Exactly. I also want to clarify that it's not because he went over CM Punk. The David/Goliath scenario is very stale and I just wish he'd do something... anything else. His character and moveset are beyond stale. Yanno, that's actually a good point. Outside of whenever he went after the Cruiserweight belt and that feud with Chavo in 2006, how many of Rey's feuds WEREN'T focused around that whole "big guy/little guy" scenario? Batista one was kind of based around the two not being Friends maybe.

I always love how 'smart fans' still manage to get all upset when their favourites lose, or people they don't like win. No kidding. Sometimes I feel the need to remind people that it's just a bunch of fictional characters in a tv show; none of its real, so there's no need to get as upset as some of the people in this thread appear to be.

Outside of whenever he went after the Cruiserweight belt and that feud with Chavo in 2006, how many of Rey's feuds WEREN'T focused around that whole "big guy/little guy" scenario? Batista was a feud focussed not really on his size. Batista was made to look like he should be able to destroy Rey, but the feud didn't start off with a random monster attacking Rey just because he could. Jericho had a good feud with Rey based around the heritage of his mask, and Ziggler was doing well against Rey and it wasn't about size. When they actually take the time to plan a story for Rey, it's quite decent. It's just that he hasn't really got any character development to speak of - except in the Jericho feud (Jericho just knows how to get deep with his feuds). Against Ziggler it wasn't really about anything, against Batista he just started acting like a bit of a brat, and against Taker it was typical underdog fare. Every week he will be the underdog, and that gets annoying. I'm not quite sure what they could do to freshen him up without losing his appeal to his core audience though, it's a toughy.

Thread title reminded me of one of the PPV openings in 98 (Judgement day maybe?), where it played Vince's words to Austin over and over again

Other than the Ziggler, how many people has Rey actually buried? Does anyone seriously think Punk is gonna lose his spot because of Rey?

As far as going over guys like Punk and Jericho or Edge or similar sized wrestlers, that's fine.
As far as going over bigger guys with a foreign object or the occasional fluke win, again that's cool.
I, however, do agree Rey has had more than one match where he beats a noticeably larger opponent with a ridiculous set up or OMG SURPRISE move.
As far as his feud with Batista, it was pretty mbad to me. Batista got in a few beat downs here and there, but basically Rey always managed to get the better of him to make him look foolish. I'm not a big Batista fan but Dave looked really ineffectual against Rey for the bulk of the feud, I'm glad they moved on from it as it wasn't doing much for Dave's heel turn. Granted it does seem nowadays that everyone besides Randy Orton are wussy heels.

He's passed his prime. Plus, you have to suspend disbelief every time he goes over someone over 6'0" tall.

Isn't it our job as wrestling fans to suspend disbelief? As it was said before, these are fictional characters on a scripted TV show. When Jack Bauer gets captured by the Russians I don't get all up in arms. I accept it as a small part in the progression of a larger story.

Yeah but Jack Bauer gets his ass kicked and barely manages to even obtain what you'd call a victory most of the time, christ his wife gets killed and he was a heroin addict. Rey on the other hand has way too many "feel good" wins, and they have started to come off cheesey.

I will never fully understand why Rey Mysterio is arguably the most despised wrestler on these boards (right behind Hornswoggle, it seems...)
The only thing I really dislike about him is how he tries to heel it up, like he's Eddie Guerrero. Bottom line is, Rey can't get away with the overtly heelish antics, period.
