From PW Insider: Say goodbye to the six-sided ring. TNA has a traditional four-sided ring set up in the Impact Zone for tonight's Genesis PPV.
TNA had been using the six-sided ring since debuting at Universal Studios in May 2004 for their first Impact taping.I thought the six sided ring was something that gave TNA its uniqueness, but I guess the new bosses hated it so it had to go.

It took me a while to get used to looking at the six-sided ring and although I didn't mind it, I don't think it really differentiated TNA.
Sorta glad to see them return to a four sided ring. If they don't sell it to AAA or whoever uses it in Mexico, I wouldn't mind seeing it return for a World X Cup or something.

And it all goes downhill from here.

Eh, no biggie. I seriously doubt it will anger anyone to the point of not watching.
The only bad thing is the monetary costs of getting a new ring, a new steel cage and such. Those things aren't cheap.

Edit: I wonder how many not used to the four sided ring botches this will create

hopefully they pushed back the guardrails also because those things are way too close to the ring.

I never really noticed the ring after the first few times, so I don't think it will be a big deal.

I realy dont mind. When you see new guys come in to TNA they look awkward taking and irish whip into the ropes. The ropes on the thing are just to damn tight. When I was watching the MCMG vs Young Bucks last night, when the bucks were taking irish whips or bouncing off the ropes they just rubbed against them, and they just looked uncomfortable working with the ring.

I agree with people who say it is nothing but a simple cosmetic change, but at the same time slowly they keep changing the product more and more where it wasn't needed and it just seems to be setting a bad trend.

I don't know. It really doesn't hurt much, but i don't see how it helps either. Does a 4-sided ring make the wrestling better? No, IMO. Have they actually used the 6-sided ring uniquelly (not a word)? No.

The 6 sided right was weird at first but it grew on me. I really wish they would have just made the ring a little bit bigger as I thought it was rather small than to just switch to 4 sides.

Stupid move. They actually had a cool gimmick with the 6-sided ring (i.e. Six Sides of Steel). This is just moronic to me. Seriously. They could have made the ring bigger but to entirely replace it and go back to the four sides is just...I just think it's really dumb.
Hopefully, it won't make much difference in the long run, but it just reeks of Hogan's sweaty, orange paws.

They want the attention to be on what and who is in the ring, rather than the shape of it.

It's not a big deal to me, but I wouldn't mind seeing the 6 Sided Ring reappear every now and then for gimmick matches

Anything that could lead to them branding themselves as an alternative helps. This does not.

Sure, the 6-sided ring differentiates TNA from its competition, but does it really differentiate it for the better? Probably not...if anything, it's just another component of TNA's broadcasts that make it look more gimmicky than the WWE or ROH.
If you want to pose as an alternative to the other guys, do it through better in-ring action and more compelling storylines. I don't see people complaining on the WWE board about the shape of the ring; they complain about Vince McMahon's campy comedy. I agree with the other poster that TNA should focus on the in-ring product and quit focusing on all the other garbage they do to try and set TNA apart.
Now if they would only quit switching camera angles 10,000 times during a single match I could actually sit through one without getting a headache.
