He could have taken his name off it if it was that bad a situation. He could off but it would probably would look unprofessional, make himself look like a bad film director who can't be trusted, and remove experience. It would of probably been harder for him to find a job if he did that. Plus this is 1982 before there was internet or Wikipedia for fact checking. Directors do it quite a bit. I doubt he would have had too much of a career hit if he didn't put his name on a cheap B-movie that they wouldn't let him work on. It didn't do bad things for Michael Mann and David Lynch.

Irregardless of that...where will one find the ratings and viewership results of this little shindig?

Just Happy that Christoph Waltz got his award. And that's a .... well you all know by now Yeah....the guy is fluent in three languages (he used all of them in this movie) while being able to mimick Italian speech and yet can come off as a big worm who whatever he got coming to him, was too good. Hell, its hard for people to speak two languages, but three is near impossible.

There will be no Point Break bashing! If I were a moderator, it would be a bannable offense... Hear, hear to that. Point Break rules. I am more then happy that Bigelow has finally received the recognition that she deserves, that and boy am I glad Avatar didn't win.

But the difference was David Lynch was already established with The Elephant Man and Eraserhead. I'm not sure about Michael Mann but I know he was more of a producer before becoming a big time director I think. It was James Cameron film debut. Having one crappy film for your resume and no great shorts is basically a career killer. A film debut by Alan Smithee would of made it worse. He would of probably had to make 1-3 lower budgeted films to even get his desired budget to make Terminator and Terminator was pretty low budgeted.

What a disaster.
Oh, not who won. I'm happy for Hurt Locker, but the show itself was just abysmal. Fifteen minutes in and I was calling it the worst Oscars I'd ever seen and I've been watching FOREVER.
Biggest surprise of the night for me was the composer for Lost getting an Oscar for Up. Really happy about that one. Also nice to see Up score best animated picture.
I must have been thinking crazy thoughts because, given the evening it had had so far, I was thinking Gabrielle had a chance to upset Bullock for best actress, how wrong I was.
Oh and the winner for biggest applause at the In Memorium montage was Roy E. Disney. Loudest applause I heard of them all anyway. My mom wondered aloud why Farrah Fawcett wasn't included if Brittney Murphy was. For me, I was just pleased MJ made the cut.
Sorry, Oscars, better luck next year because this? Not so good.

I love the fact that the best actress award had what basically amounted to a 20 minute love fest for the introductions, then got a full introduction, but the best picture just got the winner. Awesome planning there Oscars.

Who the hell was that female announcer too? Ah, revenge Cameron. Do you feel it? No. He'll just go roll around in his Ducktales style money vat with all the other gold statues he has. ;D

I didn't get to see and can't be arsed to read through this but I'm glad Kathryn Bigelow finally got an Oscar. She's made some awesome movies over the years but they seem terribly underappreciated. Good on her for finally getting Oscar recognition. PS Near Dark is a kick ass movie. PPS So is Point Break.

He would of probably had to make 1-3 lower budgeted films to even get his desired budget to make Terminator and Terminator was pretty low budgeted. That relies on the assumption that having his name attached to Piranha 2 was not only a credit to his career, but his big break. It wasn't. He got to direct Terminator because he wrote it and shipped it around until he found someone willing to take a chance. It was working with Corman's studios that helped, yes, but removing his name from Piranha 2 wouldn't have meant anything. Not to mention the fact that the studio thought Terminator wouldn't be in theaters for more than a week, so it's not like they were looking for a big name to get behind it. For all we know, the fact that he directed Piranha 2 detracted certain studios for hiring him.

So, how long until we start seeing ads on TV for the Hurt Locker DVD/Blu-ray with the added line of, "Winner of six Academy Awards including Best Director and Best Picture."?
You know they always put out ads for either the majority award winner or the winner of Best Picture(which usually also has the Best Director award) shortly after the Academy Awards.

They need to scrap the introductions for the actors & actresses. The show already went on forever and those made it longer. Also, I am thrilled that Avatar didn't win anything important.

They do that for every movie though. That was the point in upping the nominations to 10, as an advertising gimmick.

I hope I'm not the only who thinks Sherlock Holmes got screwed over twice!!!!! Well mostly for Art Direction and Up was the only other film in that category that had a great original soundtrack. I haven't seen Fantastic Mr. Fox as well.
