Well, May is over, so I guess David Ortiz is taking the month off again.

In the perfect game rematch, Halladay & Johnson are dealing right now.

Jon Niese throws a complete game one hitter for the Mets. Only hit was a double in the 3rd inning, and he didn't walk a batter.
I think they said that's the 34th one hitter in Mets' history (not sure if that's counting Bobby Jone's 1 hitter to clinch the NLDS against the Giants in 2000).
Niese is going to have his up's and down's as a rookie, but he's looking sharper and sharper already.
Niese, Davis, Pelfrey...yeah, terrible farm system the Mets have there.

The Mets earn a split of the DH & a series win over San Diego with a 3-0 win. They embark on a 9-game road trip which will cover Baltimore, Cleveland, & the Yankees. Jose Reyes had 3 hits for the offense. And, Ruben Tejada grounded into a triple play. That's all irrelevant because... Jon Niese took the mound tonight & was amazing. Chris Denorfia was the only person who stood in the way of a possible perfect game opportunity as he was the only batter to get a hit. Jon's line tonight: 9 IP, 1 hit, 0 BB, 6 Ks, 9 swinging strikes, 14:6 GB:FB on 108 pitches, 76-32. This is the AB against Adrian Gonzalez in the 7th inning. The pitch he got A-Gon on was a cutter tailing away. The cutter was his best pitch tonight, as he got strikes 26 times when he threw it(33 total). He used it to pound RH-batters inside, which led to easy groundouts. Despite Met management f***-ups & a bad manager, the Mets are tied with Philadelphia in the division, 2.5 GB of Atlanta. It doesn't really much at this point, but it's interesting nonetheless. Seeing as how players that have come up from the Met farm system have been key contributors(Reyes, Wright, Pelfrey, Niese, Ike, Tejada) to theis team's success, I would hope Omar Minaya takes that into consideration & doesn't do something dumb like emptying your farm system for a two month rental.

I love it that our prospects have been doing well(Mejia's been acceptable for a reliever, but that's a battle I'll fight another day). Hopefully, this breaks "The Mets have no farm system!! It stinks!!!" crap I hear on the radio & see in the newspapers.

Cubs lose a frustrating one today in 10 innings. Xavier Nady continues to come alive offensively. But irony of ironies, the Cubs lose when Nady (playing first base today) airmailed a throw to third base, allowing Carlos Gomez to score the winning run from first base on what had been a 5-3 sacrifice bunt.
The Cubs are now 4-10 in Ryan Dempster starts (0-5 in his no decisions).

What a non story. Also: "Another bright side? There was finally someone at that park less talented than Oliver Perez" NO ONE lacks talent as much as Oliver Perez.

Dude, Chicago North Siders know all about the Billy Goat's Curse. It haunts our dreams like a damned white whale. Trust me. When you're born into a Cubs family, the first thing they do is spank you on the ass and tell you the story of "the curse"

TBS will carry the Indians vs. Nationals game on Sunday rather than Phillies-Red Sox. Can't wait to see Strasburg make the Indians look like little league players. ;D Sucks that I'll have to mute most of the game, TBS announcing is atrociously dull. At least I can laugh at the FOX/ESPN commentator stupidity.

At least I can laugh at the FOX/ESPN commentator stupidity. Ron Darling makes the broadcast worthwhile; he's absolutely one of the best analysts in MLB right now. And Carey isn't there anymore, so it's not as boring as it used to be. ESPN is always fun and hilarious to listen to (I like to call it "The Joe Morgan Show") in all it's stupidity and horrible-ness, but the Buck/McCarver duo on FOX usually just makes me angry. You can tell that neither of them want to be there anymore, and they sucked even when they did.
