Did I ever mention how much of a f***ing waste of space Manny Delcarmen is this week? Or that I hate him and can't understand why he's been on the team for this long? Oh, hey, Bill Hall and Marco Scutaro: run prevention. Papelbon, who whined like a little girl about his contract before the season can also screw himself

^The Cubs have scored 48 runs in Ted Lilly's 17 starts, for a 2.79 runs/game average. Now, those are game totals, as opposed to run support for Ted himself. Ted has received the following run support in his 2010 start, defining "run support" in the confines of runs scored that could go toward his own decision: 2-1-2-2-3-1-0-2-2-1-0-2-3-3-2-3-1 He'd fit right in with the Mets. And since you mentioned Captain Kirk above: here are his minor league numbers: .297/.344/.528 with 15 homers & 30 doubles in AA. He's a few years away, so he'll have time to improve on his K/BB ratio. I believe he was out for a while with an injury, but he's back now. Edit: I found the minor-league equivalents calculator & for those interested, here's the link to it.

Sigh, scoring runs is not in the Mets MO as they get shut-out by the Dodgers tonight 2-0. They've scored one run in the past 23 innings & none in the last 17. The man who's started the last 3 Met wins, Johan Santana, faces Vicente Padilla tomorrow night. David Wright went 1-3 with a walk but had 2 strikeouts. He's had a weak month(.703 OPS) & probably needs a day off, but with the 3-catcher rotation, that seems unlikely. Also of note, Jeff Francoeur got 2 hits & apparently wants to be traded if he can't start. I can't say I blame him. Hisanori Takahashi started & was impressive. Line: 7 IP, 2 runs, 3 hits(1 HR), 2 BB, 5 Ks, 12 swinging strikes, 4:11 GB:FB on 105 pitches(67-38). The only trouble for him tonight was Matt Kemp, who had both RBI. Other than that, Tak handled himself well & will probably start again unless the Mets make a move for a starter. Unrelated, but related in a way, the Phillies fired their hitting coach today. This is related because since the guillotine is always present over the Mets, hitting coach Howard Johnson might be on the firing line. Despite this recent stretch of bad hitting, the Mets have been pretty mediocre all season on offense. It seems as if the approach for the Met bats this season was to "swing away, swing away, & swing away" & the numbers sorta bear that out. Offensively on the season, the Mets rank: 26th in BB(7.8)%, 25th in OBP(.318), 22nd in OPS(.718) & 28th in O-Swing%(swinging at pitches outside the strike zone)(31.7%). It's probably not entirely Hojo's fault for the offense's struggles, but if someone does happen to be future endeavored, Hojo might be the one. And lastly, it seems as if Carlos Beltran is getting blamed in some circles for the Mets recent struggles as he's "disrupted clubhouse chemistry." Lost in that line of thinking is that the Mets went 4-8 the 12 games prior to Carlos returning.

If this losing streak means they're significant changes coming down the pipe, then so be it. Also, Padilla will bean either Wright or Santana tonight, just because.

theres talk of Lilly going to Detroit...they dont want Theriot though.
also the Astros are pretty much asking for about 5 - 6 guys in return for Oswalt because they really dont like anything the cards farm system has to offer.
and with Lou retiring at the end of the year, i have the say my favorite Pinella moment was last season when he made Larussa do a double take and go "how the f*** is that allowed!!!??!!" when he had Sean Marshall pitch, then when he struck out the batter, Lou moved him to Left Field...and then had Aaron Heilman come in to pitch, Aaron takes care of that batter and Lou moves Marshall back to pitching. and the whole time Lou is just looking at Larussa with a huge smile on his face. which i recall Tony saying something around the lines of "yea, Lou out managed me today, putting marshall in left field for one batter i found out was actually allowed in the rule books..lou makes you learn something new everyday"

2) Backup at both corner infield positions (Fernando Tatis, 1997-2010) I hear Jhonny Peralta is available.

www.thegoodphight.com/2010/7/23/1583505/goodbye-moyerJamie Moyer's career might be over after suffering a sprained Ulnar Collateral ligament and a strained flexor pronator tendon in his left elbow. Usually this injury results in Tommy Johns surgery. Kind of a sad end for what turned into quite an amazing career. But I'm 99% sure he'll end up as a coach somewhere after he retires.

Moyer said today that he'll be back, that this wouldn't end his career. He may never pitch as a Phillie again, but I won't count that old crafty bastard out. Hell, if he has TJ surgery he may come back throwing 95 mph!

Oh look! In a bit of poetic justice (since it's believed Tracy's whining about binoculars is what started this slump) the Phillies are currently winning 5-0 against the Rockies after that dismal road trip.
Over/under on Tracy whining about us cheating again: 5.5

Nice to see the Cubs stick it to someone today and actually be able to hit for once when a starter pitches well.
