Locker? Avatar? Precious? Or will one of the silly ones pull an upset?"
This was a VERY strong year for docs though, just judging from the films that WEREN'T nominated, but I'm glad The Cove rose to the top. Great film and deserved its' win.
Also, Sam Rockwell and Michael Stuhlbarg deserved nominations. Both were BRILLIANT!

I haven't fired my gun in the air, but I DID have Jeff Busey help me infiltrating a gang of surfers led by Patrick Swayze.

Well, to also be fair, Cameron's major successes may not have been that much his doing in the story department. Titanic was a fairly normal love story set against the historical disaster. Aliens was taking a very tense horror movie and turning it into a Hollywood action romp (Ripley's awesomeness not withstanding). Terminator was adapted from Harlan Ellison stories. And The Abyss, well that was fantastic until the pretty darn weak ending. Cameron knows how to make a buck better than just about anyone else, but he's also had some really good source material to take for his movie plots.

He could off but it would probably would look unprofessional, make himself look like a bad film director who can't be trusted, and remove experience. It would of probably been harder for him to find a job if he did that. Plus this is 1982 before there was internet or Wikipedia for fact checking. Anyways I have to post this for The Hurt Locker winning.
