Unconfirmed Rumors abound on Big Ten expansion(Source: twitter.com/NCAAsports: 1) WFNI in Indianapolis reported that Notre Dame, Syracuse, Rutgers, and Maryland are also joining the Big Ten. So does this mean that Notre Dame, Syracuse, Rutgers and Maryland are all going to start playing a terribly boring style of football now that they've joined the Big Ten? Isn't it part of the indoctrination of joining the Big Ten, that you have to promise that you won't throw the ball more than 10 times a game?

Where is Iowa State going in this? I know its a really really really longshot but if the Big Ten wants to match the Pac 10 they can always make Iowa and all Big 10 state. Iowa State is screwed. The Big Ten will not take them. The whole premise of the Big Ten's expansion plans were predicated solely on adding new markets to the Big Ten Network. That's why you keep hearing Rutgers' name mentioned. Certainly not a program affiliated with a rich tradition, but they certainly have a large population that you'd assume would lead to the Big 10 Network being put on the basic or premium cable package in the state of New Jersey. A lot more revenue is brought in as a result and the universities get richer. My most vested interests in all this, regardless of the SEC movements, is watching what becomes of Kansas and Louisville. Two schools rich in basketball history, recent and past, but no real football to speak of. By all accounts, neither are exactly wanted by any of the major conferences that would be formed. Could Louisville end up sulking back to C-USA, and Kansas end up forming an epic rivalry with ... Air Force? Yikes. Kansas is on an island out there. When you look at expansion Kansas is certainly stretching the geography in every possible scenario (PAC-10, Big 10, SEC). While it doesn't really bother the football programs, it could wreak havoc on the non-profitable college sports (which is pretty much everything else but men's basketball). The possibility that KU winds up in the Mountain West is very real at this point. But in fairness to the MWC, they did net 4 NCAA tournament births this past March (New Mexico, BYU, San Diego St. and UNLV). So it's not like Kansas is going to the Horizon League or anything. I have to think Louisville lands in the ACC if the dominoes fall the way I think they're going to.

Well at least if Iowa State goes to the MWC or Conference USA they can become a big fish in a little pond than the tadpole in a huge ocean that is the Big 12.

If I'm Iowa State, I would gladly be the tadpole because the money they make being in a BCS conference, they're a much wealthier tadpole.

Yeah but with the chances of the 12 folding, I don't know if Iowa State will even be able to get in a BCS conference.

They're not. That's why I said they're screwed. They're gonna have to settle for C-USA or possibly the MAC.

USC, you better hope this really is Lane Kiffen's dream job because that guy has an ego that I dont know can wait 3 years for a bowl bid.

The Coach ESPN is talking about is RB coach / special teams coach Todd McNair, who received a one-year recruiting ban as part of the sanctions.
And the Upper classmen (juniors, seniors, RS sophomores) will be eligible to transfer Without sitting out a year. It'll be interesting to see how many of these guys head for the hills.

Cause their games with Texas and Oklahoma State have a set time each year. Texas & OU play around the Texas State Fair each year, and OU/OSU has been the end of the season for the better part of a decade. That would mean moving two non-conference games to later in the year than usual, and one or two SEC teams will have to agree to start conference play at least a week earlier.

Didn't the Big 10 have a bylaw that would make Texas teams going there impossible? They'd need to be adjacent to another Big 10 state. Yeah, those bylaws can be changed, but still, we'd have heard if they did that before Texas and A&M would announce they were moving there.

I knew Texas and Texas A&M meet today but I highly doubt they agreed to join the Big 10.

Oh, I know they would still play, but potentially no longer when they use to play, which was, as I said, around the Texas State Fair in the fall.

For those who doubt the drawing power of Notre Dame consider these few items: Would a major network (NBC) keep them on for tradition only? NBC has canceled many legendary TV shows and specials after ratings or interest wained. Interest and ratings for ND football have done niether...ever Wow, is THAT some revisionist history. Notre Dame's ratings were doing less than HALF of what CBS and ABC's college games were doing for the last couple of years. Dick Ebersol's decision to reup the deal was widely panned in industry circles. ncaafootball.fanhouse.com/2009/06/15/as-notre-dames-tv-money-dwindles-so-too-should-its-independenc/

One thing I'm not clear on- Do they vacate the Championship they won during that time? Seems like they would, but I don't see many people talking about it.
