Rangers down the Angels again, 1-0. Our lead in the West is now at 7 games!
CJ Wilson is learning quickly from Cliff Lee, ZERO walks in 8 shutout innings! Wilson usually walks several a game despite pitching well.
Michael Young's 1st inning solo HR was all he needed.

*le sigh*
The Red Sox are so godawful with bases loaded (and with runners on base in general).

For the sake of one-ups-manship, Tyler Colvin's HR leading off today's game, his 14th (to lead ALL rookies, national press and sabermetric community), was all Randy Wells needed. Rookie Starlin Castro also picked up a pair of hits for himself, raising his batting average to an even .300 on the year. Soto also picked up his 14th HR, while Fonsy contributed his 18th. And we can now finally forget about that awful day when Pujols had 3 homers and Wells failed to record an out before being lifted. Edit: the Cubs are now .500 against all MLB teams except for the Astros and Pirates. *Sigh*

The Mets have finally decided to give Santana proper run support with a 6-1 lead. I still have no faith in the bullpen so it'll be a miracle if the score remains that way in the end. Edit: K-Rod did his job for once by striking out 2 in 7 pitches and getting the groundballl as the final out!

Kelly Johnson of the Diamondbacks just hit for the cycle against the Giants. First cycle by a DBack since Stephen Drew did it back in '08. Too bad Arizona is down 6-4 in the 8th.

The Mets break out of their malaise with a 6-1 win over the Dodgers. Mike Pelfrey & Carlos Monasterios pitch tomorrow afternoon. Jason Bay had a real nice all-around game tonight. He went 2-4 including a key 3-run double that broke the game wide open. He also made a great catch in left as his face banged into the left-field fence. The outfield defense was sharp for the Mets tonight as Angel Pagan & Carlos Beltran also made some sharp plays in the field. Also of note, David went 0-4 with 3 strikeouts. This is interesting because he was standing so far from the plate & as a result he couldn't reach the outside pitch at all. Hopefully, he can straighten that out. Johan Santana started, & pitched well once again. Line: 7 IP, 5 hits, 1 run, 1 BB, 4 Ks, 7 swinging strikes, 6-11 GB:FB on 98 pitches(74-24). The Mets have won his last four starts. Speaking of Johan, here's an article by the excellent Ted Berg about him. Bobby Parnell & K-Rod(he'll pitch in a 5-run game, but not a tied extra inning game) closed it out in easy fashion.

I love how everyone brings up how "rare" those are, yet it seems to happen like every two months. Not to mention...is it really that great? I'd say that Aramis Ramirez's 3 Homer 7 RBI game the other day is WAY more impressive.

Considering all the games that are played over the course of a season, there is a rarity about it.

Nobody has hit the cycle and been hit by a pitcher since 1940 if the stat on ESPN was right. Also...Mets win? Run support for Santana? Bay can hit and field? Krod gets a clean save? (Head explodes)

It looks like the Yankees are about to get Dan Haren. I hope it goes as well as the Cliff Lee trade did for the Yanks!

Seems like the Haren talks have hit a snag. Arizona wants the Yanks to take Qualls and Snyder along with Haren. Yanks are also reluctant to deal Joba...for unknown reasons.

Yankees probably think Joba is worth more than they realize. Oh well, their loss. Also, John Maine had surgery on his shoulder so he's done for the year to the shock of nobody.

THE INDIANS WILL NEVER LOSE AGAIN (to the Rays in Cleveland)
Last night the Rays lost their 18th straight game at Projacobsive Field. A remarkable stat considering the Indians can't hit or pitch and the Rays can hit and pitch.

Theriot...it was cute when you were just making league min...but seriously, your nothing more then a sub player...and seriously why is Nady still on the team??? i highly doubt hes going to put up sammy sosa type of numbers like some people said he would at the beginning of the year when he was being played over Colvin...btw, Colvin and Castro make a pretty damn good 1 & 2 at the top of the order.

FOX have the graphics 16:9 safe this time, so the scorebox is right up in the corners. That's new for them.

Howard with a bases clearing TRIPLE (yes, triple) off Jimenez to put the Phils up 3-0...Followed immediately with a wild pitch to score Howard as well. Of course since it's Kendrick pitching, I'm not feeling safe until we're up at least 12-0.
