He's extremely popular with the casual fans, and they want to see him win. In turn, they buy his merchandise. The WWE will always do what's best for their bottom line.

At one point I would've agreed that Mysterio is done, but recent matches with Jericho, Ziggler, and Morrison have changed my mind. He can still have a great match when they don't rely on the tired David vs. Goliath theme.

I cant believe some of the stick Rey gets. He had one of his best years in the ring last year, wrestling top notch matches with Jericho, Morrison, and Ziggler. It annoys me when the guy gets booed, he has dedicated so much to the wrestling business. Numerous knee operations and he still goes out there and puts on quality wrestling matches.

Last year was his best year in ages, so injuries aren't really a factor in his performances.
I can see why people find him annoying though. He just has an entirely predictable character that can never change. He is always, without question, the underdog, the biggest little man etc. That gets tiresome. His matches are always entertaining from a technical standpoint, and the casuals will love him for it.
He was at his most entertaining to me in his feud with Jericho. It wasn't about him being the underdog there, it was about him fighting for the respect of his heritage. He was also awesome in last year's chamber, but as I said the reason he is booed IMO is because he is too predictable, not because he isn't technically entertaining.

I have no interest in seeing him in the main event, It'd be nice if they brought back the Cruiserweight strap for the smaller guys.

I think a very good case could be made that Rey Mysterio is among the most talented wrestlers who's been employed by the WWE/F at any time in the last ~25 years. At least.

I don't get why people can't buy him as a legit threat against bigger guys. In REAL fighting such as MMA size doesn't really matter at all.
Sure they do the David and Goliath thing with him but that is because it works. People love underdogs. Shawn Michaels practically made a whole career out of being the underdog in the main event so why can't Rey Mysterio? Because he is 6 inches shorter?

I'd say it's less about his size, and centers more on the nature of his finisher. I like Rey. Do I think he's still in his prime? No. Do I think he should be in the main event scene? No, only because his promo ability doesn't really put him up there. But even I can't take the 619 seriously most of the time, especially when his opponent has to position themselves to take it, or they languish on the middle rope for 4-5 seconds. Let Rey use the West Coast Pop again, and I would be just fine. And yes, a thread like this tends to pop up every time Punk loses a match. Let's not forget, he's still in the Chamber match, and he did get his heat back immediately after the match. As a matter of fact, I missed the match, but they made sure to replay SES demolishing Rey post-match. Why? Because THAT was what you were supposed to remember out of that encounter.

If he'd gone over somebody not named CM Punk, this thread wouldn't be here. Sad but true. I do agree with this.

Honestly, it's like whenever Punk loses in any kind of fashion, it's either he's being buried or the guy who beat him is hogging the spotlight for themselves.
It was a good back and forth match, Rey got the surprise win, and the SES beat down Rey afterwards. No one loses anything.
But I do agree that Rey's time is closing in. After all of those knee surgeries, he hasn't been the same guy in the ring.

Rey Mysterio is the Robin Williams of WWE - he is exactly as good as who he is working with.

What bugs me is people who complain about Mysterio winning constantly, complain about Bourne jobbing constantly.

What bugs me is people who complain about Mysterio winning constantly, complain about Bourne jobbing constantly. Thats a good point. Like when people find Ortons Promo's boring and dull because of the manner in which he gives it, Yet Jericho promo's are asesome. They both give the same types of promos (except jerichos big words).

Because they are real fighters. WWE shows are about a fake sport, with plastic rules, and obvious flaws that only work because the audience purposely suspends their disbelief. The WWE does NOT have weight classes because they want to have people like Rey and Bourne win sometimes. They have a belt title called "heavyweight" ONLY to support the lineage of that belt title, but it might as well be called the "World Smackdown Championship".

I'll agree that Rey winning quite often does get irritating, but what irritates me far more about Mysterio is that he's basically a heel but for some reason we're supposed to accept him as a face. He spent the 2006 Royal Rumble hugging the bottom turnbuckle like a chickenshit heel, spent the later part of the year feuding with Vickie and Chavo Guerrero because they were upset that he was using Eddie's name to get himself over (which even from a kayfabe standpoint was true), and most recently spent weeks screwing Batista out of title matches, including pulling a referee out of the ring when Batista was about to win his Beat the Clock match. Rey is a little asshole.
