I'm not to into today's rap scenes so there probably are much worse than my pick, but still. I think 50 Cent has to be up there. He's just so goddamn monotone in his songs. While maybe not the worst he's probably the rapper who has gained the most fame with the least amount of skills.

Isn't Puff Daddy/P-Diddy recognised as being a pretty terrible rapper?

I really, really, really don't get the people who say 50 Cent. He's one of the best hook writers in the industry. He's got a unique enough style and flow and his lines actually have some decent punch... even if the rumors are they are ghost-written.
I gotta go with Ja Rule. Dude rode coattails CONSISTENTLY throughout his career. From Jay-Z's to Ashanti to others... Seriously, look at how many singles he's released that relied on guests, it's absurd. Dude got into acting and well... the less said about that the better. And he relies on that ridiculous "gangsta" voice.

It's hilarious how as soon as I read this, a video to one of his newest songs (?) came on. EDIT: Ok, it's called "Pretty Boy Swag", and that's ALL he says in the song. I'm not even kidding.

This for me. The amount of rap I like is minuscule compared to the amount I don't, but this guy seems particularly bad.

Kanye
If he ever writes a song without sampling, I will change my stance.

His voice is so grating and so forced.

I'm gonna have to say DMX. At least Souljah Boy had one catchy song. I can't remember one blasted DMX song to save my life.

Party Up In Here Get It On The Floor Don't You Ever Good Girls Bad Guys (with Eve) The Ruff Ryders Anthem I'll agree, DMX has somewhat of a "niche" style, but he's released quite a few great songs and can hold his own with guests or as one himself, as well.

Lil Wayne. His "rapping" is mumbled at best, and his songs just aren't catchy to me at all.
I see nothing about him that's redeemable at all.

I'll second Souljah Boy, since he just repeats the same words over and over again.

And he relies on that ridiculous "gangsta" voice. Can't say I agree with you on this one. Ja had an exceptional run of success between 1999-2003 after he stepped out the shadow of the original Murder Inc. (Jay-Z, DMX, and Ja). In fact, the only thing that derailed his career was 50 Cent and his constant claiming that Ja sung more than he rapped. And what does 50 do after their beef? He starts doing the same thing. Never mind the fact that Ja had a far more superior flow and subject material than 50 had even when during the times he was singing. In fact, 50 has gotten persistently worse as a rapper over the last seven years that perhaps it's time to put down the mic and pick up the movie scripts, because he clearly doesn't have it as a mainstream rapper anymore.

Maybe because when 50 Cent is actually rapping, he sounds like he has down syndrome? Exactly, even if he could come up with well written hooks, which is possible he's looked at as a performer first. And in that capacity he fails...epically. Although I forgot about Soulja Boy. But at least with Soulja Boy no one really takes him seriously and his first big song was fun in a so bad its good kind of way. Also, he had that killer feud with Ice Tea where the phrase "eat a dick" was said more than the word "boner" in that one issue of Batman.

Kanye If he ever writes a song without sampling, I will change my stance. Personally I don't see anything wrong with sampling, as long as it's used well. I think he uses it really well, and has a great flow. My vote would probably have to go to Soulja Boy as well. Lil Wayne is lazy, but he actually has talent when he feels like using it.

I'm gonna have to say DMX. At least Souljah Boy had one catchy song. I can't remember one blasted DMX song to save my life. BLASPHEMY!!! lol. To each their own obviously, but X is one of my fave rappers of all time. And honestly, outside of Jay-Z and Eminem, theres not too many mainstream rappers out there that I think are worth a damn (least off the top of my head...I'm sure someone will say one that I forgot). -Dont get me started on Soulja Boy -Lil Wayne is god-awful horrid...how everyone thinks he's the next big thing is beyond me -Snoop is a shell of his former self. Tried (being the operative word) to listen to his new CD...yyyaaaa -I've never liked 50. He has some catchy songs and the hook for Disco Inferno is one of my faves, but I've always HATED his "flow" He is the epitome of people saying all rappers do is talk. His beats are amazing, but I think they're mostly Dre and Em on the boards, so that explains a lot.
