Why must he always go over everyone? I think it's completely ridiculous. He's past his prime. Hang it up, Rey. It's time to put others over, now.

You can trade the title name for: Triple H,Cena,Batista,Undertaker
And it would also work

When did 35 years old make you past your prime? He's only four years older than Punk is. If that's so, Punk better enjoy his moment in the spotlight, because in fours years, he'll be past his prime.

Rey is passed his prime. Your prime isn't always related to age. It's just when your ablities take a noticable downturn. Mysterio when he first came into the WWE and the Rey now. There is a pretty good size differnce. Rey having like five knee surgeries on the same knee is going to effect your ablities. More so when your offence like Rey is mostly speed and the use of your legs.

He doesn't always come out on top. Can't say he fared well in the early days of his Batista feud, where he got demolished.

I'm not a Mysterio fan either, but I wasn't surprised that Punk lost to him. Plus, Punk got his heat back by beating him down post-match anyway.

Rey rarely went over opponents even he was world champion. How many times Mark Henry and the Great Khali squashed him while he was champ? Mysterio might had be the worst booked world champion since Samoa Joe and Sheamus. Rey in the twilight of his career due to injuries like Taker and HBK. But just like them he can still go in the ring when necessary.

It wasn't like he destroyed Punk. Rey got the better of him after a quick reversal and managed to squeak out a victory. Like someone else had said, the post match stuff really put Punk over anyway.
Also, I still really enjoy Rey anyway. He had his best year in quite some time in 2009, I hope he keeps it up.

He doesn't always come out on top. Can't say he fared well in the early days of his Batista feud, where he got demolished. Personally, I agree on the grounds that Mike Knox has jobbed to him. Of course, Mike Knox would probably be jobbed to a sack of potatoes if they were going to push that, so that complaint is invalid. Listen, in wrestling, age is actually irrelevant: it's ability. If you are on who relies on a basis for your moveset, such as Mysterio's speed and ability to move around, all those knee surgeries do take that away.

What's the big deal? Rey always makes others look good and brings out the best in them. See Dolph Ziggler, John Morrison, Chavo Guerrero, Chris Jericho and even Punk himself. He always sells AFTER the match and barely ever botches and he does highflying moves.
Unlike Kofi Kingston, who is pretty much a jumping botch machine nowadays. And John Cena who completely forgets that his arm or leg was worked on for... I don't know, the past 20 minutes as soon as the match ends. Don't forget that superman recovery. Rey Mysterio is the LAST person who needs to put anybody over, when John Cena and Triple H do their bit, then you can come and call 619.

Mysterio has slowed down a bit since his WCW days but overall I think he coudl still go for a few more years. Ever since he started bouncing off the middle rope I think it has made more of his spots look way better.

He's grandfathered in for these wins. Looks more like a grandson, but he's been around for awhile, so he gets to win stuff like this.

Everybody over 180 pounds has JOBBED to Rey. He is a lightweight, and they keep pushing him. There is no way he could beat Big Show, Batista, Kane, or any other big wrestler. It's just JOB CITY, and we are supposed to fall for this David beats Goliath over and over again. It's gotten to the point where it's so ridiculous I just change the channel. I've been 619ed to Death! Michael Hayes is a jerk!

Rey still puts on great matches with almost everyone, and can even make Batista look good. I hardly think anything he does is BS. You're acting like he's Cena, and no sells everything.

You know what? I actually prefer Rey now than i did when he was having his so-called best matches of his career in WCW. It's probably because im not a great fan of the Lucha Libre style, but i prefer that he now has to use more psychology instead of like a million frankensteiners in a match. He can still call on them when necessary, but he doesn't have to rely on them, which IMO is the mark of a good wrestler.
And sticking to the thread subject, i had no problems with him going over Punk last night- it wasn't like it was a squash or anything, and Punk got his heat back straight away- no harm, no foul.

Exactly. People are acting like it was a 3 minute squash, when it was actually a solid back and forth match.

Rey's popularity has usually declined whenever he is seriously going over top guys who are way bigger than him. His initial WCW popularity crashed once he went over Nash, Bigelow, etc. Of course he also lost his mask and joined the No Limit Soldiers during that era, which didn't help.
My problems with Rey are mainly the way his character is portrayed on TV. Why exactly should anyone cheer for this guy? The David/Goliath crap over and over? Bah. Here's a guy who used his dead best friend to get himself over as a main eventer, used his son in a storyline, and so on. He's a sleaze and anyone over the age of 12 would know it.
As far as Punk goes, I think Michael Hayes books him in a way similar to the way the PS Hayes in the Freebirds used to be booked, as a charismatic heel that loses a ton and gets his heat back. The only worry is that this isn't Texas circa 1983 and Punk can't just take his act to the WWF, AWA, UWF, etc.

I see Rey has gotton the Jeff Hardy, Cena, Undertaker treatment now.
Rey is Meh now but one of the most exciting westlers while in WCW. Isn't like punk lost to Slam Master J.

Past your prime is about 55 in wrestling these days right? lol. 35 seems young compared to alot of wrestlers.
