I was watching Alfred Hitchcock's "Rebecca" tonight, the only film of his to win Best Picture. I found it simply interminable. It took about an hour to actually get into the plot of the movie, and only the last 10 minutes or so had any spice to it. So disappointed.
So that inspired this thread. Which classic movies have you watched and been completely underwhelmed or unimpressed by? It would also be groovy if you listed a few reasons.

From Here to Eternity, despite being a Best Picture, is as stale, unrealistic, and "Old Hollywoodish" as war movies come. Strange because there were plenty of other war films from the same time period that are far superior (Stalag 17, Paths of Glory, A Walk in the Sun) that hold up far better, yet it was, and still is, Eternity that gets the lions' share of critical attention. I think it was considered "edgy" at the time because it was the most brutal film to portray a romantic relationship and had an extremely unflattering portrayal of the military before 'Nam, but these themes have been done so much more in-depth by more recent films that Eternity seems like a very dated and imperfect rendition of the themes by comparison.
Also, something always seemed..."off" to me about Disney's version of Robin Hood. Maybe it's because I saw the Errol Flynn version first and got spoiled, maybe it's because I always considered it derivative of The Jungle Book (even when I was 6, lon before I found out Disney recycled large chunks of animation to reuse from The Jungle Book in Robin Hood!), maybe because I liked Land Before Time better, but something always rubbed me the wrong way about it.

Pretty much everything Stanley Kubrick ever directed. I've seen six or seven of his films, and they just aren't my cup of tea. Especially A Clockwork Orange.

DRACULA (the 1931 version with Bela Lugosi) - Lugosi is certainly awesome, but none of the rest of the actors are really any good. And Browning's direction of the camera is far too static and boring.

Two film I technically don't dislike, but don't enjoy as much as others.
-Citizen Kane. From a pure filming standpoint, its a masterpiece, certainly worthy of being seen by any film student. As a story? Eh, I don't find Charles Foster Kane quite as interesting as the film and the critics believe him to be. Great film to analyze in method, lesser film to watch to see engaging characters.
-Wizard of Oz. Someone else noted this film as well, and I think I just find it too cheesy and saccharine to really get into at any point. Dorothy's too sugary, the Wicked Witch too over the top, and the respective friends (Scarecrow Tin Woodsmen, and Lion) just hammy and goofy to enjoy. Return to Oz gets me into the story much better and has me caring far more about Dorothy's fate.

It's not really old but I can't stand Scarface. I don't mind f*** being used in movies or in real life, but Scarface takes it WAAAAAAY TO FAR. Seriously I had to shut the movie off, I couldn't take any more.

Seriously I had to shut the movie off, I couldn't take any more. I have friends that felt that way about PULP FICTION. They felt that the language in that movie was just totally overboard, especially use of the n-word and f-word.

2001: A Space Odyssey. I don't think I was ever as bored as I was watching that movie.

It's not a classic, but it did get an Oscar: Crash couldn't tie Brokeback's shoes.

Kubricks rendition of "The Shining" was too far astray from the original novel for my liking and I was not a fan of Pirates or Lord of the Rings...then again I enjoyed Jar Jar so what the hell do I know

Of the modern classics. Moulin Rouge
Of the real classics, Gone With the Wind. I just can't stand anything about this. While watching this I just want to build a time machine and go back in time and napalm the entire confederacy.
Also as beautiful as she was, any film with Marilyn Monroe in it is only as good as the rest of the cast.
