I'm pretty f***ing happy about this. Jack Swagger is amazing in the ring and pretty great on the mic, lisp or not. This is wonderful news.

I really liked him in that match he had against Cena on the Little People's Court Raw, which was when I first saw him. I can't quite reconcile him having a title with the pre-Rumble "All American American Challenge" Santino segments, though. I wish those did not define his character for me.

Wow quicker than I thought. Ok, here's all I want to know. For those of you who try to avoid spoilers... Were you able to navigate through the week without finding this one out, and if so how? You know I've been out of the IWC for awhile. I love this site, but I really haven't been on the message board in awhile. I watched my DVR of Smackdown tonight and was shocked and amazed. Good stuff. It's not hard to ignore if you don't try, I'm not sure if I can put it better or worse than that, but I've also got a few beers in me.

Oh and I don't mean to double post, but I've thought he was the next Angle for awhile. He doesn't have the true interview skills yet, but he can rile up a crowd without much effort. I think he'll do very well as champ.

I liked his address at the end of the show but overall was not a fan of SRS Swagger. I thought Swagger worked best as a cocky jock heel. But the jurys still out, we'll see. Thoughout that end promo, I could focus on nothing else but his lisp. I think that may be partly why he's "more serious" and talks slower.. That's honestly one of my biggest hangups with the guy too. There's lisping....and then there's Sylvester the Cat meets Daffy Duck in Jack Swagger. I mean, his promo on Monday.....YEEERGHHH. "You THHHH-mell that? THHH-mellTHHH like Money in the Bank....." ATROCIOUS. Just absolutely hideous. If anything, as I have said before, keep the guy silent, but violent. I've got NO issues at all with his ringwork...the guy COULD be an absolute force if they'd let him run with a Benoit-like, superserious submission artist character that doesn't NEED to wow you with mic work or crack jokes to get under your skin. He'll just break your legs, and beat the hell out of you. I'd dig it if they let him use a Tazmission for a finisher.

I didn't read spoilers. I never find out about what is going to happen on Smackdown. Even when I'm going to miss it and not be able to tape it, I'll wait until after it airs to find results. I'm definitely checking out the WWE Current section less recently because I want to watch NXT on Hulu on Thursdays as if it's live, too, so basically my entire viewing week is based on avoiding spoilers. It's not something I even have to do consciously. And I am 100% behind the All American American World Heavyweight American Champion. This should be fun with Edge and Jericho fighting for the right to face him. And on Smackdown, Swagger looks really imposing: he's a full freaking head taller than Jericho. Shelton might be getting a push, too, even if it's an upper-midcard thing after Swagger loses [if he does]. This could be a pretty darn good spring for Smackdown. If nothing else, the quality of wrestling (Edge/Jericho, Punk/Mysterio, Swagger, Shelton, Hart Dynasty, Kane and Hardy being prepped to build Drew and...someone). Maybe this will work well, like last year, except no one can find the channel and the time slot still sucks.

The All-American American AMERICAN champion!
I love this. Swagger's been a highlight for me ever since he came to the E. His run as ECW champ was great, and despite the crap he went through on Raw, he still was a highlight to me. His match against Cena a while ago was amazing, and now that he's champ, he'll be going up against top talent and proving himself against other top talent in the company.
I seriously hope that they treat this run with seriousness, rather than give him the Sheamus run. If they do this right, they have a top heel on their hands, which they'll need in the not to distant future.
And I want my cocky Swagger back. You don't have a last name like Swagger and be super SRS.

his attire makes me even more sure that they want him to be the next kurt angle I don't like him with the title but for selfish reasons though him being champ makes about as much sense as sheamus being champ. wonder who he is going to transition the title to.

His attire tells me that he doesn't do enough cardio and can't lose the damn paunch. I shouldn't care (he initially went to OU as a lineman, no?). But it just stands out compared to the other characters treated as elite athletes as opposed to elite Superstare (eg, Hardy and Kane and Taker on different parts of the latter spectrum).

That quick little segment he had backstage with Shelton REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY made me want them to have a feud over the world title at some point in the near future.

Total waste in my opinion. Swagger's still the guy jobbing to MVP and in a way Santino a month ago. He'll be back down to nothing in a month. Should've given it to Christian and let him and Edge/Christian have a great feud with a lot of backstory for the next few months. Of course all the WWE writers probably haven't been watching long enough for them to know about all that.

The only real wrestling sites I go on are this one, WWE and TNA (just got tired of wrestlezone, rajar etc etc) and unless I'm 99.9% sure I won't be able to watch Smackdown! at the weekend I won't read the spoilers. As said before I'm dissapointed its at Jericho's expense but it still was a shocking moment. The time it took for the match to start though I thought Edge was going to recover and attack Swagger so he could call it off. Not sure about them turning Swagger serious though I'm not sure what the need is. I felt like there was a serious overload of seriousness on SD! this week.

Swagger is goofy. That's not a criticism, just an observation. Goofiness is his most distinct attribute, in spite of being both large and a remarkably good wrestler. Seeing Swagger try to act like a serious, monotone, Jericho-lite type of heel just made him seem even goofier.
All that taken together, having his grand MitB win at 'Mania consist of five minutes of fumbling around not being able to unhook the case felt remarkably in character.
I don't really feel positive or negative about this yet (which probably isn't a good sign, if I'm not reacting at all, but then, I think I'm going into HBK-withdrawal), but I just hope the bookers remember to keep Swagger intentionally goofy. If they try to play him straight as a legitimately threatening heel, he'll just be unintentionally goofy, and that'll kill him.

As much as it pains me to say it, I reckon at Extreme Rules, Swagger will drop the title to Edge. Don't think Jericho will win it, because he's taking time off, isn't he? Sorry to put a dampener on the happy mood, but that's my take on it. Also, where has his awesome grin gone? They better let him bring it back, or I'll be a bit annoyed. I don't like SRS Swagger... SRS heels seem all too common these days. For now: ALL HAIL YOUR NEW ALL AMERICAN AMERICAN WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION JACK THWAGGAH!

I can't take a man with a lisp serious as world champion. He'll keep it 1 month, 2 tops, what a waste of MITB. Christian got screwed.

God dammit. Don't make him serious, WWE. Have him play the comedic Kurt Angle of 5/6 years ago with an athletic edge in the ring.

see, i love jack swagger, but i dunno how i'll react to this as it develops. if he doesn't get a decent reaction (whch may be the case due to how much he's been losing lately) then this may get downplayed or just canned, which would suck. they also seem to be making him more serious, which just flat out doesn't work for swagger. his lisp, gangly appearance and nickname suited his goofy heel persona perfectly, but if he tries to be serious like this then he'll be laughed at. he was great in his awkward, over the top jock persona, but if WWE think that the serious heel turn they did with jericho will work for everyone, i disagree.
but i'm optimistic. he'll still put on good matches, and still will hopefully keep some of the mannerisms that make him a memorable character at least. plus he's working with jericho and edge, who'll find a way to make this work.

Meh. This just further shows that WWE belts mean nothing anymore. A guy who has been losing like crazy on Raw now becomes the heavyweight champion. Whoop De Doo!! How come there are never any young stars who I genuinely enjoy, and who have been seemingly shafted for a main event title run never can, but the "Paul Romas" and "Stan Stasiaks" seem to always get the title? First Sheamus, now this goof? And my problem with this isn't mainly Swagger and his ability, but just how he had been made to look by WWE before, and now I'm supposed to take him seriously a s a world champion, who can carry the company on his shoulders??? Get F***in real. No, you're not. You're supposed to believe that a dude the size of Swagger could lay out Edge with a briefcase and then pin an injured Jericho who'd already been beaten down. That doesn't seem like a massive stretch to me. It's a tv show, you don't have to analyse everything so much.
