There was nothing wrong with Survivor Series. The problem was that they started building the PPV around random title matches instead of the elimination tags that people initially cared about. Ideally the show would be nothing but teams and maybe 1 main event for a title with a decent storyline behind it.

Worth noting that, with 283,000 buys, the Hell In A Cell PPV was the fourth highest grossing PPV this year for them. Maybe they'll start building that up as a bigger card from now on. That's assuming making a regular PPV out of a match as speical as HIAC doesn't devalue it.

The oversaturation of PPVs has made the "Big 4" irrelevant. I mean, what's the point in hyping the hell out of Survivor Series, when you know that TLC will be coming afterwords? I think that some people get a little burned out by the sheer number, as well as the price (now, I think some people pitch in the pay for 'em). This can be fixed: first, get rid of the Elimination Chamber PPV. That'll give you 2 months to hype WrestleMania, and since it's the most expensive PPV, you'll get a lot out of it. Only get rid of the Elimination Chamber. In my opinion WWE should only have a PPV every other month so there can be a nice build up to the PPV.

Just as Hell in the Cell is built around that match. If after this year HIAC started having no Cell matches at all some years, or mostly random Cell matches that have nothing to do with the main programs or titles the same thing would occur. Thats why I dont see a point in changing the PPV. Why not stick with the history of the name if you can make the PPV whatever concept you want? Survivor Series stopped being Survivor Series a long time ago. Its not much of a concern to me though, WWE have crapped all over so many things in the past few years that I wouldn't even care if they renamed Wrestlemania at this point. They have lost the plot.

This is how I would save Survivor Series (on the 0.005% chance Vince is reading this.)
1. Choose 6 top (non-champion) superstars as captains. They should be arch-rivals.
2. Rather than assign them partners, have the captains pick their partners in a draft. This would create a lot of interest in the teams, especially if a face picks a heel or vice versa.
3. The arch-rivals' teams face each other in a 5 on 5 elimination match.
4. The survivors in each match return for a battle royal at the end of the night.
5. The winner of the battle royal faces his brand's champion at the next PPV.
What do you think?

I think the real problem is they have no idea how to build Survivor Series anymore.

I think the real problem is they have no idea how to build Survivor Series anymore. Yep. There were PPV's before and after it that were built up as much more important than 'Series. I am pissed by the news, but not surprised, especially given the gimmick trend of the PPV's.

R.I.P. to "The Thanksgiving Night Tradition"
The longtime fan in me is disappointed, but I can see why WWE did it. Last year was the first time I didn't order Survivor Series, mostly because the card didn't seem all that special. Like others have said, WWE has deviated so far from the original concept, the name has no meaning.
Oh well, there's always VHS if I need a Series fix.

I think the real problem is they have no idea how to build Survivor Series anymore. Seriously, why is it Survivor Series fault that Steph has all the creativity of a box turtle? Survivor Series isn't the problem, the uninspired card they had at Survivor Series is the problem. But if they are going to get rid of Survivor Seres, fine. Just don't have a November PPV. Or December for that matter. It's the holiday season and people save their money. I don't recall anything happening at the December ppv other than December to Dismember being the worst ppv of all time. 8 pay per view's a year should be fine. However, I'm sure that even with an all time low buy rate, they still made money on last years Survivor Series. until they lose serious money on ppv, we are going to get 14 a year.

They've priced themselves outta me ever buying a ppv again that I can see. Forty five dollars ain't happening, unless I get like five or six people together.
Sad to see its one o' the big four that's going though

Thats why I dont see a point in changing the PPV. Why not stick with the history of the name if you can make the PPV whatever concept you want? Survivor Series stopped being Survivor Series a long time ago. That last sentence is basically what I came in here to say. PPVs are fun when there is a theme that they stick to like The Royal Rumble. The best Survivor Series event was probably the one in I think 1991 that was all team matches and ended in the Ultimate match of Survival. They seemed to finally perfect the Survivor Series concept at that event but then inexplicably started phasing out the team competition aspect more and more each year to follow. While I would like to seem them try a classic Survivor Series, I hope that when creating new PPVs they continue to do ones with a theme. Taking a gimmick match that has already existed for years like Hell In A Cell and building a PPV around it isn't very creative, but they have the right idea as far as building the PPV around a distinctive event and therefore providing a reason to buy. As a fan, I prefer this approach to abstract concepts like "Vengeance".

I don't recall anything happening at the December ppv See, I don't even remember that. Although I remember Survivor Series 88 to 97 by heart. And Jeff winning the championship only happened last year. Feels like a million years ago now.

So long, Survivor Series.
They should replace it with War Games.

They can Survivor Series, they lose my November PPV business. Survivor Series was a staple of my childhood and I WILL NOT tolerate a replacement! I agree. Survivor Series was a pillar of the WWE's PPV business. It has been a part of WWE as long as I have been a fan(Since the early 80s). It has great name recognition. I can't imagine some lame new PPV concept like Battle Brawl doing better. I think the problem lies in the way WWE has booked it. Having Bragging Rights right before it diluted the team concept. Also, having a feud between DX and Cena centering on Hornswoggle didn't spell buy rates. WWE needs to bring back the original Survivor Series formula. Cool team names, professional team photos, and have the teams be interviewed together and team members show up when one of their guys wrestle the weeks leading into the Series.

Survivor Series is generally one of the stronger ppv's of the year, even in the WWE's down years.
If they went entirely to the team format, including having the champions as team captains instead of defending the belts (thus allowing more time to build up title feuds than 4-5 weeks), do 4-man teams instead of 5, and hype the card well in advance instead of announcing matches the week before the show, fans will be interested.
Where's the outrage? Anyone interested in organizing a petition to WWE to save the second-longest-running ppv in WWE history? Don't let a storied event fall to laziness and Vince McMahon's "progress."

I said it last year, and I'm going to say it again - Maybe Survivor Series would have done better had they not just done the Survivor Series gimmick one month earlier at Bragging Rights.
